The kids are pretty much used to being counted on and they consistently deliver. I just wonder if they still feel that way when datsyuk is playing.

I think so, and with Pav drawing the first pair d-men, the kids will feast on it.

You know, I was a believer longer than most that we'd still pull off making the playoffs, but when that last round of injuries hit, I was ready to throw in the towel. It was so bad it was to the point where the little part of me that even believed it was possible wondered if it was worth it to rush such a hurt group of guys back when we're just so physically beat up as a team. As in, mostly is it worth it to make the playoffs and get knocked out in the 1st or 2nd round even but have Datsyuk come back and hurt his knee more or have Zetterberg not have more time to properly get healthy? But either way, it was still just so bad that the idea that we'd really find a way to pull it off just seemed exceedingly unlikely, especially with Howard continuing to struggle.

But s***.

Howard might've had his best game of the season tonight and it was just a big, big, big "best game of the season" by any measure for this team. I've never bought into the idea of building off a couple wins this season because his better play this year was still below the level we know he's capable of. But this is the kind of game at the point in the season that really has potential to keep him going. This was a hard fought win and big statement for Howard at the right time for him to start making big statements.

And to be totally honest, there's still a part of me that's really worried about Datsyuk and Zetterberg coming back this year given the apparent severity of their injuries, but there are so many good things happening with this team that it's hard to not be excited. I've long believed that a relatively healthy version of this team is fully capable of making a stink in the playoffs, and in many ways, I believe that all the more so now.

Any way it goes, what these kids and the few old guys not hurt are doing is really, truly special and it's been a hell of a lot of fun to watch. Miss the playoffs or make the playoffs, go far in the playoffs or get swept in the first round, again, any way it goes, what this team is doing right now is special, and they should all be incredibly proud of the way they're beating every reasonable odd to make this push.

Howard won us this game. Needs to be said.

This. ...and some clutch scoring from some youngsters.

I have to ask... was Quincey on the ice for the last few minutes? 'cuz I think he might have been.

Definitely. I love when Tatar goes into oh-f***-this-s*** mode. He and Nyquist = Wings for life.

Quincey - I think he was! Good on him. Good on everyone.

This team, wow. They had no business winning tonight and they have no business being in a playoff spot, but they continue to do the improbable. What a job by Babs and his coaching staff to keep this group competing through everything that has gone against them.

I can't really add anything else about the kids that hasn't already been said. Never thought I would have so much fun watching the Red Wings play without Z and Pavel.

Jimmy stole this game, though. The Bruins dominated the first 40 minutes. Jimmy kept the Wings in it and then the kids did their thing. Felt like a playoff game at the end -- I was a nervous wreck in the last couple minutes. Nice to have a little practice before the real deal, which is even more likely after those two points tonight.

What a game! I'm glad that fanboy Edzo had to sit and watch the Red Wings win too.

Tatar has been awesome lately.

Goose is always awesome.

And the nicest thing I can say about Franzen, is that he was at the game.

You know he was sitting up there pouting, getting a back rub and eating a big slice of cake on a paper plate to feed his depression.

I picture an epic line with Datsyuk feeding nyquist the puck, then I must wake up cause my head is going to explode from just thinking about that scenario

I got an image of Nyquist sitting in a high chair and Pav feeding him the puck. Open up here comes the spaceship...
