this team is severely overmatched.

no chance at the playoffs without D or Z.

Remove the top two players off any team and they will have problems winning games and playing consistently good hockey.

The playoff streak was doomed once Z had surgery. He's the heart and soul of the team. Probably could have willed them in again, but losing him was the backbreaker (no pun intended). Especially with all of the other injuries in addition to Hank's, it's just tough to overcome for a team that was going to be fighting for a playoff spot with even decent health.

It's not over yet, but things don't look promising at all.

All this season reinforces is how impressive the stretch run to get into the playoffs last year was. Howard was superb, and Z drove the bus. Now we're without Z, Howie is inconsistent and we're barely treading water. When we signed Alfie and Weiss in the summer I didn't predict this!

All these injuries to our forwards and our 100% healthy Defense blows it. We don't have our defensive forwards to cover for them anymore. That's a bottom of the league defensive core. Atleast Ericsson is paid like a top pairing defensemen.

No he isn't but Quincey is.

The lack of faith and support for our team in this forum is just insane. Just shows how spoiled we really are. The Wings have made the playoffs for as long as I have been a fan, and if they miss out this year, then I am not bailing on them. I fail to see why some here are willing to give up, bash the team, and insult the management. Support your team, through thick and thin. Its what supporting a team is all about.

As for the game tonight, the Blue Jackets should be commended. They came through with a win when they needed it.

As for the Wings, they have 18 more games to fight their way into the post season.

If we hadn't blown the first 20 games we'd be okay. Early season points were critical once again.

Those ugly stretches at home are really looking crucial now. I think a nine game winless streak and maybe another one of five games too. All of the OT/SO losses hurt too. Although, maybe those are just a glimpse that the team is indeed just not quite good enough to get it done.

No one is bailing on anything. I care about the Wings and the Lions probably too much in life, but this season the way it's gone is not going to end pleasantly. That's just the truth of the situation. I've never seen them miss the playoffs, but overcoming this many injuries when they already gave away so many points early in the year just isn't likely.

Dan Cleary deserves to end his career on a Cup contender.

Not on this s*** team.

You and I both know he's in the midst of negotiating a 3 year extension.

Leadership dude, can't be overlooked.

Where did anyone stop supporting the team or bail on them? We wouldn't be here if that was the case. There's a difference between giving up and realistically assessing the Red Wings current troublesome position.

i just cant see them putting a win or wins together without datsyuk back.

hopefully im wrong. but one thing i know theyre not cup contenders even fully healthy. so it will just be about keeping the streak alive

This team is a product. When you're not happy with a product you don't just suck it up and support it anyway. If you bought an iPhone and it gave you hemorrhoids you don't just say 'oh well, you have to be a fan of Apple and support the product good or bad".

Ya win some ya lose some. A couple of wins and we're back in the wild card. Playoff race is far from over.

Agreed. But this team hasn't won 3 in a row for about 3 months. "A couple of wins" is HARD for this team, and it's looking unlikely to get easier.

Columbus is a red-hot team and will probably keep climbing. So hopefully we can beat other teams and get into the playoffs somehow. Just seems like this is the year where we've had one bad break too many though.

Early season mis-management ruined what could have been a solid start and since then injuries have piled up. With Nyquist since Day 1, could we have had 2 points more? 4? 6 or even 10? All those OT and SO losses, maybe some of them would have been wins? We wasted time and it's catching up now.
