Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Feels kinda crappy to be hoping for a young kids career to be mediocre but I find myself doing it. LGW would be unbearable if he started lighting it up in the NHL

Nah, I hope he does well. Even if he becomes an all-star, it would still be a trade that needed to be done at the time. Legwand's importance to the team right now, was more than Jarnkrok's importance to our future, obviously our front office thinks that we have enough young talent(which I think we do, Nyquist/Tatar/Jurco/Sheahan/Pulkinnen/Mantha all look like they will be impact NHLers) that we could let go a promising prospect for a very good player right now. It's quite an achievement to become a point producing/defensive center like Legwand is, even if Jarnkrok becomes one, I'm confident we made the right move because we needed that kind of player now.

Again this has nothing to do with legwand I wanted us to get him .... Just think jarnkrok was too big a price to pay

Hope he's awesome .... It'll make us think twice before trading a top prospect

Ok understandable. Sorry I must have missed the posts where you were fine with Legwand. I only remember seeing the ones blasting about the trade. My bad.

I think the Wings have been pretty frugal with trading there prospects the last 4 years. You know that guys like Gus, Tatar, Jurco, Ouelette, Sproul, Mrazek, Ferraro, etc more than likely all have been asked for in possible deals yet the Wings never budged. Ten years ago half of those guys would have been traded. Especially with the Wings being a team in limbo the last four seasons where one big trade could have put them into the realm of a true contender. The Wings have really improved on holding there prospects and picks.

We been praising jarnkrok for yrs and had our scouts comparing him to zetterberg (time will tell if he comes to be anything close) and now that he finally starts putting up points in bunches we get rid of him .... Just think it makes no sense , I would of rather give Nashville 2nd rounders like Minnesota did for moulson

Think jarnkrok at the least could of been a key piece in a major deal for a top 4dman especially if he continued this tear in the ahl till the rest of the season

The thing that sticks out to me is that when he was drafted, one of the things that he needed to work on was creating space. Now he's 22, and still needs to learn how to create space. I would think that the Wings scouts don't think he'll get there, so they viewed him as expendable. And yes they said a bunch of good things about him. How many times do they publicly say "no, we don't think he'll do anything" about any guy? They always talk about what they like, and phrase the stuff they don't like as "he just needs to work on X."

His scoring outburst finally came do I don't know what the rush was to trade him. , it's not like he's an old man and he's a good 2 way player so Babcock I'm sure would of had no problem putting him on the ice .... Anyways too late for that now just hope he becomes a star

Maybe they saw something they really didnt like the last couple years and sold him when they thought his stock would be highest. His recent breakout would have driven that up.

Because the Wings want to make the playoffs. Jarnkrok isn't ready for the NHL for Nashville, he certainly isn't good enough to make up for what the Wings are missing.

Just because some of us didn't want to to trade Jarnkrok, it doesn't mean we don't want Legwand. I'm really happy Legwand is here, but would've rather had another prospect involved in the deal.

Realistically, I don't think Jarnkrok is going to be a star player or anything. But I think Jarnkrok he has the potential to be a Filppula-esque player. He was worth hanging onto or trading for a bigger piece IMO (especially since just last year we refused to involve him in trade talks involving Iginla, Nash, Bouwmeester, etc.). In the end, we probably could have gotten Legwand some other way.

They needed a player that could help us win now and Holland felt that Legwand was the best available player. He went out and got him. Yes, it sucks to see Jarnkrok go, especially since he was pretty much untouchable last year (Sheahan, Andersson and Glendening obviously made him expendable this year). I am upset to see Jarnkrok go but I am also excited to see Legwand here and helping already. I don't like this Legwand now vs Jarnkrok in the future. It is unfair, right now Legwand is far better suited to help this organization make the playoffs than Jarnkrok.

If Jarnkrok goes onto be a star in this league then so be it but I am comfortable with our depth at centre and realize that the trade was made because Holland needed a proven NHL centreman who fit the Wings system.

No sense in getting all bent out of shape, its done. Lets move on and be happy that Legwand is making contributions for the Wings right now.

Hope he turns out to be a star for you guys ... It'll make us think twice before we make a trade .... Goodluck! ..... Weber jones forsberg jarnkrok hornqvist future ppl line

so, when Holland doesn't pull the trigger on a trade cause the price is too high, everyone criticizes him for not making any moves, and that he shouldn't be afraid to trade a couple prospects for proven roster players. When he does exactly that everyone gets mad that he trade a prospect. Do you really think any gm would trade a top 6 center for ferraro or emmerton? we were lucky to dump eaves on them in the trade. Legwand has been very good in his first two games as a wing, and judging by interviews he has really been enjoying playing with goose and mule, sorry but we needed a center who could produce in the nhl now, and I am happy that Holland pulled the trigger, we needed a guy like legwand, I like the way he plays

Also, another point...in trade deadlines past, I think it would have been appropriate to pay a premium (Jarnkrok + 2nd/3rd) for a pending UFA like Legwand.

However, this trade deadline, the prices were relatively low. In that sense, we overpaid compared to other teams--especially since Legwand had a NTC and obviously wanted to come here.

Nothing against legwand .... We could of got more than him if we threw In jarnkrok in a package deal ... Still think we could of had legwand without giving up jarnkrok or another top prospect ....my opinion

No point in trying to explain it to him, he's going to dwell on this trade for another 8 months. Who cares, Jarnkrok is gone time to move on.

The price was based on our needs. The preds knew that we needed a center desperately. You can't really base it on the other prices around the league.

Side note:I remember when the wings traded ville leino, and how high he was regarded in the wings organization at the time. They are just prospects, they come and go.

Ya the price was a bit steep, but so far it's paid off, and not all gms are as dumb as Gillis, snow, and Murray. Abd considering legwand was the only center available he was our only option unless we wanted to pay through the roof for Kessler. Poile knew this and smartly out waited Holland.

Again like legwand , wanted him here .... But if I heard we didn't get him cause it would of cost jarnkrok I wouldn't of been upset .... And yes legwand was a top 6 guy in Nashville on a good team he'd be a Great number 3 center , in a perfect scenario he'd be our 3rd center

And maybe we couldn't of gotten him for Ferraro but I think 2 2nds and eaves would of made it happen

How do we know what Holland was offering. They wanted a center to replace the center they lost, he could have said to Holland, it's jarnkrok or nothing

Exactly. Trades take two sides, if Poile wasn't interested in anything but Jarnkrok then that's exactly what you give up.

So glad some people on here are not GM's.

I doubt that this package was the initial offer. If I was Nashville, I'd want Tatar, Nyquist, or Jurco before I asked for Jarnkrok.

This is probably exactly how the talks started.

Like I said I would of called his bluff and if they said no I just wouldn't of done the deal and I'd try my luck July 1 .... But hey that's just me

Trade deadline day is all a game of chicken

Can someone please list these teams that have Legwand caliber players as their number 3 centers? How is Legwand a number 3 center? Where in the world do you people come up with these conclusions..... Does anyone have any idea what a number 3 center looks like on 98% of the NHL teams? Who has a number 3 center anywhere close to Legwand? I guess maybe the Sharks if they use Pavelski as their 3, which I don't seem them do very often.

Legwands just a number 3 huh? I would say he is one of the better number twos in the league and capable of holding down a first line. Which hmmm, is exactly what we needed isn't it? I don't know of to many teams that have an Alfredsson, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Nyquist, AND a Legwand plus a Tatar a Helm and a Weiss who cannot be ruled out. I would say we have a really good team if we are healthy. Like extremely good. We have eight guys who would all land at least somewhere in the top 6 best forwards on pretty much any team. Let's all wine about how bad our team sucks some more

Want to know who is a number 3? Helm is he is a very good number 3 in this league, and Legwand is a much better hockey player.

Not if your boss told you that you needed to get a deal done to shore up the center spot because the priority was making the playoffs.
