Legwand
"He currently holds virtually every franchise record for the Predators, including most games played, goals, assists, and points."
Sounds a lot like that one Weiss guy

He was 44 games away from playing his 1,000 as a nashville predator,Most of y'all aren't happy about this trade, but think about the preds fans feel,This guy was our very first draft in 1998,played 15 seasons for us and not once could we give him the gift that every hockey player dreams about:Winning a Stanley Cup

why are you here spewing bs? Honestly.... The preds and polie knows their the winners of the deal... Nashville fans who want legwand either don't know hockey or got attached to their mediocre 1st line center... They got way more back from the wings than anyone else would CONSIDER offering.... Unless they were a cup contender need a veteran 2nd/3rd liner...

I can see it now .... Hanging out with friends at a summer BBQ .... Handed a beer .... Take a chug ... Remember janrkrok is no longer a redwings..... F*ckkkkkkkkkk! Whips beer lmao

Seriously though this trade is gonna hurt for a while ... Total stupidity on Hollands part .... To bad he didn't trade himself for Jim nill

People said this same things about Mathius when Holland traded for Bertuzzi initially (who coincidentally was about the same age/place in career as Legwand now) and we know who got the better end of that deal...

Just to put this trade in perspective as to why some of us don't like it, here's some examples of trades where it makes it seem like the Wings got fleeced:

Moulson and McCormick for Torrey Mitchell and 2 2nd round picks.

Vanek and a 5th for Colberg and a 2nd

Meszaros for a 3rd

Gaborik for Frattin a 2nd and a 3rd

Hemsky for a 3rd and 5th

Rundblad and Brisebois for a 2nd

Luongo and Anthony for Markstrom and Matthias

Robidas for a 4th

Penner for a 4th

So to be fair, I'd say Legwand (contract expires this summer = currently a rental) for Eaves a 3rd and instead of Jarnkrok a 5th sounds like a deal ANY OTHER TEAM GOT TODAY!

Am I happy we got Legwand? Yes.  Am I ok with what we gave up? No cause of Jarnkrok.

Only saving grace apparently after venting to my dad, apparently Jarnkrok was threatening to go to Sweden to play again per Malik, and getting fleeced in a trade by the Preds, we may have a future trade partner in them and he seems to think something big may be coming in the near future, possibly draft and that we're getting some centre from Russia.

Didn't realize Legwand becomes our 2nd in scoring, at first I was angry. But I've calmed down and think this will help us into the playoffs as intended. Sucks to lose Jarnkrok but what can you do,  Glad the speculation is done and we can watch the wings get to work.

LOL, everyone from Malik to LGW posters here trying to acting like management must know Jarnkrok is bolting or something to justify this crap trade. Then Wings Management says that is not the case at all.

now what?

The Wings cant say they knew about it. If they admit they dealt a player that was definitely bolting they would be sanctioned by the league for not negotiating in good faith. It would also prevent other teams from ever trusting the Wings in any deals from then on. They will never admit they knew anything.

I don't hate this deal, but I don't love it either. I've always been a big fan of Legwand and I hope he comes here and makes all of you eat crow. Sure it sucks to lose a prospect like Jarnkrok, but he is not all everyone is making him out to be. We're fine on C for the foreseeable future and honestly we can draft a C the puts up the numbers he was at a younger age with a bigger frame. I was excited about him, sure. But Legwand fills a need we have now and makes our forward corps incredibly deep. The more I step back and rationally think about this, the more expendable and replaceable Jarnkrok seems and the more I realize we needed a good C now. If Legwand can play wing when we get some guys back and resigns, I think I like this deal.

Uh, if he had a deal on the table with SEL every team would have known about it, the IIHF has a transfer agreement for this very reason.

It's trades like this where nay-sayers really have the upper hand, which is to be expected.

Legwand has an established track record as a solid, if un-spectacular two-way forward with a good size and speed combination.  He's 33, so he won't get better.  But he's good, and good is always...good.

Järnkrok, meanwhile, is 22 years old and was ranked #1 in the organization last season.  Now, he clearly is not the Red Wings top prospect anymore, but the absence of any real barometer to judge him by allows us all to assume we just passed up a future All Star because someone said he might just be one day.  And who really cares if it never happens, because what matters is today and today you can predict Järnkrok will be an All Star and nobody can convince you otherwise because you have the benefit of time, hype, and that elusive old friend "upside" on your side.

Ah, well.  It's fun to argue about, that's for sure.

This is absolutely right on. I don't understand why Jarnkrok was part of the deal. Eaves plus the pick is fine....maybe even then a slight over-payment. But why not just splurge and throw in a talented prospect, too? Here, take a few more picks while you're at it as well....

Holland is an average GM without his braintrust, and he just made an average trade. I'm not going to whine about it anymore, but average hasn't been in the Red Wings vocabulary for such a long time that this is difficult to take.

Our center depth is decent now, but in 4 -5 years?

Dats might be done, Zetterberg is going to be decidedly on the back-end of his career, as is Legwand.

Andersson is...passable I guess, Glendening is not a real hockey player. Helm can't seem to put more than 5 games together, and Weiss, almost a season into his DRW career, hasn't shown is anything at all.

It's like a lot of names, but really not a great group, IMO.

Im sorry, but seriously?????

No your just narrow minded looking st how this MIGHT get us into the playoffs.... If we would've clinched or something then okay... But its not even deffinite we will make playoffs and too give up a promising prospect and a pick is blasphemous

My post was not narrow minded, in fact I be;lieve I am one of the few narrow minded people on here right now, I am actually looking at this whole thing ogically, top 4 centers are injured, you need to do something, or else your 4th line center becomes your first line center, not good. Jarnkrok is a prospect, maybe he will turn out, maybe he will jet to europe, who knows. All I know is we got a good player to help us make the playoffs while datsyuk weiss and Z get better, and maybe we can make a push for the cup when they do. When did we as Red Wings fans start wanting to tank a season in order to keep a prospect?

Everyone hoots and hollers for Kenny to shake things up and make a trade, and trade one of our prospects cause we have so many, and when he actually does, everyone cries bloody murder. Sorry but they wanted a center to replace a center, unfortunately that meant giving up a good p[rospect, obviously Kenny tried not to, thats why the deal didnt go in till the last minute.

Now THIS is the Let's Go Wings I know and love. The panic. The justifications. The embiggened anti or pro Holland posters posting, the reasoning, the speculation.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, now that's more like it.

And for what it's worth, when it comes to Jarnkrok there aren't a whole lot of guys making grand careers for themselves in the NHL that the Wings gave up on/got rid of/traded at his age. There have been a couple but in assessing talent the Wings aren't exactly the Islanders either...

To give away a promising center in exchange for an aging center who provides no exceptional scoring, we coulda called up Jarnkrok and see what he'd

You gotta source to validate what you're saying there? like, in the CBA or something? To me, management having an idea of their players futures doesn't mean much. I really don't know either way and I don't want to google for it. You're not just making stuff up to make this trade look a little better right?

Not really. Both were drafted in the same general position. Mathius was expected to be the Wings big scoring power forward of the future. Both were projected to be top 6 for the Wings.

I'm thinking the Wings wouldn't make the trade and then turn around and go to the press and say, hey, we've known for months this guy really wants to go back to Sweden.  That's the reason we traded him.  It would make no sense to do that.

It was a bad trade...if you/we have to talk yourself into why it could or may eventually be an OK deal, it was a bad deal...period. The list of those deals, plus knowing that Legwand had the NTC and the Preds had no leverage...its almost unfathomable that such a respected GM dropped the ball so much. BTW...anybody ever seen interviews with our Asst GM Ryan Martin? Yhat dude is a goof who looks and sounds like he knows nothing about hockey except for what other people have told him. He looks like he'd piss himself if he ever had to negotiate with a Burke type.

Yes, really. Jarnkrok has been on our top prospects longer and higher than Matthias was...he's one of our most touted prospects that ive witnessed since '96.
