FAO Mike Babcock: Work on shootouts during practice

For the love of anything holy, spend some time on this, 10 minutes a day perhaps? 9 points have been left on the table because of this.

I've heard Babs hates the shootout, and although I cannot independently verify this, I wonder if that is true if he doesn't spend any time working on it.

This is a massive gaping problem since last year. One that can be easily addressed by spending some time working on it during practice.

Do it.

Since we can't score anyway I'd like to see Babs try Smith, Lashoff and Emmerton. Simply because I think Smith has an actual shot at scoring and the other two attempts would be hilarious.

Hell put Kronwall in. He's scored before.

I was at a game in Houston last year where Smith actually scored a pretty nice goal in the shootout. Might not be too crazy of an idea.

Smith said that in the minors he was regularly used as one of the first 3 shooters. I was surprised to hear that, he said he would love an opportunity to do so with the Wings.

I'm starting to wonder what they actually do in practice. The team as a whole doesn't particularly shoot, pass, or skate all that well. Maybe they're too busy yuckin' it up for the cameras to practice shootouts.

Given the great shootout success I can fully understand, why Kenny wants it gone. Hard for me to remember the last time, the DetroitRedWings won in a shootout contenst.

most coaches probably don't spend time on shootouts in practice.. players may individually work on them at optional skates but I doubt there is any specific shootout practice time set aside on any team.

Do like my old basketball coach did for practicing free throws- line everyone up at the end of practice and you don't hit the showers until you've made 5.

Yeah I would try to go every time the Griffs were down here. I loved those games.

I sat on the glass for two of them, and the trainer gave me a Callahan stick at another one. Can't beat that =)

I saw on the 24/7 a few years ago that the Pens do something like this in practice.

You shoot till you make one, then the last guy to make one sucks, or something like that.

Kenny's been adamently against the shootout for years. It's only recently that we've been bad at it. Hey...Maybe the team is trying to prove his point.

It's baffling, and it's not that they need to start magically winning in regulation or OT every night. It's not like they're trying every trick in the book and they're simply cursed. They just don't try. That's the problem. Can't remember a shooter of ours who actually tried to beat the goalie.

I think its more alarming that we're even GOING to shootouts against teams like Florida. Spend time working on that.

Exactly, rather put an extra work with the D men on transition play.

I just want to know where Datsyuk has been on shootouts. I'm not surprised that some of the other guys are struggling to score or that Howard is horrible in shootouts. But Datsyuk not being able to score chance after chance? He doesn't even look like he tries to score in shootouts. What happened to those moves?
