Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Out the gate, I admit I'm a Holland fan. I agree with his long-term conservative approach to the game in the cap era. I share his view on avoiding trades and overpaying. I agree that overall strategy should be quality draft acquisitions. I agree that prospects should be forced into the minors as long as possible.

Where I don't agree is this whole "hockey trade" thing. He's acting old and out dated if he thinks he's going to move the guys he doesn't want (Bertuzzi, Cleary, etc.) for a guy he does want. The reality of the cap era game is it involves moving picks and prospects for the guys you want. In that sense I think he's wrong. If in his position right now, I would still play close to the vest, but I would definitely be chasing a puck moving D-man hard. A trade invloving picks and prospects. I would not be after a high profile guy like Vanek or Kesler though.

Heartbroken, as much as I hate it I have to agree and say Kenny should start preparing for next season, dump some cap and ship out rentals for some picks or maybe a veteran dman, get our young bloods some serious ice time and exp, so going into next year we'll know where we stand with our prospects

Get z and Pablo back to 100% and ready to beast next year!!

The issue is we don't have any rentals that will fetch anything. Edited by wings87

For sure package off a pick with one of the vets bert cleary eaves Quincey Samuelson, it sucks cuz nobody really wants who I just named =[ lol.... Unless were getting a solid player on contract for at least next 2 years, I don't think we should trade the first pick

@wings87 Yea lol.... If Kenny only seen this thread haha....

I know they are sitting, but it doesn't mean Babcock won't put them in instead of bringing some kids up from GR.

I don't know what's wrong with Pav's knee but I would assume he needs some sort of surgery or at least a good deal of rest. I feel like he probably needs some sort of surgery but is trying to tough it out for the team in hopes of at least playing a few games. Can you imagine how much easier, yet tough to swallow, Hollands job would be right now if both Pav and Z were out the rest of the season? I don't think we would be talking about a trade at all, if we did it would be more selling than buying, imo.

Oh, well as long as you FEEL that he needs surgery, by all means they should schedule it ASAP.

Babcock has been sitting Cleary every game for quite awhile now. Once he runs out of other bodies that might change out of necessity. Samuelsson is "hurt" again so that's not an option.

Believe that Clears is "hurt" as well... at least not up to his normal 56% mobility.

EDIT: Forgive me. That might be a generous number.

Exact quote. Tell me how I'm taking it out of context. You don't know, but you're acting like you do know he needs it. It's possible to have an injury that doesn't require surgery but needs extended rest to get better.

this is the year, especially right now in our current situation, that draft picks mean nothing. Trade #'s 1-7 for all I care, this team is hurt and hurt bad, we need help, we need rentals, we need forwards and D.

Jagr, Hemsky, Legwand, Kesler (too expensive tho) Vanek, Stewart, Edler, Erhoff, Callahan, Visnovsky....come on Kenny © the players are out there, dump those draft picks, you have plenty, a PLETHORA of young talent in GR that you are about to lose to waivers if the don't get promoted, trade that draft pick, trade a couple of those prospects... WE NEED HELP! Keep The Streak Alive!

I'm sad thinking the reality will be that nothing will happen in Red Wing land, because they have made some possibly drastic mistakes and they are now coming back to haunt them.

Too many bad deals (Cleary, Bert, Sammy, etc.) and too many injuries to key and veteran players means they more than likely will have to make a massive push to even make the playoffs. I don't see it happening, as much as i want it to, and I don't think Kenny has the pieces or desire to re-tool at the deadline. It's sad.
