not a ;awyer-to damn many of those, just going by what Kaser has said many times. This is why last years guys where sent down during the year, never played for GR and where able to play in the PO's. Now if I am wrong, GREAT! would love to see him play. But don't think he can. Moving on......

The rule that you're talking about is for NHL players joining the AHL. In their case they have to be on the AHL roster on the day of the NHL trade deadline.

You'll see a bunch of teams making paper transactions at the deadline to make age and contract eligible players available for the AHL teams should the parent NHL franchise be eliminated.

There is no such rule (from what I can find) that applies to major junior players joining the AHL when their CHL season is over. Based on the transfer agreement they seem to be perfectly eligible to play.

This is exactly the truth. People keep ignoring the various posts explaining this exact thing and saying he can't play cause he wasn't in the ahl. It's not true though. Edited by Euro_Twins

Didn't DeKeyser when he was signed go straight to the Wings without playing in Grand Rapids and then play in the Griffins Playoffs once the Wings were eliminated? How would it be any different for Mantha going from the Q to the Griffins if DeKe did the same thing just from the NHL to the Griffins or is it two separate sets of rules and conditions for Q to AHL and NHL to AHL? Neither were a part of the Griffins regular season nor were on the roster for the Griffins (unless I'm missing something very obvious).

The week before the NHL playoffs started last year Andersson, Nyquist, Dekeyser and Lashoff were sent down to GR in a paper transaction allowing them to be used to the AHL playoffs after the wings elimination. My understanding is that Mantha doesn't fall in to this category as he has played in the CHL and will be able to join the Griffins after game 7 with Val D'or

Ah, wasn't aware of the "paper transaction", that sums it up.

Thanks for the info.

Why is the Hockey media saying Mantha could join the Griffins for the remainder of the playoffs?

I don't know enough to know either way. but you'd think they would know right?

Why aren't they mentioning any paper transaction? If you search "Mantha AHL" on twitter all you see are reputable hockey analysts saying Mantha will join Grand Rapids if Val D'Or is eliminated.

I'm not saying anyone in this thread is wrong because I don't know.

What I am saying is how does some anonymous poster on a message board know this rule but people whose livelihoods depend on knowing hockey inside and out don't? I'm confused damnit!

Mantha just scored the game winner with 52 seconds left for the QMJHL Championship! No GR for him, headed to the Memorial Cup!

Edit: Also finished the playoffs with 24 G in 24 GP meaning he finished the whole year 81 G in 81 GP.

"If Anthony Mantha is ready to play in the National Hockey League next year and he beats somebody out, he'll play in the National Hockey League," Wings general manager Ken Holland said after the Wings' playoff run ended. "But if he can't beat anybody out, we're not just going to put him on the team because he had a great junior career. I don't believe in entitlement, I don't believe in handing people jobs. I believe you come in and you take somebody's job."

I wish he'd just come out and say he doesn't trust anyone under the age of 30.

Hope that he will crack the Wings roster next season. He seems to be mature enough this season.

But Holland can resign Cleary and Samuelsson, so I'll try to be patient

Yes. If Mantha doesn't make the team out of camp it's because Holland has offered contracts to Bertuzzi, Cleary, Sammy, Jason Williams, Maltby, and Hartigan.

It'll have nothing to do with Mantha not quite being ready.

Holy s*** this rhetoric is getting old.
