Any comparisons drawn between Darren Helm, and Mario Lemiuex are absurd. Apples to oranges. Hey i like Helmer as a player and a part of the team, but hes not getting any younger an hes not gettig any less injury proned. He needs to s*** or get off the pot.

apologies, I edited it out due to the obvious.

No worries i fixed mine accordingly. I love a good spirited back n forth on such topics! Thats the fun of this site. Get to hear differing opinions of those who mostly all seem to know what theyre talking about. Cheers :)

Hey everyones entitled to their opinion, and trust me, i like Helmer as a player and a part of the team, but hes not getting any younger an hes not gettig any less injury proned. He needs to s*** or get off the pot. I just feel we couldve spent alot of lost time and money on a 3rd line C thats actually gonna be a part of this team in the future.

He's still young and he could easily put these injuries behind him and get back to playing regularly. Before his back issue he wasn't known as an injury-prone player.

Also his 2 million is NOT hurting us or keeping us from success if he's injured. How about looking at Samuelsson's 3 million, Weiss 5 million, Cleary, Bertuzzi, Quincey, Kindl's etc. X millions. Give the guy a break, his injuries aren't something he can control.

The alotted amount of "empathy" this grown man is getting, to not play the game the organization is paying him millions of dollars a year to play, has run out.

The detroit red wings are a business. And they, more than any other team in sports history are in the business of winning. Hes employed to produce, help the team win, and at the very least PLAY.

As far as I'm concerned he is a commodity, and a relatively useless one at that.

Wow, okay, you're definitely entitled to that outlook. To me that's a very cold view. To me, Fandom is all about supporting these athletes through good high points and low. Yes, I cheer for a team to win, but it's the human stories, struggles, and triumphs that actually make it worth watching. Also, I think one reason the wings are looked to as such a great franchise is because the organization is more than a business and treats players as more than merely commodities.

I probably went a tad overboard i'll admit, but my position on the matter, flawed delivery or not, still stands. I'd just like him to just start playing or make a decision because as of the last 2 years (a decent span of time in pro sports careers) he hasnt played more than a handful of games. And thia is just simply not good enough for the Wings. Its not just him. Every player gets called out if theyre playing poorly. Its part of the high standards we hold them to. But hes gotta atleast play.

Im just frustrated bcuz the teams struggling so mightily lately.

This is a damn good point though.

Yea I feel its a bit harsh to chastise him on only 2 years, especially because he's so young. More so because for the entire year he was out with a back injury that several doctors could not diagnose. I think that perhaps should qualify as an exception

I'm sorry to be rather forward about this, but any consideration to the thought that Helm should retire is a load of bs.

I've had a bad back since I was 14, and recurring kidney stone issues since 2008. Passing a kidney stone is arguably the most painful thing a person can endure (or so I've been told) (and my experiences confirm it), and it's taken a big chunk out of my life, in terms of not being able to do things I once could, and having a lower quality of life than I'd like. All the while, there's always someone in my life saying something to the effect of, "Suck it up, wimp. We all have problems, but you don't see anyone else peeing blood and crying about it, do you?" All of which is to say: I have all the empathy in the world for Darren Helm. Especially since various health issues forced me to quit hockey well before I was ready.

Accordingly, I worry about him. I wonder if maybe calling it quits wouldn't be the best thing for him, long-term. He's had about 9,000 injuries over the past couple of years, some of them freakish, some of them very serious, all of them pointing to one thing: he's becoming extraordinarily injury-prone, and/or "unlucky." He's still young, has - the last time I checked - a gorgeous girlfriend who's crazy about him. I know if someone else were saying this, I'd be all over them, so I'm not entirely sure why I'm even saying it. But maybe the possibility of "saving his health" is something he should at least keep in the back of his mind.

And, yeah, there is that "I'm a Wings fan first and a Helm fan second" angle. It does frustrate me that we're always short a third-line center, and that he happens to be one of the best third-line centers in the league when he's healthy, so it's a fairly big hole, even with Andersson and Glendening and Sheahan stepping up. I'm not turning on him. I could never do that, because what I said above about my own struggles is true. But, if his injury woes continue, it might be worth considering a trade - not just for the team's sake, but his own. (Maybe a change of scenery would help break the curse for him.) Sather is facing a somewhat similar situation with Callahan. When he's healthy, he's their heart and soul. But it's doubtful he'll be effective much longer, because of his size (or lack thereof) and the way he plays.

I'll probably be crucified for this post. "OMG UR SAYING WE SHOULD TRADE/BUY OUT DARREN HELM. UR NOT A TRUE WINGS FAN. SHAME ON YOU." I'm not saying anything should be done. It's just, being injured for two years can raise some questions. I don't mean exceedingly negative questions like "IS HE JUST FAKING IT?" or "WHY IS HE SO SOFT?" What I really want to see is Darren Helm shake this curse that's been placed on him (by Cory Emmerton, obviously) and kick ass on the ice. I think everyone can agree on that.

Sorry, kinda derailed the thread.

I'm a big believer in Jurco. And Sheahan is really impressing. The silver lining in all of these injuries is that these kids are taking the ball and running with it. You'd hope Cleary and Sammy and Bert are worrying about their jobs, but we know that's not the case. Still, good for the kids. They - Jurco and Sheahan - should make the team next fall. Glendening has also been good. Love his intensity.

And yet...none of our injured players are coming back! And we'll be without Tatar! Why do The Hockey Gods hate us?!

Jurco needs to play decent minutes and power play tomorrow. Might not have the chance to get up for the rest of the year if he doesn't produce tomorrow night

You really think so? Eh, you're probably right. But, I mean, he's already got a couple goals already, and he's looked surprisingly good.

"Let's be straightforward," Babcock said. "In the cap world sometimes guys on your minor-league team don't get to play on your [NHL] team even when they're ready. Riley Sheahanis right there. Jurco is right there. Glendening is there for sure.

"Sheahan has four points in six games. He's a big man and knows how to play. Jurco can flat-out skate and he knows how to play. Glendenning wears on people, he plays hard and we like him."

Encouraging Babcock statements.

As for Jurco, Babcock has liked what he’s seen. Jurco has two goals and one assist in seven games with the Wings. He has 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points in 32 games with the Griffins.

“He’s a big, talented guy,” Babcock said. “Can really skate. Pushing for a job on our team.

“Last time, I thought he did a real good job, and (he) gets another opportunity this time. You know, the big thing for him is he’s gotta make sure we can’t send him back.”

Soo Tatar is in tomorrow for Samuelson.

I think the lines thatll really break this scoring slump are as follows:

Jurco Z Abby

Nyquist Sheahan Tatar

Miller Emdog Bert

Eaves Glend Cleary

PP 1: Jurco Z Tatar Kronner Eaves

PP 2: Nyquist Sheahan Abby Deke Smith

That is a young but highly skilled top 6 with so much speed and energy itd b hard not to score a couple.

And for the PPs its just stacking the scorers as best we can, unlike Babs and his cleary sammy bert nonsense.

Digging the top 2 lines ....not crazy about eaves on the first ppl unit , who's gonna be on e point?? Rather keep jurco z and abdelkader up front with kronwall and dekeyser on the back

Nyquist Tatar sheahan with smith and kindl on the 2nd ppl

Eaves is on the first PP for his right handed shot that Babs so insists on having.

Is that really our forward corps right now? Wow, I didn't think it had gotten THAT bad...
