This is something I've kind of always wondered. Does the goal light automatically light up when the puck goes in the net? If not, what technically makes it light up?

All I can find about the goal light on Google is sites that sell goal lights.

I'd prefer a link to a page that explains it, if anyone knows of one.

There are guys who sit behind a button who have a relatively clear view of the net, and when they see the puck cross the line, they press the button. Several years back, the goal light guys used to be in booths right behind the net, but they moved them elsewhere to put in more spectator seats.
