What I'm thankful for...

I know this has been mentioned and is pretty much a no-brainer, but I really am thankful we got out of the West and just in time. I think there's a very good chance we would've missed the playoffs by quite a few points, so we dodged a huge, huge bullet there.

I doubt it, I think we would actually be playing better if we were still in the west. We know the west, we know teams weaknesses and strengths and what they bring every night, the east is still new to us. Not saying we'd be riding the top of the conference but definitely less ot losses, and more points.

I've thought about this. (And there's even the possibiliity that our exit has a lot to do with the West improving, though that's a stretch, I think.) But I'm not sure I'm buying it. If you look at the way we've been playing, the mistakes we've been making, the main weaknesses teams have been exploiting...I think we lose like we've been losing whether we're in the East or West. I think it's more fundamental issues - of which the better West would probably be less forgiving - than it is a lack of familiarity with Eastern teams, especially when you consider we've only played three more Eastern teams than Western teams (if my math is correct), these being our conferences records (again, if I counted right):

EAST: 7-3-4

WEST: 4-4-3

The West has "always" been better, but this year it's asburd. And it comes on the heels of a (half-)season in which we played only Western teams and finished in seventh in the West. If we play that same schedule for half of this season...I don't see a happy ending.

Three things..

1) That I have a husband who lets me indulge in my love for the boys and lets me go to Traverse City every year for camp. Were it not for him, I would not have met some of you, or met a lot of the guys. One in particular...

2) That if Patrick Eaves can't play here, at least I get to see him play in GR, where he is fitting in quite well, and even scored the game winning goal the other night. And after the game, we get to hang out at the same eatery they do and I get to talk to him. He's really nice!

3) More than anything else, I'm thankful for one person. Pasha.

I am thankful that Darren Helm was able to make his return to the NHL! After such a long absence, no one knew what to expect when he finally came back. His speed was a big question mark, as well as his mental health, but both seem to be near 100% again! Just so thankful to have this kid back. He is already making a huge impact!

I'm thankful for Helm's return and that his back problems didn't damage his career permanently.

To me, that is is the biggest surprise of the year. Not only that, but he came back with hands!

i'm thankful to have been a wings fan since as long as my memory began developing.

i'll be VERY thankful to see pasha back in the lineup tomorrow!!

I'm thankful for the fact that our fanbase is spread all around the country. I've been able to meet other red wings fans living in California, lllinois and now at Ohio State.

That reminds me, I'm also thankful that we can all get together and cheer for the wings, even if we're rivals in other sports

Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Mostly Datsyuk. He's IMO the best and most exciting player to watch in my quarter of a century year old history. (I was at the Feds 5 goal game, playoff games, skated with feds, watched Yze, all the HOF'ers) I judge this by his mindfulness, humbleness, witty rusglish (russian english) and his ability to continue to do things that make everyone question themselves as humans. Even at his old hockey age he's still the best player in the league and on face book he's really good at catching over sized fish!. When he's retired I'll never watch hockey again.

EDIT: I'm also thankful for Dan Cleary. Constantly reminding me that I'm still very young, and very able.
