Play em or rest em?

Coreau is up because Gustavsson is banged up (again... surprise, surprise). Can't rest Howard if Gustavsson can't go, Coreau is an ECHL goalie. Datsyuk needs to play and get in as good of game shape as possible. Sitting Kronwall would mean they'd have to recall a defenseman, which they could do, but it would really weaken their D for that game. Bertuzzi could sub in for Alfredsson.

I agree with Babcock. This team has had issues with consistency all year long. Confidence is relatively high right now as the boys made it in, so keep it rolling. You can't iron out the kinks in the last 2 games ready for the playoffs with half the top guys out.

If Detroit loses and Columbus wins tonight, the Wings will be locked into the #8 spot. If that happens, give a few key guys a rest vs. St. Louis on Sunday.

I understand the getting into sync thought. But Datsyuk is playing on one leg. His knee needs surgery as he mentioned last week. No need to risk him on meaningless games. But I am not the coach. babs will play everyone and someone WILL go down. Watch and see...... (I hope I am wrong BTW)

I don't want anyone rested. Not only can we still move up in the standings, but we also don't wanna lose the edge we've been playing with. Gotta stay sharp and prepared for the big dance. Sitting some of our top guys will only mess with what we've been doing lately. Not to mention Pav hasn't been back for very long, so he's definitely gonna need these next few games to help get him back to full speed. Especially with the intensity of playoff hockey around the corner. So hopefully Babs will do the smart thing and keep the lineup as is.

He is not gonna get in game shape in the press box. He needs these last 2 games more than anybody.

To put it bluntly, the team knocked out Anaheim last year because they were in playoff mode to end the season. They went up 3-1 vs Chicago for the same reason, as Chicago absolutely coasted through the first round last year. If the Wings rest guys now, we'll likely draw Boston and get killed in 5 games. They need to keep the intensity up these last 2 games to have a prayer in the first round. Yeah, guys will be tired. But we get through round 1 and we get backup in Hank and E.

Why are people saying that these last 2 games don't matter? I think the Red Wings would much rather play the Pens than the Bruins.

I have to agree with the play Dats thing, not sure I have opinion on others. Dats just looks a little slow out there still, I am sure he wanted to help the team really bad make sure they got in, but seems like he is still afraid to push because of the injury.

He has been steadily improving each game. I figure come game 1 of the playoffs we will get the leaving it all on the ice pav.

You have to play these guys. I get we had a lot of injuries but the young guys need the reps. I don't want to sit our key players the last 2 games and they come back out of sync. Had we won more games and clinched earlier I think it would be smart. But these guys have been in playoff mode for over a month now and there's no time to let up on the gas now.

I guess the players took things into their own hands last night. the whole damn team took the night off.

not really..it looked like they outplayed the canes, at least when you take into account how many empty net scoring chances they missed (Goose, Tats, Gator), but I agree that their intensity went down a notch, aside from the kid line
