Yeah I just noticed that as well. Didn't realize that was the way everyone ranks it. And yeah, they should definitely go by either Golds, or overall medal count. IMHO.

I think they should go by overall medals imo. I understand Gold's are where it's at, but the Olympics are about winning the most medals, and USA and Norway should both be above Canada, and Germany should be below.

lol all you can do is laugh sometimes on this board regarding certains things.

By no means a scientific study, but I've noticed that most US media goes by total medal count, whereas the international media goes by Gold. Thinking back, I remember us doing that in the past... Not sure when it changed. Odd.

I WILL NOT WARN ANYONE AGAIN. THE NEXT PERSON TO ACT LIKE A SO-AND-SO AND/OR HAVE POSTS DELETED WILL BE BANNED FROM THE OLYMPIC THREAD(S) FOR THE DURATION OF THE GAMES OR SUSPENDED FROM THE BOARDS FOR 30 DAYS - YOUR CHOICE.

You guys are going to give poor Vladdy a heart attack.

It really is like the metric system all over again. lol

I think they should have a point system. 4 points for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze. Here is what the leaders would look like:

1. Germany (33 points)

2. Canada, USA & Norway tied (28)

5. Netherlands (27)

6. Switzerland (23)

ya'll getting your excuses ready pretty early. Canada winning gold 3 of the last 4 olympics

Ha that's what I was thinking. Laying a nice foundation of excuses to fall back on.

I personally can't wait to see some of the top teams finally facing each other. US/Russia is going to be a great game despite it's start time.

I thought I read on here that Putin will be attending the game. I wonder how much of an affect on the Russian players it will have? Probably not any more than actually playing in your own country in front of your fans but still, the president showing up too?

I really hope 'Murica crushes them. It's going to be a great game, I can't wait to watch it.

Pretty gangsta way of wearing a helmet.

But wait...there's more.

That one is so sexy it makes my balls pulsate.

Not sure what he is doing lol.

All the bars in Toronto were booked a month before the Olympics started. I'm starting to think people don't work anymore.

Toronto's mayor apparently wanted bars open at 7 am for the olympics. As if Canadians need to start drinking at breakfast, and with the crackhead mayor nonetheless.

A final reminder: Keep the banter civil, everyone, and within the forum rules. There have already been more than enough flame wars edited out of this thread, the next one will result in suspensions for all involved. If you're not sure your post is acceptable then don't bother posting it.

Keep the forums a place inviting for all nationalities. The mods, and I, are indiscriminate when it comes to enforcing the forum rules. Implying that your place of citizenship has any bearing on how discipline is handed out is a quick way to make sure you're the first one to get reprimanded.

As you (civilly) were.

Really looking forward to the USA vs. Russia game tomorrow morning. I expect the atmosphere will be incredible and think the Americans will win it in a close one.

As a Canadian fan, I hope Babcock throws Jonny T on the top line next to Crosby on Sunday. I think he can play the role Stamkos would have played. The Carter Toews Marleau line was great today and I really liked how Duchene played with Getzlaf and Perry. I don't like breaking up the 4th line of Benn Bergeron Tavares since they have been very good but I think Nash would do the job.

Tavares Crosby St. Louis

Carter Toews Marleau

Duchene Getzlaf Perry

Benn Bergeron Nash

Extra: Kunitz

Scratch: Sharp

Slovakia played a terrible game, Tatar and Jurco included, and lost 3-1 to a solid Slovenian team with a Kopitar in beast mode.

Jurco got the lone Slovakian goal with only seconds left of the game, meaning that after 2 games the only slovak players to have scored are Tatar and Jurco. They are not enough to make this team a threat though, and I expect them to be eliminated in the qualification round. Slovenia on the other hand could be the surprise team of the tournament and I wouldn't want to face them in a quarterfinals.

I couldn't watch it since NBCSP seems to be the only channel only showing blurred colored bars for some reason (it better work by 7:30 or I'll be pissed and I'll... I'll complain!), so I switched over to the women's SWE/FIN game which was really good.

From an outside view I'm really looking forward to the game Russia - USA. It will be far the best one of in the RR I think Americas speed is too much to handle for the Russian defense, but Russias top 6 is scary good.

Finland will be Canadas first test tomorrow so far I've been impressed by Weber, Doughty, Carter and I really thought Duchene played a great game against the Austrians. Their captain Vanek should learn a thing or two from Kopitar yeah it's not easy to be the guy on a weak team, the best player needs to be your best player.

Crosbys line still isn't working surprise surprise ...Kunitz on the big ice doesn't work I would try MSL on Crosbys wing.

Sweden is now in a really tough spot, the defense wasn't good to begin with and now their top 6 has to find a way to replace Z.

I thought Slovakia looked surprisingly bad as well, but if I understand the format of this tournament I think both teams will end up playing in the qualification round and I wouldn't be willing to bet on either.

Only 4 teams don't play in the qualification round and Sweden has already locked up one of those spots, the Winner of todays game between Russia and the US will take another and Sunday's game between Canada and Finland will decide another with the 4th being decided by goal differential.
