Usually, a goalie's job is to block shots.

He makes great saves until we are winning. He can never hold a lead it seems. Regardless of what the defense do, the goalie is the last line of defense. If the team gives him a 2 goal lead, he should be able to make a couple key saves to keep it. I didn't watch tonight's game but I have noticed this all season. If we have a lead and Jimmy is in, we almost always lose it.

This. I believe this is the 4th time this season that we have given up a 2 goal lead. That is unaccptable considering we have only played less than 20 games. That ultimately falls on the goalie when it happens 4 times in said amount of games. Also, some blame needs to go to the coaches and players for not fixing the issue, but the bulk of it is on Jimmy when you have a 2-0 lead, you really should win the game,.

Not too upset with this loss as it felt more flukey than the complete disasters we had during our last losing streak. Howard didn't have a great game, we had zero PPs, and we made a few too many individual mistakes.

Fingers crossed we'll break the "win X, lose X" cycle next game.

Some reporter needs to ask Babs why the heeeeeeeeeeell Cleary keeps getting 16mins a night on the second line??? he doesn't contribute with ANYTHING!

I was ragging on Cleary pretty bad last year but he had a great playoff. Unless we tank the season no reason not to think we won't make it back to the post-season and then hopefully he picks it up again.

I agree, with the way the system is set up with both teams getting points in OT a loss like this is not a huge deal. But still stings for awhile.

It is so frustrating to have a mediocre team.

Does anyone know how we're doing compared to last year at this stage.  Just wondering if we'll have to win the last 8 games of the season to make it into the playoffs again.

Should be easier to make playoffs since the division isn't as tough.

I am sooooo upset at that Abby penalty at the end... and I think it is all his fault.  I saw him making a move toward net and I was screaming NOOOOOOOOOO!! because I knew he was going to go into the goalie.

We played too well to lose this game.

DAMMIT!!!

Not to burst your bubble, but Cleary is no longer an effective player. He's too slow, too weak on his skates, can't keep up with the play and can't win a battle to save his life. At some point the team needs to move on and put the best team out there to compete and have a chance to win on a nightly basis.

This is something that Holland and Babcock need to realize and change before it becomes a problem. If it means sending the dead weight to Grand Rapids so be it because I want a team that is going to have the best chance to win every night and not a team whose playing veterans because they contributed something 5 years ago and there trying to sugarcoat it so that they don't embarrass them because a young player has clearly moved ahead of them.

There's no bubble to burst, no denying Clearly is bad but he's not going anywhere and I'm choosing to think positively and hope he can be good come playoff time like last year.

So we're going to carry a completely worthless player around for 82 rounds just in the hopes that he magically becomes ten times better in the playoffs? I'm not sure if this is a great strategy...

Terrible strategy but it's the one we are stuck with.

I don't have numbers but I think we're doing a bit better, combined with an easier conference we shouldn't have to fight for a playoff spot.

And yeah we're mediocre, but we WILL be better with Ericsson back and Nyquist inserted in the top 9. That 1st line is superb and the 3rd is solid, if we find a 2nd we're looking good. Defense is a big issue though, starting to look like Quincey should not be in the lineup when everyone's healthy.

Well we definitely don't need him playing 16mins a night on the second line. Stick him on the fourth line if he has to play at all.

He should play on the fourth line. But Sammy is the one who is really hurting the team, he might not be playing on the second line like Clearly but his contract is stopping Nyquist from playing there.

Well at least Franzén scores once in a while, Cleary is completely useless.

Well expect more of the same boys.  With this roster situation and cap problems I don't see any help on the horizon anytime soon.  On the plus side, I just watched Babs' presser and according to him it's the teams' fault and they just need to "play better".  Because clearly the problem is that 23 guys just forgot how to play hockey, which means that at any time they could just remember again.

You have to wonder when the coach is going to take his share of the blame... If 23 guys "forget" how to play hockey, then you're doing a piss poor job as coach reminding them that they can indeed play.

Lastly, the officiating this year is awful. How do the Wings not get a single powerplay again during a game?! The Red Wings are lucky to get more than 1 powerplay this season, despite the fact that Pavs and Hank are continuously hooked and held. This has to change... Babcock needs to let this be known that it is unacceptable.

For one, we just took our agitator that brings grit to the game night after night, that gets under the skin of opposing players drawing penalties and placed him on waivers...

We're better than this and have entirely too much talent to have (multiple) games of this nature.

Alfie for instance, he gave up his legacy in Ottawa to come here and win and we put him on a line with Dan Freaking Cleary :/

Quincey needs to go back to Colorado, let's see how much success the Avalanche have with him on the blue line.

Nyquist? Don't even get me started...

Go Wings.

J honestly hope Cleary doesn't have any kind of performance boost in the playoffs. If he doesn't play well at all, chances are he doesn't get re signed, but who knows with Holland sometimes

The difference is Sammy was signed in 2012 when there was ample roster and cap space.  Cleary was signed when we were already over the cap, over the roster limit and knowing his skills were seriously diminished.

The thing that probably bugs me the most about this loss is that two points would have placed us in a three-way tie for first in the conference. But, as it stands, we're in third place (second in our division), which is nothing to be upset about (though there is the whole games-in-hand issue, but even then....)

I think we'll be fine. We haven't come anywhere close to finding our groove, yet we're in third in the conference. And that's with the Bolts (right ahead of us) and Leafs (right behind us) playing out of their minds. The big thing is we can't outright lose games - we need to get at least a point. The Pens are the only team in the league that can feel genuinely comfortable and afford to drop a bunch of games.

I turned this game on just as Abs took the penalty in the third.

I wish I hadn't even bothered because everything I saw from that point on was complete garbage play by the Wings.

Time to read the GDT and see what other crap I missed.

Imma let you finish, and your cap numbers are all good and all that, but imma let Kenny figure it out. Kenny's cap numbers were the best cap numbers this year.
