nosyt612 103 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Curious to see Almquist, kinda wish it was Ouellet tho. He played great that first game and if given an extended period of time i think he could steal lashoffs spot.

BottleOfSmoke 5,965 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 I am ashamed at my reaction to this. I don't ever want to see anyone, especially one of our guys, hurt. But...Smith needs to get his head right. I'm excited to see what Almquist can do.

dropkickshanahans 463 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) It sucks that Smith is out (his struggles aside), but I'm very excited to see AA finally get a shot to play. I remember back when he was leading scorer for all F/D as a defenseman in J20. Hopefully he gets used on the PP as well, see how well his QB vision really is. dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 I would have rather seen ouellet up over almquist... ouellet has a better defensive game. 1 MCleveland89 reacted to this

Dabura 12,205 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 I'm hoping Almqvist magically becomes that elite Rafalski-esqe puck-moving defenseman we so badly need. And that he becomes that guy in the span of one game. 3 jthiel86, Wingsfan72 and matthewdanna reacted to this
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Did Smith get hurt in the fight at the end? Unfortunate and unnecessary for him if so. BUT. I've been calling for Almqvist to get a shot and I'm glad he gets his opportunity. Can he be worse defensively than Smith? Doubtful. Can he move the puck better than Smith? Probable. Hope he does well and gets some PP time. I know nothing of almquists game, can someone gimme the cliffnotes? Good puck-moving d-man, his size and defensive play are the most common negatives mentioned.
brett 1,029 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 i read his collarbone/shoulder injury from the fight oh well. is anyone upset about this? i think he may have lost his spot this time
LAWings 160 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Did Smith get hurt in the fight at the end? Unfortunate and unnecessary for him if so. I think so, went back and watched the fight, he landed really hard on his left shoulder with Acton landing on top of him. After he got up he reached for his shoulder with his right hand. That sucks, I never wish injury on anyone unless their names contain Claude Lemieux or Matt Cooke. 4 MidMichSteve, Hockeymom1960, Nev and 1 other reacted to this

Even with the wings struggling defensively, i feel like they really miss an offensive minded D. Hopefully Almqvist can provide some quickness to the breakout. BottleOfSmoke 5,965 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 @AnsarKhanMLive: Wings defenseman Brendan Smith out 1-2 weeks w/ slightly separated shoulder from fight last night, Ken Holland said. Adam Almquist recalled.
Dabura 12,205 Report post Posted November 3, 2013 Not ashamed to say don't know much about him, anybody got a scouting report on Almqvist? What type of player is he. Pucking-moving offensive defenseman with a good first pass. Smallish but very smart and efficient. Has the tools to be a monstrous PP quarterback. Basically, Rafalski Jr. I believe he's going to be huge for us in the future. Big fan of his.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) I know nothing of almquists game, can someone gimme the cliffnotes? Excellent puck-moving skills, great shot, superlative hockey IQ, mediocre defensive acumen, below-average height and weight.
