Someone who decided to chose the son-in-law of the coach.

The Czechs selected six NHL defensemen: Radko Gudas (Tampa Bay), Zbynek Michalek (Phoenix), Michal Roszival (Chicago), Ladislav Smid (Edmonton) and Marek Zidlicky (New Jersey); two former established NHL defensemen: Tomas Kaberle (Kladno in Czech Republic) and Lukas Krajicek (Dynamo Minsk in Russia); and one ex-fringe NHL player: Michal Barinka (Vitkovice in Czech Republic).

Barinka, by many accounts, was a surprise selection. He reportedly is the son-in-law of the Czech team’s head coach, Alois Hadamczik.

This entire time I thought Kindl was Swedish.

Actual exchange from CBS Sports comments regarding choices for the Czech Team:

How can they leave off Marian Hossa, a possible future Hall of famer?

Probably because he is playing for Slovakia where he is actually from?

Wow, that team's kind of a head-scratcher. Worth mentioning; Mrazek honestly seems like a glaring omission when you check (pun intended) out the backups they selected.

This team is pretty terrible. Good luck to them.

So Sobotka now can't play. Who do they replace him with?? Hudler? Vrbata? Nope.

Martin Erat.

I really hope this team get embarrassed. Their selection is a joke.

I think this confirms the anti-NHL theory. There's literally no other reason why they'd pick Martin Erat over Jiri Hudler. Hudler's something of a stud, Erat is a disaster who, one could argue, has been massively screwed over by his Evil Czech-Hating NHL Overlords. Czech Pride and whatnot. I guess.

Nedved, though - everyone really does just want to get with his wife.

@TheHockeyNews: The Czechs again overlooked Jiri Hudler and Radim Vrbata in favor of Martin Erat. Here's one theory why. http://t.co/9wXddzUaom

I don't buy it. I think they're basing it entirely on past performances. Hence Cervenka in the top 6 and Nedved on the team.

I do agree they chose Erat because they believe he's a better defensive player and skater and he will play in the bottom 6.
