Oh ya, duh, forgot about Tomas Steen!

Anyway RedWang, I stopped and thought about those lines...I can't even fathom this team having Franzen on it come October 2014, so the only thing I need to go change is my shirt after puking. Franzen NEEDS to be bought out...period.  He makes the most sense... (or traded.)

Perhaps put him in a blockbuster trade?

Does the buyout have to be used by a certain time or can we save it for a few more years? Can you use it anytime during the offseason?

Next year is the last time to use it.

I dont understand why we wouldn't want franzen on this team next year. Is he inconsistent, yes. Can you replace his production with someone who has a cap hit less than he does, NO. Not all players are superstars like Pav and Z where they put up points night in and night out. Franzen is what he is and at the end of the year he scores over 25 goals for a great cap hit. I have zero qualms with playing Franzen on the third line when he slacks, especially with a speedy helm healthy, but buying him out or trading him doesn't make sense when he is a great bang for the buck. This is in no way me saying that this team doesn't need a legit power forward, because they absolutely are lacking one.

Red Wings will build from within until big TV deal boosts cap in 2015-16 [Krupa]

“Grand Rapids won the American league championship last year,” Holland said. “Five of those guys are on this team, basically, (Danny) DeKeyser, (Brian) Lashoff, Andersson, (Tomas) Tatar and Nyquist.”

He said he believes two more prospects playing for the Griffins are likely to make the Red Wings roster next season.

“As we go along, I’m hoping those young players become more important to our team, and we’re going to pay them more,” Holland said.

“That’s a good thing. That’s got to happen.”

OK, if I am trading Franzen instead of using the buyout, I still maintain that there may be only ONE team that would be interested in his services. The Vancouver Canucks.  Especially if Franzen goes to Sochi and just lights it up with the Sedins.  Not saying that he will for sure be playing with them, but I am sure he will see some time on their line and when he does, he will show how compatible he is with them.  I think, and believe that he would be lights out with them.  On the Red Wings, Franzen score 25 goals, with the Sedins he tops 40.  I know I have pined for Alex Burrows time and time again, but it seems he has lacked production recently and as I looked over their roster, I noticed that they have David Booth.  Booth used to play with Weiss in Florida and could possibly reignite a bit of chemistry if they were reunited. His cap hit is under $4.25M so it isn't too much more than Franzen's and the chemistry potential with Weiss is more than worth the increase.  Franzen's contract length is more than worth it to Vancouver for the possible chemistry between the Swede's out there.

Sedin - Sedin - Franzen looks like a lethal line for Vancouver...

Nyquist - Weiss - Booth looks like a great 2nd line unit for Detroit...it's a win-win for both teams.

so, now on to next years roster I would like to see. (entertainment purposes only)

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Steen

Nyquist - Weiss - Booth

Tatar - Helm - Abdelkader

Sheahan - Andersson - Miller

Ferraro/Glendening

Kronwall - Ericsson

DeKeyser - Smith

Kindl - Lashoff

Ouellet

Howard

Mrazek

I let ALL UFA's walk, including Alfredsson, which will be the tough one, but if this is not his swan song and continues his scoring pace, he will price himself out of Detroit...unfortunately. Also Monster will be hard to let go too, if he decides to make similar salary next season, maybe another go at backing up Jimmy...that wouldn't bother me at all.

I love Tootoo, but it really seems Detroit is done with him, as well as Eaves.

Here is my capgeek roster with salaries and nice raises for our RFA's:

http://www.capgeek.c...-gm/roster/1232

the buyout is still available and may actually not be needed...unless you want to use it on Tootoo instead of waiving him...

we want no part of booth. guy is overpaid and can't stay healthy. we don't need that dead weight for this season and next. franzen is much better than booth. Weiss and booth have been split for so long it won't make a difference towards chemistry - also chemistry means nothing when they are both playing in babs' system where they aren't just running and gunning like in FLA.

Unless we were to trade for Steens rights before the buyout period begins (and again, he'll probably re-up in St. Louis), then I don't see us buying out Franzen. I really wish that no matter what we would, but I don't see Holland doing that. Even with the cap recapture penalties, I think Kenny really believes Franzen has played well the last couple of years and can continue to play till he's 40 (which, cmon man, he can't)

i just hope we stay away from steen , hes having an amazing year but i cant see him ever reproducing this type of season again and hes gonna probably command 5-6 mill a yr after this season

i just hope we finally see the end of bottom guys like cleary samuelsson eaves bertuzzi here and see some future guys here its time to insert some kids who can play, unfortunetly were gonna have like 3-4 guys out of waiver options

thats why i hate it when we wait till it comes to that , rather insert 1 or 2 kids and blend them in gradually and not have to wait until were forced to bring up 4 rookies in one shot into the lineup, i hope to see ferraro and callahan before the end of the year to see if they got a future here or not

Interesting - anyone wanna guess who?  Mrazek as Jimmys backup?  Jurco who is our most NHL ready offensive guy?  Ferraro/Sheahan/Callahan who are all out of options?  Oullet who has already got time up here?

There's likely to be 1 or 2 forward spots up for grabs, and 1 spot on D.

"If I can be totally honest, it's not a lot of guys you get impressed by. Actually, it's no one else but him. From the bench, to see what move he makes -- you're like, 'I wish I could do that.' Sometimes you sit on the bench and just think, 'wow,' and you look over to the other bench and they sit there and shake their heads, too. He has great, great skills. I'm probably not going to play with another player who has the kind of skills he has." Mikael Samuelsson on Pavel Datsyuk

For our 4 prospects who won't be waiver exempt next year, I think it's already made clear by past call ups and the preseason that Sheahan and Almquist are in consideration for next year, but Ferraro and Callahan probably won't make the cut

I would be more inclined to believe it's Sheahan and Ferraro that will make the team.  I'm hoping for a trade though.  I'll be pissed if we expose half these guys to waivers.

I like Almquist and all but I just don't see how he fits into the lineup.  Especially with the much more well rounded D coming up behind him. (Sproul, Backman, Ouellet, Marchenko)

I'm really pulling for Callahan as well.  Hope he comes into training camp like a wrecking ball.

Vince Lombardi

When asked who won, Babcock said, “Well it doesn’t really matter as long as you don’t lose. It’s like going bear hunting, you take a slow guy with you in case the bear is hungry.”

almquist would be perfect on the 2nd ppl unit right now instead of that waste samuelsson ... the 4 you mentioned are still 2-3 yrs away so i think almquist could be here till then but ya i dont see how he can have a longterm future in detroit

I would have to believe Smith would be given an opportunity to fill that spot on the PP before Almquist.

I can see him as a 7/8 PP specialist, just never a regular.

Honestly sheahan and almquist are my guesses.

Leaving Sproul and oullete in gr for one extra year together. Then hopefully they both up the next year and we will then have 7 dman long term.
