ECQF - Series A - Bruins versus Red Wings

The series that we're all here for.

I think it goes long (6 or 7) and the Wings move on to the next round.

After stomping through the season, the Bruins only had 2 teams that they lost their season series' against and the Wings were one of them.

The X Factor is obviously Rask - but 'playoff style' Jimmy Howard can be quite the X Factor himself.

Just hope our offense doesn't go anemic - because as Pavel said, "We not score, is hard to win."

We always have been a "pretty" team shoot from the outside in the playoffs not going to the dirty areas. This team seems to be different whether its youthful enthusiasm or not, The kids are sticking their noses into the dirty areas and I think its forcing the vets to step up their game.

Win or lose this series I am excited to see what happens.

I hate that matchup but somebody had to play that beast. The Bruins are always taking it to another level come playoffs they now know exactly what to expect from the Wings and sadly I don't think it will be enough to handle them :-( Regular season records mean nothing, the Penguins swept their series against them last year and look at what happened in the playoffs...

But no matter what this season has been a success so let's just enjoy the ride and hope for a win here and there to extend the season a bit longer.

As long as the likes of Bertuzzi, Samuelsson, Cleary never see the ice, I like our chances in this series. The kids have shown they have the talent to put up offense as well as the guts to go to the hard areas of the ice and win battles, which we have sorely lacked in recent playoff history. We need a solid effort out of our D, don't have to win us any games but also don't lose us any, and Howard needs to play at least as well as he did over his last 10 or so starts. The Bruins are a bigger and more physical team, but we have the edge in foot speed with just about every forward line matchup. We stay healthy, Wings in 6 or 7, we lose any of our regulars, hate to say it but Bruins in 5 or 6.

Wings in seven. Will squeak into the next round, hopefully not too battered. Hank will be there to greet them anyway, so its all good.

The fact that they won the season series 3-1 is being completely ignored by the media.

I'm gonna say Bruins in six. I wouldn't hesitate in picking the Red Wings to win if Z and Ericsson were healthy. Otherwise, I just don't trust the defense being strong enough to contain a very big and deep Bruins forward group. Howard is going to have to play like last postseason for the Red Wings to have any shot in pulling the upset.

The kids will compete hard and play the Bruins tough, but this is a machine of an opponent.

Bruins in 5.

Boston remembers how they barely got past Toronto last year. They'd be stupid to make the same mistake. The Wings have too many defensive problems.

Great logic. They'd be dumb to lose in the first round? Sometimes you get beat. Anaheim lost to us because they were dumb? Boston's offense isn't very scary at all and Rask isn't as great as you all think. If we can get 30+ shots on him we score 2+ goals

This series will come down to who gets the good breaks and timely goals. Boston is much less scarier then Pittsburgh because I believe the pens could out score anybody in games they deserve to lose. If we win 1 in Boston then we take this series.

Everything is thrown out the window if Jimmy can't perform like he usually does in the playoffs though

Also Ericsson was a complete chud before going down with injury. With smith and Kronwall as our #1 pairing we're a hell of a lot more dynamic and threatening and we move the puck up ice a lot better. Smith has been a stand out player for us and I think he will thrive on the big stage and we can have a pairing that are actually a threat to score. Ericsson returning from injury will be nice only because we can replace Lashoff who is terrible with someone that can log a lot of responsible minutes. That's Ericsson game. Either he's locked down defensively or he's running around trying to do too much and not much help on either end of the ice

What's the logic for the Wings winning again? Team speed? Not a bad thing to have, but I don't think it's enough. Winning game 1 doesn't mean we take the series. Winning four games means we take the series. I don't see us winning four games.

And Jimmy hasn't played well in the playoffs until last season. You make it sound like he's some perennial playoff stud.

What's the logic for the Wings winning afgain?

Team speed and a youthful ignorance to the fact that Boston is 10x better than us. Guys like Tatar, Jurco, Smith actually believe if they play fast and hard they can win. Combine that with the fact that all the pressure is on Boston to not lose and none is really on us since we're not supposed to win, and these kids just might be right.

I hate that we have to wait till Friday for this series to begin, but I like it in the sense that it gives Babcock more time to develop a plan of attack. Jimmy is going to have to steal at least one game in this series for the Wings to have a chance. I'm thinking this is going to go the distance and perhaps an OT or 2.

Win or lose, I know the Wings have battled all year and the future is looking extremely bright.
