Evgeny Kuznetsov

I know that im not the only person that thinks Kuznetsov is a very intresting player, so why don't start a thread?

Kuznetsov has FINNALY arrived to the NHL and the Capitals after almost 4 looong years.
He has done great in the WJC, and his KHL stats are similar to what Ovis and Bures stats where at the same age.

So? Did anyone watch the Pens/Caps game last night? How did he play? Will he be a established NHL player or will he return to the KHL in a few years?

His had 2 shots on goal and was +/- 0 after seeing about 10 minutes of ice time. He also got to see some time on the powerplay.

And also, can you compare him to some active or former NHL player?

he got 4th line time. They're easing him in. Hard to say anything about him yet. When he gets his shot at centering Ovi then we'll know.

Thinks he's better as a right wing. He has played about 50% of his carrer as a RW and 25% as a Center and LW. I doubt he will take Bäckströms spot.

Agreed, I meant more along the lines of when he's playing the top 6 with actual talent we'll know

If they are going to give him 4th line minutes they are not getting the best of Kuzia. He is the best when he is a real part of the team. Knowing Oates, Kuznetsov will be available for the right price soon. I would trade Mantha+ for him.

PS I followed his career closely. When something goes wrong, when game is on the line, when you are loosing the most important game of the season you put Kuznetsov on the ice. He usually find a way to score.

I'm sure the long term plan isn't to have him on the 4th line. They are just keeping the pressure off him and also avoiding relying too heavily on a rookie without disrupting team dynamics in the middle of a playoff push. He will work up the lineup soon.

10 minutes of icetime and three helpers! Watched the game last night, and he had a really great pass to Tom Wilson! He was selected to the first star of the game!

>To WSH: Dylan Larkin + Evgeny Svechnikov + 2nd round pick (Oilers 2021)
>To DET: Evgeny Kuznetsov + 1st round pick (2022)

Washington gets 1.7 mil in cap relief and a center 4 years younger in Larkin. For this swap we get a 1st rounder and throw in a 2nd plus the project Svechnikov.

As far as I'm aware there hasn't been a coke machine since Probert was around...It's likely that Kuznetsov will instantly take up the official position of Deputy Director within the  "Ministry of Schneef"...The Eagle Has Landed!

Why would a rebuilding team want to trade one center for another thats 4 years older?

For the 1st rounder.

The Caps could easily fall off a cliff next season. Pretty old squad. That pick could be a good one in a deep draft.

Plus Yzerman could flip Cokenoseup for more picks with salary retention.

Not happening. But not a crazy idea either.

I'd rather not delay the rebuild and waste years of Seider.

Seider will be 27 before (IF) this team's a powerhouse. I'd say a 2022 1st rounder is in line with this. Especially if that player were a forward.  Larkin will be 31.

Thank you, I included the 1st rounder for a reason. The Red Wings should be rewarded for upgrading in age and cap hit.

In my perspective I see it as a lateral move + a 1st rounder. Kuznetsov isn't gonna bring us a cup, but then again neither is Larkin. Squeezing a 1st outta that transaction is the lowkey goal.

Yes. But let's be a powerhouse when he is 27 and not just starting to make the playoffs. A '22 1st from the caps is likely a later first round pick. You can't trade Larkin (for a guy causing problems in Washington) in hopes they fall off the face of the earth next season. Terrible asset management. The odds of getting a player with that pick anywhere close to what Larkin is, is slim to none. A likely late first rounder is likely no more than a third line player. Not worth the risk.

Larkin is not the problem here. The lack of another top 6 center is. We'll get that in one of the next couple of drafts.

Larikin is nowhere near the caliber center that Kuznetsov is.

Sure Kuzy just turned 28 and has 4 years left on his contract. But all that means is we trade him at 31 after 3 years.

I agree that Larkin is nowhere near Kuznetsov. But due to the age thing, I see no scenario where this doesn't delay the rebuild. The fact that the Caps are also seem so urgent to get rid of him is also concerning. I guess I'm just not convinced the risk is worth the reward.

Now if it were clear Ovie wanted out or some s*** as well, maybe. But for now I still see that team as being too good next year to make that 1st high enough to be worth gambling on Larkin.

This. It's something Wings fans need to embrace or at least prepare for.

And obviously Yzerman sees things the same way. He literally just did this with the Mantha trade.

Yup. I like how you're thinking.

Larkin - Zadina - Hronek - Mantha - they're all just assets. They're good assets, but they're not so good they deserve special treatment. The ONLY player in our system that seems worthy of special handling is Seider.

If we can flip Mantha for Vrana and picks I'm for it. If we can flip Larkin for Kuznetsov and picks I'm for it. Anything and everyone (besides Seider) should be leveraged.

The Mantha trade made sense because the main player coming back was younger with similar production. The picks in this case are a bonus.

Larkin for Kuznetsov, far too much stock being put into that first round pick. Especially when the player coming back is problematic.

Also, Yzerman didn't name Larkin captain just to move him. Comparing Larkin to Mantha just doesn't make any sense. Mantha has a history of taking games off.

Having said that, if it were some 3-way trade where a contender wanted Kuznetsov at 50% of his cap hit and it led to us shipping Larkin to Washington and us getting their 1st and a promising young center from said contender, then sure. I'd be all for that. But I doubt a guy like Yzerman wants a guy like Kuznetsov anywhere near this roster.

I tend to agree about Kuznetzov.

I just look at what Colorado were able to achieve with the Duchene trade.............
