Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

It's amazing how wrong you are.

This team is currently 7th in goals allowed

They are 12th in goals scored.

This team is in bad need of finishers, the defense while not spectacular hasn't been as bad as many people think it is.

Kenny is saying that he's looking for D and our top 3 lines are stacked - problem is all injuries. So far our top 7 forwards missed 111 games and Dats is playing on one knee...

Kronwall is top 2 D but he's not the Top D.

E is top 4 playing top 2.

DeKe is top 4.

Q is bottom six playing top 4.

Smith is #5 playing top 4.

Kindl is bottom six playing sometimes top 4.

Lashoff is a solid AHL D playing #6.

Kenny should be looking for 4th line muscle - like Gazdic so he can take on Neil instead of having Franzen getting hurt again.

I agree that D is the bigger need, but unless you can show me 20 better d-men the Kronwall isn't a #1 thing is nonsense. Ericsson and Dekeyser are both better suited as a #3 though.

That said, a power forward is a close second on the list of what the team needs. Kesler would address that.

Tatar or Nyquist + a 1st+ D prospect + Helm or a B forward prospect.

repeat....Helm, Almqvist, 1st for Kesler...

Kindl, 3rd for Morris...

I think you'd probably have to give more to get Kesler. Look at what Columbus got for Nash. Probably have to upgrade the prospect part of it to Marchenko or Quellet at a minimum.

ya, but the fact that our 1st round pick will be almost 15 slots higher than, lets say, Pittsburgh, should add more value. Which we could send the lessor Almqvist. Plus Helm is a bit better all around than Sutter...

I don't think Babs would ever let Kenny trade Helm away. Neither him or Clears.

Agreed on both points. The problem is, they're trading a young star. Even if the pick was top ten, it's still hard to entice a team to trade a star with a pick (which may or may not turn out). That's why picks are used to sweeten the pot, but not be the center piece. The difference between the 15th and 28th pick is almost impossible to gauge the value on.

Helm, Almquist, and a first might get it done, I don't want to say absolutely not...but I have a hard time believing someone couldn't beat that for a guy of Kesler's quality.

7th in goals allow and 12th in goals scored, okay on paper but we need a solid dman to be out in last min of game to not give up a goal we have nobody but Ericsson n kronwall.... We need a top 3/4 players Andrew MacDonald on isles would be cheap and can maybe package with a vanek if the price is right.... Kulikov would be awesome I think, he way under developed and has potential.... Morris is not the as solid on D as I'd like but he has a rocket shot and can be top 4..... I would actually take sutter over helm because of his injuries last 2 season.... Like a few others mentioned we do NOT need kesler

I don't see Holland including Helm in any kind of trade. This team doesn't really have anyone to replace his role and even if they got something similar back as part of a trade it's still hard to replace his speed. He has been plagued with injury problems but so was Kronwall for a good portion of the beginning of his NHL career and now he's been healthy for the most part. Personally, I would just stick with the forward group they have out there and hope that Zetterberg can make it back in time for the playoffs (assuming they make it in). A 3/4 defenseman is the most pressing need and I agree with everyone saying to pursue MacDonald from the Isles, if the price isn't too steep.

I'm not quite sure they would be willing to take a chance on Helm, with his track record of injuries & and amount of time he's actually played. Just don't see him as "the guy" to sweeten the deal

This is probably true.

Ya I don't get why helm's name is being thrown around all of a sudden ... He's going nowhere at his best when he's healthy I'd say he's one of best 3rd line centers .... Tremendous speed great defensively can kill penalties , I'd say he's a type of player you need in the playoffs to win the cup

I'd say it's a safe bet holland and Babcock love him and unless he's demanding a 8 yr deal for 5 per type deal next contract I can see him here for many years to come

I would include Abby instead if Helm, even though Babs loves him and I doubt Holland would ever entertain trading him.

seems Colorado is looking to trade Stastny...rumored they are looking for a young D prospect, a solid D man still under contract and possibly a pick...

Kindl, Almqvist, 1st....get it done! I would even make it Smith...

Neither of those would get it done. Colorado would want Dekeyser who I have no interest in letting go.

In other news seems like Brodeur will get dealt, we don't need him, but I'm interested to see where he ends up. It's a shame he wasn't able to spend his entire career in NJ.

Id like to see us get a defenseman like Dustin byfuglien or Big buff himself. He has not only size but has immense hockey talent. Id love to have a guy like that on the blue line.

I just feel like he has somthing this teams been missing for a while now. He could really thrive here. The ability to play D and Forward is what intrigues me the most. Big guy with hands? Yes Please.

From Gillis point of view he can do better than that. Especially compared to how much Shero gave up last year for some pure rentals.

Also Kesler for his size is diving way too much I don't like that and I fully understand why he would want out Torts is just too demanding especially with his shot blocking. Why would Keeper waive his ntc to come here? Guy wants to win a cup and this team isn't a contender regardless if he's on the roster or not.

this will be very shallow trade deadline because once again its a sellers market and the prices are too high for most Gms.

Defenseman who is a defensive liability? No thanks.

Per Vancouver sportswriter Jason Botchford: "The Canucks cant trade Kesler without getting a centre in return. They just dont have enough depth at the position."

That's why it makes so much sense that Weiss be a major part of that package. No matter how disappointing he may have been so far, he was a solid 1C and a captain and would be a solid 2c. Andersen gives them a 3c they desperately need as well, and helps to balance contract numbers. I'm good adding Pulkkinen or Jarnkrok, and an early pick.

There is another article that I cannot find that states why Gillis cannot afford to overvalue Kesler in this trade, but I can't find it.

Weiss is light years ahead of anything Sutter has to offer.

I'd go for Erhoff. Solidifies our top 4 and we can let Quincey walk in the offseason. Much needed offense that doesn't stop dead after the first pairing. Get him for cheap with that huge contract. We have a log jam of prospects ready to make jump to NHL with no room. Just makes too much sense

I agree with this. Would love Ehrhoff, but Buffalo trading within the same division it's going to cost quite a bit.

We also got a lot of good d prospects coming up soon (ouellet, sproul, backman, marchenko, almquist etc) and kronwall Ericsson dekeyser are locks to stay longterm ... Got kindl lashoff smith up now (I'm sure a few will be dealt) .... Just don't know if adding someone with a 7yr deal is a wise move

Adding a mark Stuart at the deadline might be better longterm and wouldn't cost as much
