Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Some non-UFA names RH dmen I'd be very interested in:

A. Larsson

Bogosian

Other dmen I'd be okay with at the right price:

Edler

Girardi

Might be worth making calls to these teams and seeing who is available without Nyquist/Tatar/Mantha/Sheahan having to be included.

Our available assets being:

-1st round pick (or any picks this year)

-Jurco (only if it was for one of Larsson/Bogosian)

-1 of Sproul/Marchenko/Ouellet/Backman

-Kindl

-Andersson

-Pulkkinen

-Ferraro

I think there are enough assets of different variety to make something happen if Holland is really interested in making a move.

The problem is simple, making a deal that doesn't include Tatar/Nyquist/Danny and Sheahan won't net you a lot. So the best bet would be overpayment come July 1 for a bonafide defender.

If these 4 aren't included other Gms will ask for Mantha which is another no brainer.

Also just because the draft isn't supposed to be good doesn't mean a very good draft position should be automatically in play.

Anyone with a pulse that plays defense. Seriously though, the Red Wings need talent and depth on the back end. Quincey and Kindl shouldn't be dressed -- I would be suprised if there's a market for either at this point. The Wings should jump on any offer from a team willing to rent Quincey.

Our O is 21 in goals scored this year. That is our problem and has been for several years. One game does not a good O make. We were playing the team that is 23rd in goals allowed-the Caps. we are 15th in goals allowed this year, which should be better I agree. But look at the numbers from 08 until now:

Goals scored ranking per year:

08-3rd

09-1st

10-14th

11-2nd

12-7th

13-20th

14-21st

Interesting, in 2 of the 3 years our O finished top 3 in scoring, we played for the Cup.

Now let's look at the D:

08-1st

09-20th

10-7th

11-23rd

12-7th

13-5th

14-15th

Interesting that in the 2 cup years we were 1st and 20th. Even with Nick the D was up and down and varied year to year.

I don't think our offense is perfect, nor do many others, but the more glaring need is defense. Our lack of offense can probably be attributed to them having to be more defensive to support a lackluster D.

We can't trade for a top D, but a #4 with better IQ than Quincey would still be a help. Stuart wasn't a superstar in 08, but he was exactly what we needed.

Offense wins games but defense wins Stanley Cups.

Look no further than the capitals they are a one or two man show at best, which hasn't gone beyond round two of the playoffs because their defense absolutely sucks.

There is a reason why teams are built from the net out. Don't do that and you end up like the Oilers

Vanek would be a great target, if he could be added alongside a bonafide defender.

I don't think we need a #2 D-Man. Kronwall and Ericsson proofed that they can play that. We lack more on the #4 position, or to name it : Quincy. It's not so much Quincys mistakes that make cost us, it's his lack of points. If we can replace him with another #4 puckmoving D-man that actually puts up points it would be a huge improvement.

I still think we need a #2 D, Ericsson has really surpassed his projected level, and has been a bonus for the Wings. In my view he takes over Quinceys spot on the 3/4 next year with DeK and we target a top tier guy to pair with Kronwall. Trade Kindl and or Smith and bring up Marchenko as the 6/7 guy.

Not that I think Holland would make the move, expect Vanek to be heading somewhere March 5:

Sources say Thomas Vanek has turned down a substantial offer from the #Isles, who will likely move him by Mar. 5 deadline. Story to come.

Funny that Quincey is listed in rumors for the Lightning after Stevie nabbed that 1st rounder from us for him. If they actually want him that's awesome, I know they have a lot of young defensemen that are absolutely massive (6'6"+) not sure about their talent though. Any thoughts on what could come back our way? Maybe a package deal for someone?

If we could create a package of any of these 4 and bring back a top 4 Dman I would be okay with it.

Jurco, Oullete, Quincey, Kindl, 1st, Anderrson.

No way do I want to give up Tatar or Goose. We barely score enough goals as it is. We don't need to trade away guys who have all but proven they can score 20+ goals a season.

Also, I have no idea why people would rather give up Goose over Tatar. Goose is the superior player, imo. More responsible defensively, has put up 2 less points than Tatar but in 16 less games. I don't wanna lose either but if I absolutely had to choose give me Goose.

Vaneks going to a cup contender. (Pit Bos Ana St louis) one of those types.

ALL I WANT FOR PUR TEAM IS DAN GIRARDI!

Didnt anyone watch the game yesterday/ the super bowl? Defense wins championships! We need a top 2 dman!

At this point pur expendable assets are:

Quincey

Kindl

Cleary

Bert

Eaves

Miller

Andersson

Almqvuist

Picks

Aslong as were not getting rid of Goose,Tats,Jurco,Mantha or Oullette im good.

Nyquist is very good, but Tatar is better. Tatar creates all his offense on his own. Nyquist has superior linemates, more icetime, and more PP time (with better linemates again). Look at his hatty last night, Zetterberg basically gift wrapped that one for him. No reason to believe that Tatar wouldn't do the same with similar opportunites, since he's basically doing the same with third line minutes and two rookies.

Also, Tatar does not play bad defense...and Nyquist is no shutdown defensive forward. They both work extremely hard on defense (watch Tatar backcheck), but they're both too small to be effective right now. I think everyone saying Nyquist is better defensively is just something people repeat for the sake of it. Tatar gets back as often as any on the team at this point.

Well then don't set your sights too high on trade deadline day because if you're not willing to part with a good player, you're not going to get anyone back who's worth a damn.

I predict that Kenny will answer some prayers and finally make a big splash at the deadline.

I then predict that all those LGWers that criticized him for "kicking tires", "liking his team", and sitting on his hands are going to absolutely loose their minds when he trades one of Tatar, Jurco, or Nyquist.

You are absolutely spot on with the second part. Though I'm still skeptical that he'll make a move at all.

kipwinger beat me to it. Tatar hasn't had the same opportunities as Nyquist. I love Tatar, the dude is a hound a the puck. Never gives up and is always working his tail off. I mean don't get me wrong, I like Nyquist too and would rather retain both.
