ECQF - Series A - Bruins versus Red Wings

If Datsyuk plays like Datsyuk and the supporting cast sticks to the plan and Jimmy stands on his head then the wings will stand a chance. If even one of those variables is not met then the wings lose plain and simple. Sweep or 7, it don't matter.

Last year I genuinely believed the wings had no chance against Anaheim and when every time they won a game I was like atleast i can watch another red wings game. This years team I see a lot more heart and desire then last years. This team won't allow themselves to get outplayed in back to back games. Sometimes you can't catch a break and the puck doesn't go in and that's what I think this series will come down to. Timely goals and lucky breaks

And anyways. Boston won't win the Stanley cup anyways no matter how this series goes. And in all honesty I would not be the least bit surprised if we got on them early and ended the series in 5 games like we should have last years Stanley cup champs. This team is one of the elite when they put everything together.

Boston is the perennial stat padding team. Toronto last year didn't play above their heads amazing hockey, they just beat the bruins. If it was any other team with an ounce of balls the series would have been over. No team in the east scares me if we play the way we tend to against elite teams. After game 1 people will throw out season stats and see that this red wings team is like last years but deeper, stronger and more experienced. We love being the underdog and after a couple games people won't look at us like one

I was really hoping to play Pittsburgh but now that we made the playoffs, we were going to have to beat the best teams anyways to go anywhere. Realistically I think Bruins in 6 or 7 but I'm going Wings in 6.

Team speed and a youthful ignorance to the fact that Boston is 10x better than us. Guys like Tatar, Jurco, Smith actually believe if they play fast and hard they can win. Combine that with the fact that all the pressure is on Boston to not lose and none is really on us since we're not supposed to win, and these kids just might be right.

I think this hits on the head. The kids in a sense don't know any better and granted I expect a mistake or 2 to happen and PRAY to GOD Jimmie comes up big at that time similar to the last time we played and him shutting the door on the breakaway. Thing is I don't see this team being rattled when the Bruins get chippy and I can't wait to see what rukus 41 causes.

Team speed is a good thing can't hit what you can't catch and you only get tired chasing.

I am riding this bandwagon till the wheels come off be it a sweep or 7 games!

I think these two teams are more evenly matched than people realize. It's hard to tell because the Wings have been in a constant state of flux. Between injuries and player's improvements, it's hard to know what we are looking at.

We all agree our weak link is defense, but really Quincey and Smith have improved. As long as that continues, the only weak spot is our third pairing. Limit their minutes or try Sproul or Oullet. Babcock's coaching will be key to keeping them off of dangerous ice. They better practice quick lone changes.

And then Howard. Who knows which one will show up.

We only need to grab a couple early in the series. Win Game 1 and 3 (2 is an afternoon NBC game so It's a loss) and then hang on until Z returns.

Once you break it all down it's not so scary. I know thay Boston has a playoff mode, but we do, too.

Also, a lot of our "ifs" are likely. Howard can play good, as can Smith. Plus, this series is ripe for someone like Tatar to break out. His style of play can really help us and makes us more dynamic. And Sheahan could have a Cleary/Helm kind of series.

We are going to lose, and it will all be Kronwall's fault ... according to Tony Amonte, who does not think highly of Nik Jr. -- http://www.csnne.com/boston-bruins/amonte-kronwall-will-spark-boston-bruins

Fat Tony thinks Kronwall will spark the Bruins.

Fat Tony is right, Amonte forget what the gym was once he retired looks like. Kronwall dirty, yaaaaa, heard that one before. I'd be surprised if there's a Kronwalling before Game 3 unless we're looking for momentum.

Not unless Franzen channels his 2008-2009 form.

We're probably more likely to see Bertuzzi channel his 2003 form.

Actually it's right about time franzen should be getting hot and since its the playoffs he may just go to 2008 form

Admittedly this looks gruesome on paper. I don't give anything on those regular season statistics, they are worthless for the injury riddled trainwreck the Wings have been. This is a much different team than the one that startet 2013. Because of that every article and so called expert that writes us already off might be a little bit to quick with their judgement. Red Wings can upset the Bruins, we absolutely have the skillset for that Only problem is our consistency. I'm looking on you Howard and on you D-Corps. If they can keep their form (in Howards case get back to the playofform from last year) we are very much able to beat them.

Oh my this is going to be good! So many X factors here to say the least, Kreci usually gets rolling come playoffs so hopefully so will the Mule. I also get the feeling Tatar may be like Zetterberg in the way he's going to raise his game~he did get the MVP in his last years playoff run. Howard is going to be amaze balls!!

I can go with Wings in 7. They played the Bruins tough, even when the Wings were playing pretty bad hockey...playoffs are different but our youth is just what the Dr. ordered...

( Using the term "our youth" when describing the Red Wings...who'd a thunk it!?!?)

If we can manage to fluidly get the puck out of our zone on breakouts and get some clutch goaltending, we have a shot. Boston is gonna be physical and gonna try to rough up our skill guys(Pav, Tatar, Nyquist). We are gonna need Franzen and Alfredsson to wake up from their extended naps and play like they want the Cup. Oh and stay out of the damn penalty box! Go Wings!!

We will not beat Boston.

The odds are too high. They're too deep. Asking James Tiberius Howard to steal 4 games against that team is just too much. They're too tough, a machine. Drago.

Right? I mean, there is no chance, is there? Certainly not.

We shouldn't give any weight to the thought that Mike Babcock, the most brilliant hockey mind (minus a steel plate) on earth, has five days to prepare, right? No way a coach can make that much difference when you have two teams so widely separated in talent and grit like these two. No way. I mean, we've never seen an 8 seed change their style, or leverage their existing style, to defeat a heavy favorite..have we? I've searched my memory banks all the way back to '07 and I just can't find an example of that.

Should I go a year further? What? Oh...2006. Yes.

No one, not a single person on the planet, is predicting a Wing victory in this series. Fewer people picked Edmonton in '06.

Dwayne Roloson beat us in '06. Craig MacTavish trapped us and beat us. It was horrific.

But it can't happen again. Boston's too good.

Right?

Unless the Wings win one of the first two. I think I read that somewhere. I'll have to check. But I think I may have read it right here.

30 April 2013

We need at least one in ridiculous Anaheim. Game 1 would be preferable, but we'll take 2 if it's offered. Give us both and it will be on *****-style.

Interesting, isn't it? Wouldn't it be? Wouldn't it be just downright intriguing if the Wings came back to the Joe next Tuesday with a split? Of course, it can't happen. The odds are just too tall. We don't have the guns. Datsyuk is healing. Nyquist can't seem to score with 13 back in. Franzen has disappeared, of course. Zetterberg is out for the first round...wait. What?

“It’s good news he’s going to skate with the team (Tuesday), but the bigger news is how does he feel on Wednesday,” Holland continued. “Then, if feels good enough to skate on Wednesday then the next bigger news will be how does he feel to skate on Thursday.”

Well, that's just downright quirky.

Forget about it, though. I'm sure the Captain won't be back. Just stow it away and forget it was mentioned. Certainly his return is just too much to consider. And I'm sure he'd be all rusty and slow and fragile. I'm also sure that if he came back the team wouldn't get any sort of emotional lift. Plus, it's not like he's ever done anything in the playoffs before. He kind of withers in April, doesn't he?

I love being an 8 seed.

I love the playoffs.

I love hockey.

I love the Detroit Red Wings.

Too many threads, so just putting this in here.

Have folks seen this:

This is awesome. "When all else fails, why NOT support a historic franchise with excellent coaching, solid young player development, and consistently sane management"? Yes: Detroit. No: Philadelphia.

Truer words were never spoken.

You know what else I love?

Firstly, that we're too old young.

Secondly (and this is what the Chief was mainly saying), that people's memory stretches back only as far as 2012. (OMG KINGS OMG!!!) Huge upsets that no one could've predicted? They pretty much never happen. Just look at the Wings...

  • '95 - Wings beat the Devils.
  • '96 - Wings beat the Avalanche and went on to beat the Panthers.
  • '97 - Flyers beat the Wings.
  • '03 - Wings beat the Ducks. (What ever happened to that Mark Babcock fellow? He seemed nice.)
  • '04 - Flames did upset the Northwest Division champion Canucks in the first round, but even if they'd somehow managed to knock off the Presidents' Trophy winning Wings in the second round (they didn't), the Pacific Division champion Sharks very likely would've been waiting for them in the WCF. Sorry, but the Flames were not going to eliminate three division champs. No one eliminates three division champs in a row.
  • '06 - Wings beat the Oilers.
  • '12 - Wings beat the Predators.
  • '13 - Ducks beat the Wings.
