I don't think so. Boston has him under control for awhile yet don't they?

He's a restricted free agent. I don't have any inside info, but I think the Bs like him.

Question is do the Wings like him? We already know Krug loves the Wings. We have the advantage.

He is nowhere near old enough to hit UFA status. He isn't going anywhere for a long time. File this one under pipe dream, sadly

Call me a n00b but I don't know what the detailed differences are between restricted and un.

He can love us all he wants, Boston owns his rights. Unless Boston doesn't want him, Krug is theirs until his first contract post 27 years old comes to an end.

He just isn;t old enough to be UFA. RFA means he isn't under contract, but Boston owns his negotiating rights. UFA means anyone can go for him.

No thanks. A 5'9 defenseman can work on a team of giants and badasses and giant badasses. On our team he'd just get steamrolled on the forecheck and he'd have half as many assists because the guys he'd be passing to are 190 lbs. as opposed to 215-235 lbs, and get knocked off the puck more often.

Sadly, Torey's not the guy for us. Good player though.

Much like why Marchand likes to act like a tough guy.

I see your points and they're valid, but if we could ditch Lashoff for him I'd be happy. Hahaha

Correct. And that's no knock on either of those players, or on our organization. It's just that some guys who work on one team wouldn't work on another. Gaborik in Columbus for example. Good player, wrong team. Same with Krug. He needs a big team to be effective.

Torey Krug will be a RFA this summer. If the Wings want to pursue him then they would have to forward him an offer sheet. If Krug accepted the Wings' offer sheet then Boston would have a chance to match that offer. If the Bruins match then he would stay in Boston. If they did not match Detroit's offer then he would become a Wing, but the Wings would owe the Bruins some draft picks - the exact quality of those picks would be determined by Krug's salary.

In short, yes... it's possible to land Krug, but unlikely since Boston would likely match any offer by the Wings - unless there was overpayment. RFA can be poached, but they can only be poached if you're willing to overpay. If Holland offered Krug 4-5 million then I'm sure he would be able to get him; any less and I think the Bruins match.

I don't think Krug is needed. We have loads of LD players already and considering he is undersized he would be set up for failure on our team - Boston has loads of big bodies around him so he is less exposed and doesn't get run as much. Krug on our team if we played boston would be destroyed by boston forecheckers.

Agreed. He's a similar player to our man Almquist. Who is already being branded as being "too small" to play in Detroit.

You answered my question, almost directly, but I'm going to pose it anyway: How is UFA calculated? By MLB, it's service time (seasons accrued). By NFL, it's the end of a contract with at least two years of service time. Is the NHL straight 27-years-old when the contract expires?

Krug is a much better skater.

27 years old, or there are other ways based on age vs. NHL time to help keep people from being buried in the minors forever. http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2013/6/21/4436012/getting-to-know-the-cba-episode-3-free-agency
