Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

I can't see Holland going after any of the big names that are on the market and I can't see us picking up anyone other than a depth defenseman. In saying that, I think Tom Gilbert would be a great pickup and it shouldn't cost too much in assets.

I think Kindl and Andersson could get the deal done. They get a young, former first rounder, that still has potential to grow, as well as a great penalty kill that they desperately need, being ranked dead last on the PK at just 76.4%.

Gilbert is a UFA after this season, with a low $900K cap hit, so if he works out, he may resign to another reasonable contract at a slight raise. He's only 31 years old and is a right handed shot, and he has more points (3-22-25) than anyone on our blueline not named Kronwall. He's not overly physical (45 hits) despite being 6'3" and over 200lbs but he blocks a decent number of shots (78).

To Florida - Jakub Kindl, Joakim Andersson

To Detroit - Tom Gilbert

Kronwall - Ericsson

DeKeyser - Smith

Quincey - Gilbert

Lashoff

I don't think we really need to upgrade our offense too much but If Holland does want to go after a forward with Zetterberg out for the rest of the regular season and maybe questionable for the playoffs, I think Jagr could be a decent option.

He can maybe had for a couple mid level prospects and a mid round draft pick. He's getting up there now at age 42 but he can definitely still be a huge impact player. He has 50 points so far this season on a weaker, more defensive minded team. Those 50 points would make him our leading scorer, not too shabby for an old man.

To New Jersey - Landon Ferraro, Nick Jensen, conditional 2014 3rd round dtaft pick

To Detroit - Jaromir Jagr

Jagr - Datsyuk - Franzen

Nyquist - Weiss - Alfredsson

Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco

Miller - Helm - Abdelkader

Eaves / Bertuzzi / Cleary

LTIR - Zetterberg

I think if this team could stay relatively healthy it would be able to continue the steak as well as make a decent push for the Stanley Cup this season...

I think Kindl for Gilbert straight up would work, and adding Andersson would be an over payment. I know that he isn't a star, but I really don't understand why so many people are so eager to trade Andersson away jsut to get rid of him. He's not a problem in the room, he works hard, he can kill penalties, and he's still young enough that he has upside. I don't get it.

I don't want Ehrhoff for one reason: 2021. That's when his contract expires. I'd be really hesitant to take Myers too. He might just need a change of scenery, but he might just not be that good, and I don't want to be stuck with a younger Quincey for 5 more years with a cap hit of $5.5 mil.

I wonder if Holland could fleece them and get Hodgson for less than market value?

Rumor was that Kenny & David Poile did talk about the price for Weber right before the Philly offer sheet but it was too high on an intra-division move. I think it's time to revisit that conversation with all but the kids currently on the roster (Nyquist, Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco) & Mantha being off the table. Screw this small move stuff. With Z & Sammy now on LTIR for the rest of the season, there's room to make a big splash.

So you want top make a big move, but don't want any of the Wings best young players to be traded.

In other words, you don't really want them to make a big move.

My understanding is that Kenny and co. actually sat down with Weber, and he basically said he wasn't interested in being a Wing. That was - and probably still would be - the biggest obstacle.

He could have just as effectively stated that in an email, why add the effort, logistics, and expense of a sit-down?

But that also leaves the following commodities available as far as I'm concerned that could be dangled as trade bait:

  • Multiple draft picks, say this & next years 1st rounders
  • Current NHL talent: Helm, Smith, DeKeyser, & Andersson
  • Prospects rated higher than Jurco and/or Sheahan like Mrazek & Jarnkrok
  • Drop Marchenko due to the injury but that still leaves some solid D prospects like Sproul, Ouellet, & Backman and to a lesser extent Jensen & Almquist
  • Forward prospects like Callahan, Ferraro, Pulkkinen, & Athanasiou. Just leave Hampus Melen off the table though.

Maybe a combo from this doesn't get a Weber but it can get something a hell of a lot better than a Steve Ott.

I'd be down with Gilbert. Gilbert and Edler would be gravy. Like I've said, though, I don't see Edler being moved this season - and if he does get moved, it will, I think, be for a substantial return. Bottom line: the Canucks are in a dog fight for a wild card spot, same as us.

Nashville doesn't need defensive forwards, defensemen or a goalie prospect. They need offensive forwards.

There is no way Nashville moves Weber without getting young high-potential offensive forwards in return. I'm talking roster guys. Not futures.

Vancouver, Nashville, and Phoenix are the 3 teams most likely to move a higher end defenseman, other than a rental like Girardi or MacDonald. All 3 of those teams are in positions to win now, so they would want guys who can contribute now.

Put yourself in the shoes of another GM. Looking at the Wings roster, whoa re you going to be asking about? My top 4 targets are Nyquist, Tatar, Dekeyser, and Jurco. Smith still has time to improve, but he's been pretty shaky defensively so I don't know how much value he really has. Same with Kindl. In the minors, I might take a look at Mantha or AA, Pulk, Sproul, Ouellet, and Mrazek, and I'm not really interested in anyone else except as filler to make a deal even.

I can't see weber coming over to the right side..... Hes the highest paid player this year and Pollie would ask for a fortune back... Dickie has a good point, MacDonald would be cheaper to obtain than Girardi obv, Sather would ask for a lot in return and its not guarantee to resign him after season.... Wings need a top 4 dman not necessarily top 2, I think we can keep kronwall Ericsson for the top 2, headscratch after,,, tough decisions to say the least...

Yea I'm pretty sure and hopefully Kesler doesn't come to red wings... We need to send Weiss/cleary and/ quincy for edler.... No way to give away Nyquist +others for kesler

Trading away Weiss before he has had a chance to play uninjured for the Wings just isn't going to happen. You can keep suggesting it every couple of pages, but rational people realize we haven't seen what the guy can really do in a Wings' sweater.

Lol internet ur right its wishful thinking but it was a terrible signing and its mostly his groin I think so time should heal it well and to package him with quincy cleary or maybe bert would be a W for wings (Bert welcomed back in Vancouver after the Moore disaster and suspension?)

Actually, now that I really think about it, I guess I can maybe see where you're coming from. But I have to think that if any one of those three moves a high-end defenseman, they're going to want a Damn Good Return. Depending on the player, it might be worth it for us. (Also, the sky is blue.) But our focus is probably going to be on potential bargains. (But at night the sky is black.)
