matt198913 932 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 I looked at this schedule and it is brutal. Multiple meetings with Montreal, Toronto, Pittsburgh, and Minnesota. However it's conceivable that we can get Datsyuk back in 3 weeks Weiss and Helm next week and hopefully not lose anyone else and make the palyoffs. I looked at every game and came up with this for their final stretch. I think they will go 14-3-4. I just see them having to battle every night. Huge match ups against divisional foes down the road. Win those and they are in. I said back in February that they would secure the second seed in the division. I didn't know Sochi would take us out this badly though. I believe they will finish with the first wild card spot and play Boston in the first round where anything can happen. How do you feel? I'm extremely optimistic but I can't help it, especially if Pav comes back for the final ten. I think they have a real shot.

wingsfan4795 552 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 You think 96 is the number this year? I think it will be lower, there's no way that many bubble teams kill it down the stretch
wings4thecup06 504 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 I believe in this team, and Legwand will help while our guys get healthy. 3 weeks rest for the Magic man should hopefully help. But honestly, it's one game at a time.
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 What's the point of making the playoffs. ? This team would be get absolutely grilled against Boston or Pittsburgh also now they need to look for a top center prospect in the upcoming. Draft.
matt198913 932 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 Honestly I do not think some of the teams ahead of us are that much better. You look at out shootout and ot losses 12. If that number is 6 we are tied for second in the division. This season has been just full of bad breaks. But ya play what you're dealt. I do think 96 points is the cut off though. It's going to be an unbelievable grind. 1 Motown4013 reacted to this
Wings10 300 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 The next 5 games will tell a lot..still have games in hand on almost everyone ,so these are must wins. Columbus,Toronto and Washington.. all have tough stretch of games coming up
Jericho613 74 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 I think the Wings will make the playoffs, there is just something about that magic switch they turn on. As long as we stay within reach. Whose to say that Montreal and Toronto don't start sliding, it can happen. Wings in the playoffs I guarantee it.
Shaman 713 Report post Posted March 5, 2014 Yeah, where they get beaten by Boston or Pittsburgh and Holland stays the course. They are far better off missing the playoffs, taking the top 14 pick, and taking a long look in the mirror.
Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted March 6, 2014 As long as they don't lose any more games in the last minute, I believe they make the playoffs and then some.
Nyquistfan14 489 Report post Posted March 6, 2014 If this team makes the playoffs and somehow and I mean miraculously get fully healthy I think they could upset a boston or Pittsburgh(I may get flamed for that). Hopefully Legwand can develop chemistry with nyquist and franzen. If Weiss comes back and plays well with Abby and alfy and then we get pavel, helm, and z back we are pretty stacked up front. Z- pavel- helm( perfect guy to retrieve pucks) Mule-Legwand- nyquist(big and fast) Abby-Weiss-alfy (could be a very solid line) Jurco-sheahan-Tatar (we've seen what they can do) I think that depth would maybe have the ability to take advantage of the penguins lack of depth up front. Every single line can score and the kid line could absolutely dominate other teams 4th lines. Just my 2 cents
amato 3,210 Report post Posted March 6, 2014 Everyone has spent a considerable amount of time in recent years talking about wanting the kids to get their chance.. now's that chance. It's up to their play to keep the streak alive. 1 FireCaptain reacted to this

Shaman 713 Report post Posted March 6, 2014 (edited) What's the point? To keep the streak alive on the way to thirty straight years. Yuck. This board is getting as bad as a Detroit Lion's board. "Let's tank the season for a better draft pick." Again, people keep talking about a playoff streak in a league where more teams make the playoffs than miss it. It's really not that special. Want something special? Once the Wings can start challenging the Habs for number of cups I will be really impressed. Edited March 6, 2014 by Shaman
Internet.Unknown 422 Report post Posted March 6, 2014 Such short memories people have! Last season when the playoffs were in doubt, some posters were rooting for a high draft pick instead of making the postseason. Then--whoops!--the Wings made the playoffs, won the a round, and took the Stanley Cup champs to a seven game series.

Yeah, and you're pretty short sighted to not see that once the Blackhawks started to play the Wings seriously it was over. After game 4 the the Wings scored 5 goals in 3 games, it wasn't as close as people like to pretend it was.
Internet.Unknown 422 Report post Posted March 6, 2014 Again, people keep talking about a playoff streak in a league where more teams make the playoffs than miss it. It's really not that special. Want something special? Once the Wings can start challenging the Habs for number of cups I will be really impressed. It isn't that special to YOU, maybe, but it is special to sports and to people who can objectively appreciate the historic nature of the record. No team in professional sports has made the playoffs for THREE DECADES straight. It's nigh impossible. Yet the Wings are closing in. I hope they break it. 2 Shinzaki and FireCaptain reacted to this

Okay, again in the NHL over 50% of the teams make the playoffs. To give you an idea how easy it is lets compare it to the NFL and MLB In the MLB there are 30 teams, 8 make the playoffs. Percent of teams that make it any given year: 26% In the NFL there are 32 teams, 12 teams make the playoffs. Percent of teams that make it any given year: 37.5 In the NHL has 30 teams, 16 make the playoffs. joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted March 6, 2014 I just want to make the playoffs truthfully. When fully healthy I think this team is much better than last years and they almost (should) have beaten the champs. With the young guys having a full year of being impactful players they will be much better heading into the playoffs.

Nope. They were and it played out that way. What I did say was that the Wings took them to a seven game series. It was exciting. It was fun. It was playoff hockey. I'll take 14 thrilling postseason games over an earlier trip to the draft day podium every year. Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions would be happy to have another "fan" who wants their team to lose in the hopes of acquiring a higher draft pick. 1 FireCaptain reacted to this

Yep, and in order to sell a few more beers, a few playoff tickets, the wings have jeopardized their future. On top of that they are not in a better position to win the Cups as they still haven't fixed their defense. Sorry if a meaningless streak is less important to me than the long term viability of the Wings as a team that that could win the Stanley Cup.

No team has ever made the playoffs for 30 years in a row, the NHL included. The Wings are 7 years away. Doesn't matter if "over 50% of the teams make the playoffs." It matters that no team has ever done it. No in any sport. Not in the history of the world. Keep rooting for your team to lose, though, that's what true fans do. 1 FireCaptain reacted to this

I'm happy the franchise has a commitment to make the playoffs. It's called a winning environment and we're not trying to take any short cuts to success 1 55fan reacted to this
