The Datsyuk Goal

I've had to watch this thing like 15 times and analyze it, still amazed, he confused three Bruins in the neutral zone and left them standing, and then 2 defenders basically fell over backing up...he beat all 6 bruins on the ice by himself. But it gets better, notice when he scored, he had that sly look but no overly joyous celebration, keeping it humble, "it's only game one, let's stay focused" attitude.

Franzen skates over, and if you look he leans down and says something to Dats and points back to where it all happened. By the body motion you can tell he is in disbelief, I can here him now, in his mule accent: "Wat yu do there...it...but...how?"

Datsyuk then maintains composure with the other 4 guys, gives them each a small boop on the head, and reaffirmed to them by his leadership at that moment to keep it cool, more work to be done. Epic. And if this is the attitude the whole team posses, that it's one goal, one game, keep it humble, come into practice and work even harder...then good things are going to happen.

I could watch that play over and over again just to see Marchant getting trapped on that maneuver. If he doesn't bite on that bad pass, he's still in position on Datsyuk and can keep Pavs on Chara's side of the ice. Instead, Pavel pulls the puck up and it leads to a two on two, with Marchant eating dust on the Wings' blue line. Abby does an excellent job driving the net and Datsyuk is free to move to the left wing from the right side. That puts Chara in no man's land and the other defensman is respecting Abdelkader's drive to the net. Dats takes full advantage of the time and space, puts the shot where he needs to put it, but it all starts when Marchant loses his man on that puck-drag play, and allows Datsyuk to shift to the left side.

Is that Chara on the far side? I haven't seen the video in a few hours and it's not loading for me. Anyway, something I noticed earlier - he didn't actually fall over because of Datsyuk's move, his skate was kicked by Abdelkader when Abby tripped. Then the other defender laid on top of #8.

Yes the "love for....." thing is getting old. But I will do it anyway. If Abby doesn't clear out BOTH od the B's Dmen, does Datsyuk score? Never know. But that play is why Datsyuk loves having Abby on his line. No he isn't going to score much. But he will do the dirty work that keeps Datsyuk free to do his thing. What Abby did would have made (yes he will not like this) Bo proud! A true blocking fullback!

only one I could find

I never noticed Franzen was actually tying up the Bruins player's stick so Datsyuk could grab that... I thought he had just flubbed the pass and Datsyuk made the most of it. Took all three forwards of that line to put that puck in, awesome!

He did just flub the pass. He then tried to get the Bruins guy stick in a panic so they couldn't break in. The only time Franzen being s*** helps the Wings.

I sometimes wonder if all of Datsuyk's skill with the puck doesn't overshadow his amazingly sick wrist shot. In all the YouTube highlight reels you can see him make tons of these beautiful wrist shots. When he takes one he looks different than any other player. Is it the long stick, the way he almost always makes one or two moves before firing on off, the way he follows through...? He's just so darn... fluid or... something. Whatever it is, it's fun to watch and I want to see more. Good work by all the linemates there, but we need to see more of giving this guy what he needs. I think Abby is working hard, Franzen... could work harder and smarter IMO. To me it seems obvious. If you are fortunate enough to be put on that line your job is to do everything you possibly can to unleash #13.

I think you got it with fluid, that's how I always describe it. Or just plain smooth. Everything he does down to the skating is fluid. No one else looks like him out there.
