This whole thing is just insane. Babs is just bracing Jurco and Kindl for next year, when a) Jurco is back in GRs and b) Kindl is on the 2nd pairing. :w00t:

The only thing that I can think of is that the man we know as "Mike Babcock" is actually a performance artist named Skye Rainwater who got his liberal arts degree from UC Berkley. For years Skye had toyed with the theory that the American public was getting slower, duller, and more obtuse by the second. It's not hard to imagine someone from UC Berkley holding such an opinion. Eventually, Skye found an opportunity to prove his theory when Gary Bettman cruelly tricked Marian Illitch into biting an apple from the Tree of Knowledge, thus tearing the organizations' decision makers out of their pre-2005 enlightenment and into the dark age of "parity" and "Mike Babcock".

Ever since that fateful day, Red Wings fans have been the subject of hockey's biggest social experiment. The man we know as Mike Babcock (aka Skye Rainwater) does the dumbest s*** possible all the time...yet cleverly misdirects scrutiny by consistently uttering meaningless platitudes such as tonight's postgame "You shouldn’t give up easy access to your blue line" and "The second thing is we got to have a better plan and execution on our power play".

Convinced that nobody will notice, his idiotic decision making and meaningless gibberish will continue until one day the Messiah will return, flanked by the Mahdi, and Dale Earnhardt (R.I.P) to vanquish the serpent (Bettman), send Skye Rainwater back to bowels of California, and promote Jeff Blashill to coach the Detroit Red Wings.

Blashill's first act as newly appointed head coach, and survivor of the fight between good and evil...

So if Carey Price was our goalie, we'd have won two games by a score of 1-0, and lost the other game by a score of 1-0.

Let me get this straight. His 2.5 GAA average behind a much better defence is a number far superior to Howard’s 2.00 GAA behind Kronwall, DeKeyser, and the four town drunks (although I like Smith)?

Or wait, could it be that le horseshoe (that’s french for horseshoe) landed squarely on Montreal and Price’s lap when Bishop couldn’t start and instead they got Gumby?

I'm probably the only one here that thinks Howard has been our best player through the 3 games. Yes he wasn't great in game 2, but mainly the first goal was the problem. Tonight is not on Howard, how many times do you have to rob a team for your team to not give you any goal support.... Howard has been our best player and most consistent. Just the facts... Everyone else has had a good couple shifts here or there and that's it...

If our MVP of this series was named today... It would be Jimmy Howard... The one guy everyone is blaming the most....?

Is everyone forgetting that the ******* bruins are a superior team to our skelton squad. God dam, its 2-1 and everyone outside detroit and even some in this forum picked the bruins in 4 scoring 50 goals during the process.

Bruins are where we want to be a a couple years.

I ******* hate them but they are a better team and it will take our absolute best game and effort eaxh night witnout any mistakes mentally or physically with some luck to win 4 games against them. Much like game 1. No excuses not to start on time and give them our best game, that part is frustrating though.

Dats makes a crazy play in game 1 and all if a sudden were gonna win the cup this year.

All this bitching and blasting is hilarious considering where we were 2 and a half weeks ago. Admittingly, the forums puke and piss is much more entertaining than the game to tonight.

Nothing about the coaching makes any sense. The Wings keep running the same play over and over, and are shocked its not successful. From line selection to playing time, to running actual plays; the coaching staff is really dropping the ball here. The staff deserves plenty of blame, but the main reason we look so bad out there is because the effort is lacking. We've got half the team just standing around digging in their noses, while the other half- I genuinely don't know what the other half is doing.

We're losing every 50/50 puck, because we're playing soft. Way too many fly by's on the forecheck, and way to many give-a-ways on the backcheck.

I don't really see a whole lot of 'blaming only Howard' for this loss like some are claiming. It's more holding him accountable for his mistakes.

If you're going to say that "other people shouldn't be blaming only one person (Howie), because the team as a whole is playing poorly and you're letting them off the hook."

Then you shouldn't turn around and say "the whole team isn't playing well, but I'm going to let Howard off the hook for his own contributions to this debacle and hold all of the skaters to a higher standard."

You're doing the exact same thing. There's plenty of blame to go around and EVERYBODY (skaters, goalie, coaches, GM) should be held responsible for their parts in this.

I'm not surprised at all. The bruins are top to bottom better in every way except goaltending is say is equal.

It'll be bruins in 5 maybe 6. And by the way our young guys are the best players. Franzen sucks. Dat is playing like ehhh.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. We need a legit power forward so bad it's not even funny.

Howard isn't the problem. He is 4th in the PO's amoung the starting G's with 2.02 GAA and 4th in save % at .931. Both numbers are better than his season numbers. He has allowed 6 goals in 3 games. We have scored 2 goals in 3 games. Which is the problem?

That's the truth right there. Its just easier to put all the blame on a goalie. Sure he had a gaff in game 2 but every player makes a mistake at some point through a game it they have others to save them. Not so with goalies. The problem with the wings is the same thing that's plagued them the last couple years. They rarely can put together a full 60 minute games worth of effort. They either start slow and dig themselves a hole or can't hold a team off in the third. Game 1's effort was the anomaly. Games 2 and 3 are the norm.

The team is basically Datsyuk and the kids. The kids are why the Wings are in the playoffs plain and simple. Now they are getting a tough introduction into NHL playoff hockey and are struggling which is expected for young guys. Hopefully the experience makes them better. With Z and Big E the Wings might have had a shot. Without them and every vet not named Datsyuk not pulling there weight for the team the really have no shot.

You gotta lose to learn to win. Hopefully the young guys who will be the core from now on are taking notes.

Oh and Franzen is s***. If Holland had any cahones he'd get into the dressing room and tell him he either needs to start producing or he will be bought out. Playoffs are supposed to be his time to shine as the regular season bores him. Wings have had to be in playoff mode since the start of March and he's been useless that whole time. Being nicknamed the Mule right now is disrespectful to mules.

This x1000. Franzen has been by far our worst player out there. The one forward out there with size to match the B's and who has the potential to create havoc a la Homer is simply coasting around from shift to shift. The 08 run was 6 years ago, Mule, time to produce or pack.

Sent from my Dell Keyboard that probably needs to be dusted.

I don't get the people defending Howard. Obviously it's not completely his fault we lost, but that first goal was brutal. 2nd was a bad line change if I recall, the Wings are taking bad penalties, can't score, etc. First goal was still brutal, and way too early in the game.

Edit: but to say something more productive, I'd really like (for once) to see some line changes. I feel like we're wasting Legwand and our current set up isn't getting it done, need to stop banging our head against the wall trying the same thing here .

This too. I was excited because I thought they came out with some jump today, though admittedly I thought that for game 2 also. But then they quickly stop looking hungry.

Oh really?! I had no idea I'd been posting in such an unpopular/rarely used thread that you had to link it to me here! Thanks for the information! That thread has over 750 posts in it (of which I've contributed maybe around 20) and was started over a year ago (not by me). Go back in the two GDTs to when those two goals were scored and see the reactions from everybody else. It's clear I'm not the only one that thinks Howard isn't anything special.

By the way, I don't "hate" Howard. How manyf****** times do I have to tell people that just because I'm not giving him a free pass, that doesn't make me a "hater".

And nowhere have I said that just because Howard has some flaws that it doesn't matter what anybody else on the team does or that the rest of the team shouldn't work on their weak areas.

All I was saying is that it's ridiculous for people to demand that a single player out 25 have all his flaws and mistakes willfully overlooked and be immune from criticism based on the position he plays (and it happens to be quite an important position). Maybe that's not 'productive' to you (I disagree, I think it's one of the best way to be productive as it's the only way to find out what you need to improve on), but in any case that wouldn't make what is being said untrue.

Bottom line, I would never go around telling people they can't make a comment when a goalie (or anyone) makes a big play if he had actually just made a big play.

And yet I'm always seeing people telling other people that they shouldn't make comments about a bad play a player (specifically a goalie, or perhaps only a goalie, or even more specific only the starting goalie) makes even if they had actually just make a bad play! Again, maybe you think that's unproductive, but it wouldn't mean that the play somehow doesn't contribute to the teams overall problems the way every single other problem does.

Boston is playing like a 1 seed. Detroit is playing like an 8 seed. With experience, Smith will be the solid #2 d man. Datsyuk has become a one man show. The next core is in place and they will continue to get better within. They need a supporting cast. Holland and backcock are what the franchise needs and are facing much adversity in their careers. They will be on top again. Wings need z and his next 4 years will give him yzerman status.

Boston is a stacked team. The wings are full of kids. Last year our youth and inexperience showed in 7 games. Boston is not taking any chances with us and it showed. Plain and simple we lose this series barring a sudden drop on Boston's enthusiasm in winning a cup and Franzen suddenly waking up.

The wings CAN win IF they play their game and keep the pressure on and not only get 4 shots through 30 minutes

My point is that if we score at the pace of either of the teams in that series we're probably up 2-1 right now.

And if Howard doesn't give up 2 weak goals there's a good chance we're probably up 2-1 right now. You can speculate about absolutely anything. It doesn't make it fact. The Wings may have scored more if they weren't in an early hole.

good players don't just give up when something doesn't go their way. They fight the whole way. This team doesn't. And that's not Howard's fault. He made one bad play in a game we lost because the only goal we could score came off a lucky bounce. So by my count, that's Howard: 1, rest-of-team: infinite.

Or maybe they're not giving up, they're getting dominated by a good defensive team who can sit back and not take chances because they get an early lead from an opposing goalie giving up weak goals.

I'm not saying Howard isn't to blame, I just think the definition of a soft goal on this forum is crazy. The first goal last night wasn't a soft call and a lot of goalies won't come up with that save. Then hearing people say the 3rd goal in the Boston game was soft is completely laughable. Howard obviously hasn't been a stud stealing us every game, but he certainly has been our best player.
