From NHL:

Jim Rutherford is stepping down as general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes and the team has promoted Hall of Fame player Ron Francis to replace him.

In a series of moves announced Monday, the Hurricanes also hired Mike Vellucci as assistant GM and director of hockey operations and promoted Brian Tatum to assistant general manager.

Stepped down/pushed out? Did Carolina "get the man they wanted"?

When are teams going to stop promoting franchise greats to be their GM's. It almost never works. There are only a couple times in recent memory when this has been successful (It remains to be seen whether Sakic pans out).

Glad to see Vellucci leave. He had some stacked teams and took some risks in the draft and import draft that didn't work out

To me it sounds like they've promoted him to assistent GM

Not surprised with Rutherford stepping town, the guy just couldn't create an identity with this team and overpaid for Semin big big time.
