11/23 GDT: Game 24 - Senators 4 @ Red Wings 2

Like I said, he's not making the big saves, but I could care less if he has a .750 sv% as long as he's giving his team a chance to win games.

I think the problem lies in how great he finished out last season and started out this season. He's in a slump, no one can deny that, but everyone wants his head now because he's not playing up to his potential. I guess we wouldn't be Wings fans if we weren't bi-polar. It's frustrating to know we have a goalie who has the ability to steal games and isn't doing it.

I don't care about the stats, they are just that and people who aren't following the games can look at them and act like stats are telling the whole story, which they obviously aren't.

That said with Danny K - the brightest spot - out goaltending needs to be better, no way around that.

Honestly, as goaltending goes, the number one indicator of performance to me is this: when the puck is shot or there is a scrum around our crease, do I find myself expecting a save or a goal?

Howard this season reminds me of Hasek late in 2008. He is number one by default, but I fear almost every shot on goal. When a puck gets by him, he is getting visibly distracted by it, and his performance just continues to slide. We can argue about whether one goal or the next is his "fault", but the fact remains that he isn't out playing the opposition goaltender.

It's not the stats themselves, it's what they're indicative of. They say that Jimmy isn't where he needs to be, which is indeed the reality. He needs to be better.

Yes, I'm with you on this.

I couldn't tell you,

I was just going off what I seen on fsd.

The nice thing is that you can watch the goal highlights on NHL.com.

If you do, you'll see that Cleary wasn't even on the ice when Dats got his first -1 (it wasn't Datsyuk's fault either. It was mostly on Tatar).

Whadda you know? Cleary also wasn't on the ice for Dats' -2, when Sekera walked through a sea of Red Wings players.

And how bout that, Cleary wasn't on the ice for the 3rd goal, Dat's -3, when Sekera scored again shorthanded (also Tatar's fault).

So I guess Cleary was doing something from the bench that caused them to score? Because it couldn't be that the bashing here has gotten so bad that people blame him for things when he's not even on the ice.

While the bashing has gotten out of hand, and I'm probably part of that, the discontent is based in reality, or at least something close to it. The guy's not producing, period, and, beyond MAYBE the PK (and that "veteran leadership" business), he's not contributing anything of real value. He literally looks like a beer leaguer, and, whether it's reprehensible or not, you know that's not going to earn him a lot of praise here. (And, in fact, it's not just this community that rides him hard. My impression is that Wings fans generally are...not enamored of Dan Cleary right now.)
