CrimsonFlame 424 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) How long are we going to be an "end-of-the-line" team? Because I still see guys like Cleary and Samuelsson being brought in repeatedly. That philosophy is all well and good...when you don't have the talent to win now. We do have the talent to win now. Or better yet why do we keep bringing them back when we have too many younger guys over ripening in the minors that never see the light of day here? That Cleary fiasco enraged me exactly because of this. Holland was finally showing that he was willing to part with guys that have spent too much time here and simply have nothing left in the tank, only for Cleary to come begging back hours later and Holland standing there with open arms. We have better, younger, and most importantly CHEAPER guys ready to go, and if they aren't they shouldn't be in GR anyway. That's what we need to do. It's like everything this organization does is stuck in the past and afraid to move forward into the future for some reason. DatsyukToZetterberg 128 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Is it mental frailty? Or maybe they just aren't that good. Considering the veterans we have on this team and the demeanor they try to portray I have a hard time believing that they get out of sync mentally or lose focus. I really think the team just isn't that good. We've been on the decline ever since losing in '09, but we have yet to really rebuild. It caught up to us a while ago, Holland for what ever reason just doesn't want to pull the trigger though. You don't own a 2-1 record against Boston and beat Colorado 4-2 in their own barn and be "just not that good". Keep in mind that none of DeKeyser, Zetterberg or Helm played tonight. This is not an organizational failure. Tonight had nothing to do with the makeup of the team. Tonight was about the guys on the ice not getting the job done and blowing another lead. Don't try and sell me on the notion that tonight was a result of a deep, irreversible organizational blunder. The guys on the ice just lost the game. It's that simple. 3 nawein, PavelValerievichDatsyuk and RedWang reacted to this
EastTennesseeWing 2 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Tough game. It's been a struggle without Hank and Pavel, but hopefully we hit our stride soon. The Pistons got their ass kicked also. Wasn't a good night for Detroit. I had been wanting to find a hockey forum because A) It's hard to find hockey fans in East Tennessee and B) I'm a fairly new fan. I know the rules of hockey, and I've gotten down some of the salary cap rules, but I know nothing of the fundamentals and what not of hockey. This seems like a good site to start at and I am excited to follow it. I grew up and still ive in East Tennessee and have followed my father in his love of Detroit sports. I also had a question for you guys. For Christmas/Birthday, my father and I are going to our first ever Detroit Red Wings game this Sunday against the Lightning. I was wondering if there is anything around or at Jou Louis to do. It can be Red Wing related or not but we are going to have all day Sunday before the game and just wanted to see if there was anything out there. Sorry to post this in the game thread, but I didn't know where exactly to put this. Thanks for the responses. 2 haroldsnepsts and puckloo39 reacted to this
RedWang 422 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Agree 100% with DtoZ. Were missing our Captain, our fastest player, and arguably our 2nd best defenseman. The team on the ice is not our actual team. Edited December 11, 2013 by RedWang
EastTennesseeWing 2 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 I noticed we struggle a good bit in shootout. Is that just a statistical oddity? Or has this been a significant problem for awhile?

There's a lot of good sports bars near the Joe. As far as inside the Joe, merchandising is about it. Wings stuff for sale all over the place, as you might expect. Mike J. 132 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Damn. These shootouts this year are a death trap. It's gotten to the point where I have to turn away as soon as they shoot against Jimmy. He's been god awful this year in shootouts. I'm glad we have Pasha back but sweet Jesus that is a game that should have been easily won

RedWang 422 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 I'm sorry but that's still not an excuse to lose two games in a row to one of the worst teams in the league. If thats not an excuse what is? But i certainly see your point. Believe me, i wanted this win badly and am just as bummed we lost 2 in a row to who else but the panthers. Jimmy couldve done better to steal us a win but, as the season has shown, tonight was par for the course.
DatsyukToZetterberg 128 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Thanks. I heard about Hockeytown Cafe and it sounded like a cool idea, but a little pricey. Willing to do that anyways most likely. You're very welcome. It may be spendy, but the atmosphere is terrific and the food is pretty good. It's the place you go if you really want that Red Wings gameday experience.I'm sorry but that's still not an excuse to lose two games in a row to one of the worst teams in the league.Losing is never OK, but it doesn't help not having those three guys. Yes, we are still more talented than the Panthers, but that margin is much less so because of those injuries. Had those three guys been playing tonight, the outcome probably would've been different. puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Best burger I've had in a long time, at Hockeytown Cafe. I figured it was just for the experience, but it was good! And since I don't get to go to Motown often, I thought it was worth it. ET Wing: I sent you a PM, check the little envelope in the upper right hand of your screen. GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Didnt see the game tonight. Not sure I want to read through the whole thread seeing that they lost. Did the team atleast look like they wanted to compete tonight or was it a repeat of Saturday night? How was Weiss received?

Hairy Lime 234 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 Would have been interesting to let Weiss shoot first. That's cruel... You KNOW he would have fallen on his face. Either that, or he would have forgotten who he played for and turned around and scored on Howard, because Howard is probably the only goalie he COULD score on right now. I know, unnecessary and cheap. I feel shame.
Sabaton617 28 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 I was at game last night. One bright spot was Smith. Like most, his play has frustrated me, and it wasn't anything he did during the game which impressed me. During warmups he tossed a couple of kids who were along the boards pucks and he looked as excited as the kids who got the pucks. Not sure if it something he does at home games. RedWang 422 Report post Posted December 11, 2013 In other news, "Pukestad's" roofer on jimmy last night is NHL Live's top play of the night. The fact that he beat Pasha to make it happen makes it even more of a great play. Grrr....

The fact that he beat Pasha to make it happen makes it even more of a great play. Grrr.... Rightly so. It was a great move out of the corner to the net. Datsyuk was caught totally flatfooted. How often do you see Wings players go to the net like that?

Howard injure himself last night? @AnsarKhanMLive: The Wings have recalled goalie Petr Mrazek from Grand Rapids. Checking, but it's probably because Howard was 'bumped' in practice today.
