About the same time last year Tatar was involved in every trade proposal on LGW,cause he's a smallish guy.

The history repeats, except Pulkinnen is the guy now.Let's see him first playing the big club games.Last I've checked he's doing pretty well on the Griffins.

There's also the fact that teams won't want Pulk as a main part of a trade package for a good player. They'll want Tatsr and Nyquist.

Oh this young man has had a very trying rookie season, with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country's refusal to accept him, well, I guess that's more than most 21-year-olds can handle... Ogie Ogilthorpe!

Nikolai Kulemin 28 this summer. 6-1/225 LH LW/RW. His per 82 game averages for his career is 17 goals per season. UFA class 2014. Averages over 2 hits per game.

Now I have thought the idea of adding him was a good one for several years. Might be a good running mate for Datsyuk. He has a season best of 30 goals a few years ago, so he has some scoring ability. The ML seem to be willing to let him walk. if we could add him for say 5 years at 3.5 million per would be a good deal.

That's definitely a big if. The way a lot of these contracts have been looking lately, I'm thinking he would get at least 4.5M (if not more) per season. Wouldn't wanna overpay him too much, but for the right price/term I wouldn't mind seeing him in the red and white. Good young (durable) player.

If we signed him I'd want him at a shorter term than 5 years. I'd even be willing to pay him a bit more to get the term down.

I want as much flexibility as possible in our forward line-up over the next couple of years to make room for our prospects knocking on the door.

Even though I like Kulemin, I wouldn't want to lose any prospects we've developed over him, especially when we're not probably not going to get the 30 goal scoring Kulemin.

IMO he's nothing to write home about. We have plenty of other emerging forwards. Why add a C-lister like him? Pass

Kindl, Andersson, Almqvist to NJ for Zids and Jagr...one rental, one to re-sign...

Trade Q to whoever wants him for whatever they offer....( that so I don't mention Morrow again!)

Waive Sammy again, Bert and Cleary both sit and Franzen is still injured.  Z is LTIR, even if he wasn't it would still fit under the cap...until Weiss gets back that is...

Nyquist - Datsyuk - Jagr
Abdelkader - Helm - Alfredsson
Jurco - Sheahan - Tatar
MIller - Glendening - Eaves

Kronwall - Zidlicky
Ericsson - Dekeyser
Smith - Lashoff
Marchenko

...when Weiss comes back you waive Eaves again or send Glenny back down. If Z plays, then you have to waive Cleary and Bert and send down Jurco...unfortunately

On a good team Zidlicky is a 3rd line dman. He's Colaiacovo with more grit, similar injuries, and slightly better puck movement,

Sorry, but moving Kindl, Quincey, and Almqvist is stupid. That's called shooting your defensive prosthetic leg in the foot.

I can't believe some people would like to have Bourque...

Can we just give a chance to our young players???

Bogo's a good player, but he's not a superstar by any stretch.  I'd rather have Trouba.

Trouba sat in front of me in my senior year math class. Nice kid. Would be a joy to have on the wings.

There are several reasons why Kulemin is a good fit. 1. Maybe most important: he is available. We can all come up with lots of names, but how many are truly available? he is. 2. he is Russian. Linemate for datsyuk and Euros tend to be cheaper on the UFA market than NA players. 3. he has already PROVEN he can play at the NHL level, were as most of our prospects have not. 4. With Z, Franzen, and datsyuk all well over 30 and developing injury issues you need guys in the late 20's-prime years of there careers to help the young guys when they come up. 4. Kulemin is not going to come here and be a 30 goal per year guy. But 20 per year on a line with datsyuk? yes he can do that. 5. We have tons of cap room for the next couple of years, baring any stupid resigning by Holland. best guess right now is 16 million after we resign our RFA's for next season. More if franzen is bought out/LTIR and Z is LTIR. Plus we have a buyout left to use. cap room and payroll flexability we have, proven NHL players is what we are short on.

We'd lose the foot - but it wouldn't hurt!

Emmerton, Sheahan. Almquist and Pulkinnen all recalled to the Wings today....

Also curious as to why they had the call ups today. Does conditioning camp for the red wings start soon or something?

First off welcome to the boards.

This is from KuklasKorner:

This is interesting, per the Red Wings' PR department. The Grand Rapids Griffins are holding a tripleheader this weekend and the Red Wings resume practicing at Joe Louis Arena today at 2 PM, and they'll resume their NHL season with games in Montreal on the 26th and in Ottawa on the 27th. Will some of these warm bodies be with them, or is this just maximizing-LTIR-spending stuff while augmenting the practice squad?

So I guess it could just be bodies for practice till the Olympians return.  But who knows.

Not sure you're thinking of the right player. His injury history is no where near as bad as Colas and he's much better offensively. And while he's definitely an offensive defenseman, he's not a major liability defensively. He's currently playing top-line minutes on one of the better defensive teams. He's at least no worse or more mistake-prone than Q or Smith, so we'd at least break even on defense while greatly improving our offense from the back end.

And I'm not sure how moving an AHL player, who may not have a future here (and maybe not even an NHL future), a player in the scratch rotation, and a player that doesn't fit here, and probably won't be back, is shooting anything.

Kronwall - Ericsson
Smith - DeKeyser

Lashoff - Griffin

^^^^ Is not a D corp I want entering the playoffs. We are weakest at D, why would we want to make that worse by making Lashoff a regular, a rookie a regular, and giving Smith more ice time? What happens if one, or even multiple, D-men go down with injuries? We'd really be up sh**s creek then. Just cause our young forwards have flourished this season doesn't mean our young D-men will too. Case and point: Smith and Kindl. We should be trimming forwards and adding defensive depth.

About Zidlicky, you're correct about his injuries. I think his injury in Minnesota a few years ago just stuck out in my mind cause he was on my fantasy team that year, other than that you're right, he's been pretty healthy. He's a great puck mover and for an offensive D-man he isn't afraid to hit at all. I just think members around here would start throwing fits about his defense... though he's no worse than Q and the gang at this point either like you said.

At the end of the day, whether he were to re-sign at the end of the season with us or not, at 37 years old he's a rental. I might be willing to part with our 1st for that this year, if the draft class really is as weak as they say.
