wings87 1,290 Report post Posted March 16, 2014 Aside from not shooting enough, my biggest issue with our PP are the entires. We've had a lot of success in the past with the drop pass on the entry, but that was when we had Dats and Z, with both of them injured Babs has been unwilling to adjust the entries into the zone. The players that the Wings have right know on the PP don't commend the same respect and therefore are not given the same space to enter the zone, after the drop pass, and with little space to maneuver they just lose the puck completely. The coaching staff has been stubborn to adjust the entries which has cost the team valuable PP time. Try the drop pass but if that doesn't work don't continue to do the same thing, mix it up a little; keep the opposing team on their toes. Shoot the puck in and go get it or carry it in, be creative, the Wings have become to predictable. Thanks for listening. End rant.
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted March 16, 2014 Talk about choosing a poor title for a thread. As far as our powerplay entry, we never dump the puck in. It's been that way for a long time because of the skill of the top players. Naturally, now they don't know what to do with those guys out.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted March 16, 2014 lol at thread title http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/03/red_wings_aim_to_improve_entri.htmlThis article pretty much sums up what you mentioned, Wings87. Babs saw it, the team saw it, and they've apparently been working on it this weekend. Groovy quote from Tatar: “We all know we got to be better on the power play,” Tomas Tatar said. “We practiced, tried to make some plays. Hopefully the breakouts work for us. We have to work way more. I think we have to put work before skill, just (get) a couple of retrievals; everyone has to battle to help each other.” The key from that was "work before skill". The Wings currently don't have the roster to out-skill many teams in the NHL, least of all the Chicago Blackhawks. They can outwork anyone if they want it badly enough, though. Changing it now.Edit: Can't find how to change title, can one of the Mods change the title to Power Play Entries. That'll make it sound more PC. Thanks for link, though I think they'll work on refining the puck drop entry instead of adding something new.
BottleOfSmoke 5,965 Report post Posted March 16, 2014 PP entries are usually pretty smooth as long as there's someone to grease the wheels up the middle. I mean honestly, they need a coach for this sort of thing? Men. *shakes head*
