To save me from wading through 25 pages of Howard being tarred and feathered, could someone tell me who was doing the colour commentary with Ken last night?

And Pavel with a one-time slapshot! Don't know that I've ever seen that (work) before. See, its not all doom and gloom :)

He hasn't used it often but he's certainly buried a handful that way. Back in 03-04 or 04-05 the Wings played Chicago around Christmas. It was the one where we scored twice in like the last minute to force overtime. If I remember right Dats one timed it for the win with like a tenth of a second left on the clock in OT. I can't find video anymore though which sucks because it was a pretty exciting game.

All I'm saying is that Smith needs more time. It's is first full year and we all know it takes longer for defensemen to reach their full potential.

Well I definitely agree with that. Sorry if I misunderstood the intent of your original post.

No problem :). I guess I have faith in Smitty turning out to be a pretty good d-man down the pike. I like his snarl too. I wish we had a little more of that on this team besides better decision making as a whole with and without the puck.

Really? You have to be kidding? What other young D let alone any rookie makes so many mistakes game after game after game? I suppose you wanted to give Schwartz another year coaching the Lions too.

WTF are you talking about? You obviously haven't watched Ericsson. Besides wth does a coach have to do with a young, rookie defensemen? BTW I hate football and could care less about the Lions so I have no idea why you even bothered to bring that scenario up.

Looking at the bigger picture (not just the game last night in particular), Jimmy Howard kept this team competitive after losing arguably the best D man in the league, as well as losing Rafalski, who was very under-rated by many.

I have faith that Jimmy is still #1 for Detroit. Monster has been great, but that is what the back up is supposed to do when the main man is down. I think the Winter Classic game is exactly what Jimmy needs to get his mojo back.

Hope I am right.

Per St. james:

Luke Glendening on the ice today at practice, Tomas Jurco is not.

So Glendening gets to play both outdoor games n Jurco gets none? What a load of crap that is.

Poor kid.

I don't get it either. Babcock frustrates me more and more. What, just because Glendening does well in outdoor Griffins game he gets the call up???? It's the AHL for goodness sake, not the NHL.

This move is pretty simple. It's not that Babs has a thing for Glendening.

It's that he wants Z and Pav to play together. I bet when the lines come out for tomorrow's game they're both with Bertuzzi and Helm is centering the 2nd line with Abs and Alfie.

If you saw the game last night, once Babs put the two of them back together we turned that game around offensively.

Glendening just gives him a 4th line center and Jurco doesn't. That simple.

Because we need another non scoring 4th liner :glare:

Barabbas16, Dabura said it perfectly us getting close and losing is like Lucy with the football from Charlie Brown.

And yes on some level I would have preferred us tanking the game because with the way this team is built letting a game where we score 4 goals get away is unacceptable. It'll probably be another 10 games before they score 4 goals again, so yeah I would have preferred to not waste a 4 goal game.

Still better than 5-0 (i.e. a game in which Detroit had no chance of winning from start to finish) imo. At least there are some positives to take away on the offensive front (vs. the zero positives to take away from the 5-0 game). Also, at least it was entertaining to watch, for the most part, as Detroit had a good chance to win the game (not the case int he 5-0 example).

And, I'm assuming that it isn't necessary to add this.... but I'll do it anyway, just in case... you don't get to pick WHICH games they score 4 goals in. It's not like... not scoring now will mean more scoring later. Four goals is a better sign going forward for the team than no goals... loss or no loss.

Pretty much this. I wonder if Alfie will be playing, though.
