Babcock performance thread

Babs performance: D

This team could finish bottom in the division and Babs would still say the same one-liners.

We need a new coach or an offensive specialist or something. This team has talented forwards but no system that clicks. Also, Babs randomly changing lines with no rhyme or reason for years seems to impact the players chemistry...

We have Tom Renney who is a fantastic coach. I have been saying this for a year now, that Babcock needs to go. His message is lost, and his line combinations are just ridiculous. Looking today at the practice news to see that he has put Dan Cleary on the top line with Pavel is just a slap in the face to all of the other Red Wings players that have played far better then Cleary. Cleary does not even deserve a spot on this team, let alone the top line. Ken Holland didn't want to re-sign Cleary- - Babcock wanted it and look at how its working for you Babs.

Kenny needs to send a message that this amount of losing is unacceptable. Unfortunately, he will never fire Babcock this year because of the Olympics. But this is just absolutely ridiculous.

This has been repeated more and more here lately. Is there some source on this?

Babcock obviously likes Cleary as a player but I'm wondering if there was an article referring to Holland not wanting Cleary and Babcock did. Because it doesn't ring true.

If Holland didn't want to re-sign Cleary, why would he have offered him a 3 year deal in June? Babcock doesn't have that kind of influence over Kenny that he'd offer a 3 year deal to a player he didn't want to re-sign.

“We think we’re a better team with Clears,'' Holland said. “He’s a versatile on the wing, he’s good in the locker room. In the end, he flew up (Wednesday) to meet with (coach Mike Babcock) and I at the airport and his message was he wanted to be a Red Wing and he wanted to work with us.

He added, “Over the last 72 hours as this thing as heated up and Dan Cleary wanted to make a decision … we all felt we’re a better team with Dan Cleary and we’ll sort this out.''

"We would have loved to have signed him back," Holland said Tuesday. "We tried to sign him prior to July 5 (and the start of free agency). We made him an offer and that moved a little bit but ultimately it wasn't anywhere near where he wanted it to be.

And thanks to Dan Cleary making our team better Tootoo and Eaves lost their jobs and Nyquist sat in GR. How can Holland justify that.

In the strongest version of this team, Tootoo and Eaves should be off the roster but I agree Nyquist has been serious collateral damage. He's the victim of his contract status and Holland.
