Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

No way spezza coming to us.... Its blasphemy to think Holland is looking to get calmari and westgarth, what will he possibly give I thought camalari signed a new deal this year, I can't be right.... We need a top 3 dman.... Great point on Q giving smith bad passes and putting our players in bad position, the stats might say he's only 3rd in giveaways, my eyes tell me he 2nd to last lol.... Q and 2/3 pic for ehrhoff I don't think that's overpaying by much...

Ehrhoff would be alright with me, as he would provide some more offense (or, at least, be able to make passes out of the D zone). I just don't think he's the best long-term solution for this team. This is a year where I'd actually be okay with Kenny not doing anything at the deadline. Wait until the draft or start of free agency and see who's available.

Wait on what...to see Markov,Boyle,Zidlicky or some other PP QB getting $5M contracts on the free market.

Erhoff isn't going to restrict us from signing a #1 defensemen even though there are none available. Think of him as a Quincey replacement which is an upgrade. There's no guarantee we'll be able to sign a better defensemen then Quincey in the summer in which case we'll have to resign him or he walks and our Defense is as bad as it's ever been. Then you waste another year being a fringe playoff team.

Here's a name I haven't heard mentioned: Mark Giordano. Even though he's Calgary's captain, I'm sure he'd be available for the right price--given their rebuild.

Giordano's gritty, blocks shots, and still generates offense (9-20-29 in 42 games so far this year). One of the most underrated players in the league, IMO. Best of all, he's signed for a $4 million cap hit the next two years.

Thoughts? This top 4 does look a thousand times better without Quincey in it...

Kronwall--Ericsson

Giordano--DeKeyser

It seems every year we have a new young player who looks good in limited action and is deemed "untouchable" by fans.

Then the next year comes, he plays more minutes and gets exposed a bit more or injured and doesn't explode into the "future" player he was predicted as and everyone moves onto the next flavour of the week.

It has recently happened with Helm, then Smith, then Nyquist, then Tatar, and now Jurco and Sheahan and I'm sure it will continue on with Pulkkinen, Jankrok and Mantha. It's like clockwork every year...

Bottom-line everyone's available for the right price and maybe we all(myself included) have a bad habit of over-valuing our young guys.

That was just a fun idea whilst reading on TSN seeing that he may be available.

I mentioned it in the deadline prediction thread, I'd love him but depending on the asking price. He'd be a perfect fit with DeKeyser too.

Per St.James

Livonia's Ryan Kesler would intrigue anyone, but Vancouver's asking price is two or three top young players and/or prospects, along with a first-rounder. Kesler, 29, is a top-six power forward and former Selke winner, and he has two seasons left on his contract, at $5 million per year. He also comes in with a significant history of injuries.

The Wings aren't going to ante up at the current asking price for Kesler — it'd cost some combination of Gustav Nyquist/Tomas Tatar/Tomas Jurco/Riley Sheahan, along with the Wings' first-rounder from last year, Anthony Mantha, plus the first-round pick in this year's draft.

Hell no to trade for Kesler

But I like our prospects. :D I'd rather trade a kid that's still good, but out of options on our end like Ferraro or Almqvist.

I don't view Jurco in the same category as the mentioned ones so if he is part of a package for Ehrhoff I would be okay with that.

What do the Sabres need? They suck at every position so maybe Mrazek Jurco and second rounder are enough

I'll 2nd that! That would be WAY overpaying. Power forward  and he never should have won the Selke. Stupid shortened season put the trophy committe on the short bus. Kesler got Selke and Subban wins the Norris :lol: those each get a laugh.

Mrazek, no. Paterson, sure.

@zwingeddangler for sure haha.... And to the spezza deal ya on nbcsn they were reiterating probably same report, spezza on the block the teams milbury and Jones, Philly Boston and I think Pitts, I don't think it would be terrible idea in getting him just can't see it happen, its something like 7 mil next year but 4.5 on the salary cap, and he's FA after next season

It's funny how those 3 teams somehow have just enough cap space each year to add a high priced guy at the deadline.

I don't think the asking price for Kesler is shocking we are talking about Gillian here. A guy who rather makes his organization and the involved player look bad instead of accepting a fair deal. Kesler is not Toews or Crosby so yeah two top prospects and a first rounder is not gonna happen.

Tsn is really hyping this thing up sadly also their last trade deadline f*** you Rogers

That would definitely be an overpayment, and there's no way that Vancouver is asking for that. As usual St. James is exposing herself as clueless.

Agree,it's probably 2 prospects and a 1st, but then think about what CBJ got in a deal for Nash...Dubinsky,Anisimov,Erixon and a 1st

What if we take john Scott, buffalo has to be willing to give him away with how bad he made them look, maybe he will respect the logo and babs coaching and embrace a real opportunity to be on a winning team, can't tell me there's many tougher than him, a 5/6th should do it maybe even package him with ehrhoff

GM's have gotten so greedy lately that most trades have become one-sided. I miss trades where both teams come out happy and not with one GM feeling like he stepped on a flaming bag of s***.

Too bad the Hockey trade that Holland is looking for has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

Yeah, but recent Buffalo & St.Louis trade is the one of the better Hockey trades in years. It's not impossible, you just need 2 non-greedy and realistic GM's.

Well, the Griffins could use another fighter, so why not.

I'd take him.

If you're gonna miss the playoffs, you may as well have fun doing it.

Discussion between Vancouvers Team 1040 and a Penguins beat reporter said Sheros offer is Sutter, a prospect, and both a 1 and a 3 rd pick. He said to sweeten the deal, they'd give up Poulliot.

He say Shero has always loved Kesler, and says Shero wants to be kept abreast of all negotiations with other teams so he can best all offers.

Writer also said Kesler really liked his Olympic experience with Bylsma and Granato .

I would definetly go Weiss, one of Sproul, Oullet, or Jensen , and next years 1 and 3.

After watching the Griffins again this weekend, I'd really rather not move Almquist.
