Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

LeBrun thinks that the Wings are in on Kesler. He is on TSN 1050 right now talking about the trade deadline.

Wings are looking to add, but not rental players. Wants players that would be here beyond this season.

Dude I really don't want to get my hopes up...but I would lose my s*** if the Wings landed Kesler and even a lower level puck mover (e.g. Gilbert)

For the suggested package you posted? Weiss, Anderson, Quincey, and Almquist? Ok, sure.

It's one thing to claim there a no worthy players available and then crack on LGWers for thinking there are, but it's a completely different issue not agreeing with the validity of suggested trades.

Figure out which issue you want to crack on, then stick with it.

I highly doubt it happens, so I'm not getting my hopes up. It would cost too much to land him. You know the Nucks would want a package revolving around Mantha, which will never happen. I think Edler is the more realistic deal with Vancouver.

I just wonder about Kes's willingness to become a Wing. Wasn't he "that guy" growing up in Michigan? You know the one, rooted for the Avs, went to Ohio State, basically middle fingered any and everything Michigantastic? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Lebrun is just throwing out names, hoping something will stick.

Obviously they're all speculating. That's the nature of the rumor game. But there are those rumor mongers who are informed and generally more credible (LeBrun, McKenzie, Deger) and those that aren't (Richardson, Eklund, Garrioch).

I agree that it's incredibly unlikely that Kesler becomes a Wing, and probably unlikely that he's moved at all. But Lebrun is not really known for just pulling sh*t out of his ass as you're suggesting.

Here's ESPN's Pierre LeBrun thinking out loud:

Again, my words, not Holland's, but center Ryan Kesler to me is the type of player whom the Wings would definitely have interest in, if the price was right. He's signed past this year, he's a two-way stud and he's a Michigan kid.

My sense is the Wings will keep an eye on that situation in Vancouver between now and Wednesday's deadline.

If what Vancouver is asking is too high a price for Kesler, then I don't see Detroit as a player in that mix. But if the price comes down and something makes sense, I would think the Wings would keep tabs on that one.

Trade deadline time: (thought process of the Wings "fan")

All the other teams players are awesome. Wings need them all.

Most Wings players are expendable.

... honestly, if these players were all so important, they wouldn't be "available". Most "fans" just want trades for the sake of trades.

Trade you my Sony Walkman for your Pet Rock?

Don't like the answers, stop asking questions.

Someone s*** in your Cheerios this morning? Wow.

This could maybe make sense as both teams get guys on expiring contracts. Maybe Quincey and a 3rd or 2nd for macdonald

I'm no Kyle Quincey fan, but that seems like overpayment. I think, best case scenario, MacDonald is a marginal upgrade to Quincey and I'm not even convinced of that. If the Wings are going to make a deal for a d-man and give up picks/assets, it should be for a player that solidifies the second pairing.

MacDonald is a way better dman especially in the defensive zone where we need one, hes a beast at blocking shots and just solid maybe not as much offensive upside as Quincy but a difference maker in our zone

Indeed, Kesler was definitely "that guy." Growing up he basically hated the Wings.

People said the same thing about Wisniewski. Right now I'd kill for either of "those guys".

Edit: Just thought of something. Obviously the lines would skake out differently, but just imagine how awesome a line of Tatar-Kesler-Jurco would be? Since in an ideal world Kesler is the EXACT type of center we hope Sheahan will be.

Lol internet ur right its wishful thinking but it was a terrible signing and its mostly his groin I think so time should heal it well and to package him with quincy cleary or maybe bert would be a W for wings (Bert welcomed back in Vancouver after the Moore disaster and suspension?)

I'm hoping Weiss comes back and becomes a dominant 2nd line center. If not, then we can talk. :)

Well I see him 3rd line if he can stay healthy I think its best to split z and datsyuk except on PP and have helm on the 4th maybe but I still think he's overpaid (5mil, albeit injury riddled unlucky)

I disagree with you. When hank comes back in the playoffs, he will not be as well conditioned and in game form. Babs will likely play him with pav so that hank does not have to center a line, making it easier on him.
