Like I said, have you seen him pass?  It might well be a bad thing.

But he will have someone behind him, which is all the boy needs.

Look what Brent Burns is doing over in SJ.  Goes to show that it CAN work.  Will it with Brenden?  Might find out tonight.

Smith seems like a good enough athlete to maybe be able to play forward, but I loathe putting defencemen
on offense midseason.

We are only 3 points out, I'd rather have Smith sit in the press box; then play 3-5 min at a position he's not familiar with.

Whatever man. Smith's passes are usually tape-to-tape.

Just ask Ryan Smyth.

now that is down right funny!

Hey maybe he gets un-tracked and is a better forward in the NHL then d-man.  If so we just got a decent sized body upfront and he isn't afraid to drop them though it's been FOREVER!

Never know might be the second coming of Shanny...I kid I kid

I plan on watching the great experiment and at least it gives LGW something to whine about!

Some videos of Smith talking about the move to forward and Ferraro.

"The leader must never close the gap between himself and the group. If he does, he is no longer what he must be. He must walk a tightrope between the consent he must win and the control he must exert."
Vince Lombardi

When asked who won, Babcock said, “Well it doesn’t really matter as long as you don’t lose. It’s like going bear hunting, you take a slow guy with you in case the bear is hungry.”

Even if Smith turns out to be better at forward, this just means even less depth at D *sigh*

I laughed, couldn't help it lol

Who is taking his spot on D? I know Ferraro was called up but I didn't notice any d-man called up from GR.

Then that's definitely a step backwards for the Wings blueline.

Yup.  Send Ferraro back down if you're not going to play him & call Ouellet up to take Smith's spot.

Why go through all that?  Just call up Callahan and leave Smith at his natural position.  This whole Smith to forward idea is gimmicky enough to get people interested, but at the end of the day it's still totally hairbrained.

I'm with you, the more I think about it the less I like it. Reminds me of several years ago when E was put at forward, he played very little and added nothing.

That too, though I imagine they'd like someone who at least has the possibility of scoring a goal.  Tootoo's not much help considering Babs hates him and will only play him about two and a half minutes a night.

Hey, maybe Smith is the #2 Center we've been lacking since Robert Lang left...

Babcock said he'll put Smith in Ericsson's spot on top D pairing with Kronwall. DeKeyser will stay with Quincey.

Babcock sure seems to like throwing the guy into the deep end.

Along with the remainder of our season if Smith doesn't wise up with the puck like...immediately.  Here's his chance to shine, and I sure hope he takes advantage of it.

When Smith was playing on the wing last night he looked defensive, but when he moved back on D; he looked more like a forward. What the hell is going on?
