All this talk about iron hook having a deal with brynas; has it occured to anyone that it was leverage to force the wings to do something like this? Honestly, I'm not sure how I would handle it if was a GM. There is definitely something to be said about not getting bullied at the negotiating table, but I'm not sure. Kenny has a better idea of iron hook's true intentions than any of us. However, if iron hook plays a single game for the preds, holland has to go.

True that Ferraro and a third would have been better, but that last bit about haunting us for years is a little bombastic, isn't it? I don't spend any time watching prospects in the minors, so I'm not well-informed on jarnkrok's talent...but is he really that good? It just seems like lots of people are ready to jump off the ledge right now - I know it's an accumulation of Holland's inactivity, but still. It's one trade.

True.

But if he does stay and he does become the player he was projected to be, then I'd still say this will be a trade we look back on and wonder wtf Holland was thinking.

When I write it out like that, I guess those are some big "if"s, so I suppose you're right.

Hey, quit bullying me already, I'm overreacting to a trade I don't like over here!

So....am I outraged that we lost Calle Jarnkrock in a trade today...not really....in fact, I think looking at all of our young talent losing a soft Euro with the proverbial "great hands", who has hinted that he wants to go home to Sweden and play, is actually a decent price to play for a veteran like Legwand.

True, but you have to consider that we most likley won't resign Legwand. Not with Z,Dats and Weiss still on the roster. So its not Jarnkrok for a rental it's Jankrok for a rental for 20 games. So if everything is fine with Jankrok I'd still consider it overpayment.

I am convinced that people here are more pissed off that Holland didn't trade scraps to get legit talent. No team wants our crap for solid NHL players.

Here is a hint people.....

You have to give up talent to get talent.

Well we got s*** and gave up possible stars...

While I agree many of us overrate our own prospects, Jarnkrok is the best center prospect in our entire system.

Unless he's going to Sweden for sure next year, I don't think it really matters what Legwand does or not. We should have been able to get him with another prospect instead.

Wow, really? I think Sheahan is much better to be honest. Then we have guys that haven't even made it to the AHL to consider that have a much better upside than him.

Not saying he's going to have a surge of offense, but he is a former 1st round 2nd overall pick that has played for a not so great Predators team. Consider his point totals over the years with the offense he has around him. Playing on line with who, Craig Smith and Gabriel Bourque this year and still managing 40 points?

I honestly like his chances of putting up mildly better numbers here with guys like Nyquist and Franzen on his line and eventually one of two world class players. If you consider the offensive weapons Nashville has had over the years, it's tough to really name one outside of Weber.

I hope he surprises people and strings together some good offensive numbers so people can relax and see how much Legwand can actually contribute here.

Have anything to backup that statement and continue the discussion or you going to keep talking out of your ass?

IMHO, Legwand is a proven NHL player, and not crap. Maybe you could explain why you consider Legwand to be crap.

Ok, I'm reading all of this trade bashing. Can someone tell me exactly what Jarnkrok has done on the NHL level that makes this so outraging? He's 3rd on the Griffs in points. Yes, he shows some promise...it get it. I get the "young talent", "ton of potential" thing...but has anyone looked at our current roster?? We are extremely heavy on really young guys. Our brass has said (and done well with for the most part) the theory on experienced players and their being counted on to perform in the playoffs. We knew if we wanted to get any player today, we would have to give up a piece of our young talent.

I think a big factor on whether this was a terrible move or not hinges on where Legwand re-signs in the offseason.

I think people generally overrate our prospects here, but if this really is just a 20 game rental then Holland sure gave up a lot.

Why would we want him to resign, another Weiss are you kidding me. What you see in legwand?

Actually, this year, you didnt. A 2nd and Collberg for Vanek, mid level picks for Penner, Robidas, Fasth, Hemsky, etc. Holland offered to pay full price (arguably more) at a clearance rack.

I don't get this line of thinking at all. if Callie made it clear he wasn't going to stay in the AHL next year then why keep him? It's no different than selling an UFA today. Jarnkrok didn't wanna be in GR and the brass didn't think he could play in Detroit at this stage in his career apparently. So what if he plays in Nashville? At least we got SOMETHING for him rather than just watching him leave on a place to Sweden.

Guest fat guy in a maltby jersey

jarkrok probably saw the way nyquist and tatar were treated, and decided he wasn't up for it.

why not force a trade? he can be in another NHL team's lineup this year, or next year at the latest - as opposed to 4 years from now.

He's a scrub hopefully he doesn't make it to detroit Uh, what? That scrub has more points than anyone on the Wings not named Zetterberg. And it's not like he's got a ton of help in Nashville.
If we wouldn't all be injured he would stay in Nashville.....

And it might have been worst trade of the day

Let's have a look at the positives of this trade though:

1. Legwand has 40 points in 60 games under Barry Trotz's Nashville system

2. Legwand waived his NTC to come here, has a place here, so chances are he re-signs here (hopefully for a good cap hit)

3. Our centre depth is ridiculous, and will be for at least another 4-5 years (D,Z, Legwand, Weiss, Helm, Sheahan, Andy, Glendening) which made Jarnkrok expendable (Babcock would have none of that attitude)

4. Legwand has managed to stay relatively healthy most of his career, whereas our other centres are made of glass right now

5. He's got great speed and is a decent 2 way centre (you can't play in Nashville if you're not a 2 way player)

All in all, Legwand makes our team look much, much better. He gives us a chance at the playoffs, especially since Datsyuk is now out for three weeks and Helm is out. Andersson as our 1C for one game is one game too many. On another note, I absolutely love Sheahan and his line. Their shifts are easily our most exciting shifts each game.

If they resign Legwand and everyone is healthy they will have 7 centers.

Zetterberg (>30)

Datsyuk (>30)

Weiss (>30)

Helm

Andersson

Legwand (>30)

Sheahan

Now I know I only have a minor in math, but I believe you can't have 7 players in 4 spots.

People are seriously rage quitting this team over a deadline deal involving a prospect that may bolt to Sweden and a jobber that requested a trade in order to get some playing time under his belt so he can get a contract next year?

Are these the same people that threatened to rage quit the team if Kenny *didn't* make a trade this year?

Not to be a *****, but I totally get why fans of other teams hate red wings fans. Some of the posts I've read today compared with posts leading up to the deadline are ridiculous.

Do I think Kenny overpaid? Probably, but I'm under NO illusions that I could possibly know how to do his job better than he does.

Forgive me for whining about whining, but DAMN.

This is so short sighted. Actually Jarnkrok is out performing Sheahans rookie AHL year and he actually has an excuse (moving from the big ice) to have a rough transition. Just because Sheahan is on the big club doesnt mean he's better. Sheahan is likely a third line player long term. If were lucky, he's somewhere between Abby and Mule. Jarnkrok has always been billed as a poor mans Zetterberg and has been playing against men since he was 17.

Jarnkrok wasn't making Detroit next year. Sheahan has passed him up obviously and Jarnkrok isn't a 4th line guy. Not his game.

So what if he plays for Nashville? He wasn't going to play for us. If he makes Nashville's club good for him, they are in a different conference. No harm.

I saw Jarnkrok last weekend vs Abbotsford Heat. He was everywhere including all over the scoresheet. However, he's no Nyquist or Tatar.

If we can resign Legwand, trade Weiss and...oh, hell, I don't know...

You guys are insane, to say he makes us much better lol.... Like I said before its because of injuries Holland brought leg wand..... I pray we don't resign him,,,, and if we miss the playoffs (we wont) I wanna still hear how it was a good trade

I disagree. Every prospect who was traded was considered to be a great prospect. Look at the Gaborik trade. The prospect there only led D1 in scoring, and has a great upside to him. All of that for a rental that has been injury prone. I could go on and on here, but here is the point....

Just because you don't recognize the player doesn't mean he was a scrub. You have to look at each player traded and make an honest assessment of their skill. No one got away with a steal.
