Nyquist is still too small to produce against top opposition.

To be fair, he hasn't demonstrated that he can be a first-line force in the NHL (yet). (Not that it's his "fault," of course.) And I probably would sleep better at night if, in the event that he were placed in the top six, there were at least one big body on his line.

All that aside...Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Nyquist = line porn.

All I can say at this point is how awesomely entertaining would Zetterberg Datsyuk Nyquist--------->#

Versus certain matchups you are right, it would be a lot of fun to watch. With other matchups Abby may work better, and other matchups still, Bert or even Mule may be the best option

This roster certainly has its fair share of options.

One option I'd like to see would be Mule Weise Bert. That line had it's moments in the past with Filapoola, like to try it with the new guy.

Not to mention that line could then leave Z D Alf as the other top line.

Z D Alf

Mule Weise Bert

Tatar Anderson NyQ

Abby Helm Eaves

Zetterberg- Datsyuk- Bertuzzi

Franzen- Weiss- Alfie

Nyquist- Anderson- Tatar

Abby- Helm-Miller/Eaves/Sammy

Kronners- Ericsson

Dekeyser- Smith

Kindl- Quincy

- I think this will make the team as balanced as possible.

- Bert, as long as he is healthy, is better than Abby on the top line with Pavs and Hank. Bert is a bigger body, and is able to create more space for the Eurotwins. Also, Bert is a very good passer, and can contribute with goals. I think that this can be a very good 1st line if Babs keeps them together given we still have a really good 2nd line.

- I really am looking forward to seeing this 2nd line play. It has all the potential to be one of the top 2nd lines in the league, and Alfie is going to be super hungry. I see big things from this line.

- In the playoffs, our 3rd line was fantastic and at times was our best line. We are going to essentially replace Brunner with Tatar, which is not a bad thing considering what we know and have seen from Tatar. Anderson developed himself into a solid 3rd line center last year, and Nyquist and Tatar will add a nice element of speed and skill. This will be a fun line to watch and could become one of the better 3rd lines in the league.

- Our 4th line will see a HUGE upgrade this season assuming Helm is back and fully healthy. Add Abby who has some grit and knowledge of the game, and Miller/ Eaves, and you have a solid 4th line capable of doing their job well.

- Kronners and Ericsson were great last year, no reason to change that. I would like to see Kronners shoot the puck more this season tho.

- Danny D was fantastic when he played for us, and Smith could really benefit from having that solid defense presence playing with him... I would like to give this a try.

- Kindl had a a developing year last season with his offense, but still needs to work on his defense. Quincy really settled down after the 10 game mark last year and played a solid season. I think this is a capable 3rd pairing.

Overall, I think this is our best group of forwards since 2009 when we were STACKED and I am super excited to watch this season. Come on Oct. 2nd!!

I have always loved Dats and Bert as a pair but honestly Big Bert didn't even pop into my mind until earlier today when I read an article on how good he feels, which got me to thinking...Dats Z and Bert would be a dirty line for sure, patient, pretty & proud...

I agree however Dats was too small for a while too, I see a lot of similarities in Dats and Nyquist so I feel his size will soon come....

... I still feel Datsyuk Zetterberg Nyquist .is a "secret weapon" line that would 100% bewilder whomever the opposing line happens to be.

Sure, if your line porn means three non-physical players on a single line. In case you'd forgotten, Zetterberg and Datsyuk have, when together on a line, seen their greatest success when paired with a physical player who can do the grunt work in the corners and screen the goalie. Holmstrom is an excellent example of this. Brunner is not. Nyquist would not be either.

It would also be a line lacking in any sort of physicality, anyone to clear space, and anyone to do the dirty work in the crease.

Abdelkader is not Holmstrom first. Second, Holmstrom wasn't some physical dynamo, a lot of his career he was known for falling at the slightest touch by anyone.

Crosby plays with Kunitz and Dupuis. There is no physicality with that line either but yet they still produce.

Interesting. I'd assumed you were in favor of putting Nyquist with Z and D. I'm not (hence "To be fair...") I thought you were against the whole grit element thing?

Holmstrom was tough and gritty. He battled in the corners and in front of the net.

I agree that Abdelkader is not Holmstrom, but he's a damned sight more formidable than Nyquist. And, as noted, Zetterberg and Datsyuk have rarely performed well with a small finesse player. The two of them have together spent most of their careers playing with either Shanahan, Hull, or Holmstrom, none of whom were easily pushed around.

Basically, Crymson, I agree, pretty much completely. (Though I will say: Nyquist's wheels might make things interesting).

Ideally, Z and D have a Holmstrom, or a big bad body, to work with. Unfortuately, Holmstrom was very much one-of-a-kind, and we don't really have that crease-crashing power-forward either. I guess Bertuzzi makes the most sense, though I have serious doubts about his ability to own that spot for 82+ games. I do like the guy a lot, though, and want to see him succeed. So, howzabout...

L C R

Zetterberg Datsyuk Bertuzzi

Franzen Weiss Alfredsson

Nyquist Andersson Tatar

Miller Emmerton Abdelkader

(I have no faith that Helm's going to be ready to go. I firmly believe he'll start on LTIR.)

A few points.

1. I'd like to see 3 strong scoring lines with 1 shut down line.

2. Sammy is probably going to play whether people like it or not.

3. Strongest players should play center if available. Just because you center the 3rd line doesn't mean you're getting third line minutes.

4. How can you not start out with some kind of form of a Swedish 5 with Olympics upcoming?

Nyquist Zetterberg Alfredsson

Franzen Datsyuk Bertuzzi

Tatar Weiss Samuelsson

Abdelkader Helm/Andersson Tootoo/Miller

Kronwall Ericsson

Kindl Dekeyser

Smith Quincey

Like I said, Nyquist could be a great addition to z & D for certain matchups. But during the playoffs Nyquist would probably get bumped for a more physical player like Abby or Healthy Bert, Similar to Saad getting bumped for Bickell

With Berts vision and passing skills and the attention he still commands on the ice I can see Hank having a great year production wise with he and Datsyuk.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg are both well known for their grunt work all over the ice, however to fit your model of player for this role how about Datsyuk Zetterberg Tatar

....Tatar is amazing around the net and could be holmer with sick skill and again line porn does come to mind (no pun intended)

So let's be honest... Helm is not going to be ready to start the season now that he pulled his groin. So.. here's my new lines:

I really don't like emmerton, I don't think he brings any pluses to this team (no negatives also he's just kinda there) so I will create any situation where he gets bumped off this team instead of eaves or tootoo. So if I were the coach I would try this for a few games

Nyquist Z Alfie

Franzen Pav Abby

Tatar, Weiss, Bert

Miller, Andy, Tootoo

Eaves/Sammy

Kron, Big Rig

Kindl, Danny Deke

Smith, Quincy

Put Helm on LTIR until he is absolutely game ready. Waive Emmerton. And then wait until helm's absolutely ready to solve the one to many forwards problem.

Per Khan lines at camp:

Z, Dats, Abby

Frazen, Weiss, Alfie

Nyquist, Andy, Bert

Miller Emmerton Eaves

Sammy Glendening Tootoo

Jurco, Sheahan, Tatar

looks like tatar is pretty low on the depth chart

i wonder what tatar did to piss off babs

good to see jurco getting some work in though!

How is playing on what's going to be the 2nd line on Team Lindsay mean that he's done something to piss Babs off?

Edit: Full roster/pairings here http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/3203965/Camp_Lines.jpg

As you can see, there's only 1 training camp team that has two current NHL roster centers in their line-up, being Team Howe w/ Weiss & Emmerton centering the top two lines.
