plopster 136 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Sure would be nice to have filpulla instead of Samuelson Weiss and cleary wasting cap space.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) You seem to get a hard time here, but I am not a homer wearing red tinted glasses kneeling at the altar of Holland is a Genius God Who Can Do No Wrong. I agree with many things you say. Kudos for staying tough with all the nasty playground crap you take here. As for Babcock, he has good qualities, but when it comes to line combinations and adaptability he is playing checkers when the game is chess. I'm not as frustrated with this game as most, because this game, this sloppy horrible embarrassing play, was long in the making and is the direct result of Holland having no plan, no strategy, no adaptability, no creativity, no resourcefulness and basically no clue for years. There is always some excuse on why we can't put together a team. He tried to buy a D, but that failed. What did he do after? Nothing. He doesn't know how to anything except pay for it, but those days are gone. Meanwhile I see plenty of other well developed teams like the one embarrassing us tonight. They all have the same cap and the same pool of players to choose from, so what's the deal? Holland is a house of cards. He has ridden the coat tails of our scouts, coaches, star players and an unlimited checking account pre cap. With all that (or most of it) gone, this is what he brings us. The kids deserve all the credit for making the playoofs, but they were thrown into all this by mistake, not by design, because there was NO design. Don't bother telling me about injuries. Of course Hank is a killer, but an entire team doesn't collapse to making minor league mistakes when the captain is down. Where are Cleary and Samuelsson tonight, Holland's big off season... what, I guess... re-acquisitions? Were those too mediocre has-beens his only option? Seriously, do you believe that? There was nothing else he could do, nobody else to pursue, trade, deal...? Oh wait, my mistake, there is Alfredsson bringing all that skill, experience and leadership to the ice this series. Yea, he was Holland's idea too. What a genius. Don't forget Weiss. He's been a major factor. And Ottawa just let Alfredsson go and went and got Bobby Ryan. He'll be a solid player for them for 10 years. They win. Edited April 23, 2014 by AtomicPunk

Liquidsnake 12 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 We looked a bit better the 2nd half of that period. But this starting games slow is killing us. Not holding out too much for 2 goals in the third, so game four now becomes crucial. We can't go down 3-1. Babs you've got to have the boys ready to start with a bang in game four! GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 The line of Nyquist, Franzen, and Legwand got us to the playoffs. That's it. And they have yet to play one single second together over the two debacles that have been games 2 and 3. Blame it on Mike.

RyanBarnes! 293 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Can at least squeeze blood out of Marchand? Can Babcock have our guys do that?? If we aren't going to play hockey. And then what?? Watch as Thornton, Lucic and Chara destroy half our team? Detroit has no business getting physical with the Bruins, or any other team for that matter. 5 Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot), Hockeymom1960, kipwinger and 2 others reacted to this
CrimsonFlame 424 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 And then what?? Watch as Thornton, Lucic and Chara destroy half our team? Detroit has no business getting physical with the Bruins, or any other team for that matter. Chara won't fight. He wouldn't even fight a guy a foot and a half shorter than him. He's just a big goon with no bite.

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 We're not scoring. And that's an issue. But, Howard saves the you-have-to-save-that softy, and this is a one-shot game, and we're probably way more engaged and "with-it." We put so much stock in him being The Guy, and how we're only gonna go as far as he goes. And then, shockingly, he doesn't set the world on fire, and that's all she wrote. Same sort of thing with Franzen, I guess. He gets the benefit of the doubt and is always put in a position to succeed, and he does nothing when we need him the most. Even Datsyuk, he needs to strap the team on his back here. meh
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 The line of Nyquist, Franzen, and Legwand got us to the playoffs. That's it. And they have yet to play one single second together over the two debacles that have been games 2 and 3. Strongly disagree. Obviously those guys were key, but it's not like the Wings were winning them 10-3. There were a lot of young guys and role players doing the little things necessary to help eek out those wins. It took the kind of commitment and grinding effort that Babcock preaches.

Detroit has no business getting physical with the Bruins, or any other team for that matter. Notice I said "if we aren't going to play hockey" if this is all our boys have, they can go join Phil Kessel on the fishing boat in full body casts for all I care. /rant
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Why should Chara fight? Scoreboard. No reason to even consider it, no need to. Just laugh at the Wing challenging you. And watch him do nothing about it.
FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Well, on a positive note, the NBCSN intermission show isn't faulting Smith for the knee/trip call. Basically, "he was on a track and didn't move his leg out any more but gets caught by the guy going around him".
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 23, 2014 Honestly, at this point, all we can do is throw the puck at the net and crash. Forget the passing, setting up in their zone and all that. Just throw it on net, crash and hope for a rebound. And no more intentional missing the net to set up something. No Wing will ever get that particular kind of rebound. Hit Rask. Nothing else. 1 wings7 reacted to this
