I'd go with 5c or 5s as it features the new screen aspect ratio plus LTE. It's a much more modern phone than the 4S. The 5c is basically an iPhone 5 with a plastic case (infinitely nicer than you would think when you hear the word "plastic"), a slightly bigger battery and a better front camera. I've had the 5 and the 5s and while I love my 5s, the 5 was a great phone and plenty capable. The 5s has the Touch ID which is great and the camera is definitely better. As for speed though, these phones are getting so fast that the difference between the 5/5c and 5s, while certainly measurable and at times noticeable, is not as big of a deal as it was in years past. It shouldn't be too hard to find a 5c for $50, and I'd say it's well worth the money over the free 4S. If you feel like splurging on a 5s, it's certainly a great phone as well. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any more specific questions and I'll do my best to answer them or point you in the right direction.

Definitely not 4S. I work for AT&T, and I see a lot of people complaining about how slow the 4S is now with iOS 7 running on it. Also, the 4S only comes in 8gb now for free. Just go with the 5C. It's a great phone, and like gcom said, the difference between that and the 5S isn't super noticeable. The 5S has a better camera, a much faster processor, and Touch ID.

Cheers!

Thanks for the input! I had pretty much decided against the 4 already. The 5S is certainly sexier than the C. I'm still waffling, but your input helps. gcom, I will certainly take you up on your offer to PM you if I think of something specific to ask. Thanks!
