NHL 15 Getting New Commentators: Doc and Edzo *sigh

Well, I just literally sad faced. It's bad enough I have to endure these guys on national broadcasts.....WHY OH WHY GOD WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!?!?!

EA has teamed up with NBC Sports, the television home of the NHL playoffs, for what the publisher calls "the most realistic broadcast package in a video game to-date [sic]." That's highlighted by commentary from the network's leading team of Mike "Doc" Emrick (play-by-play) and Eddie Olczyk (analysis); they are replacing Gary Thorne and Bill Clement, respectively, who debuted in the Xbox 360 version of 2006's NHL 07.

While Emrick and Olcyzk will call the action in NHL 15 on both last-generation and new consoles, only the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game will feature a full presentation upgrade. That includes supplemental commentary from the rink by TSN analyst Ray Ferraro as well as "real-world" pregame notes from Emrick and Olcyzk in the broadcast booth, according to EA. In addition, NHL on NBC broadcasters will provide introductions to games.

So, what you're saying is if I want to play this series, I'd better pick up '14...

Offhand, if the console crashes on you in the middle of the game, does Olcyzykcrykzvbyz come on and say your Xbox One is guilty of "subtle interference"?

Im all for this..

As biased as they are in reality, that wont be the case for an NHL video game, doc's enthusiasm is going to be great for the game

This is MUCH better than the pre-WW1 announcing of gary thorne thats been around since NHL1906

I was curious if they were going to work that into the game. I would NOT be surprised to hear Edzo rattle that off about the Red Wings. It's almost like the line they have programmed in the game now, when you get a powerplay they say something like "This is not what they wanted to do, put this team on the powerplay. This is one of the most feared powerplays in the game." Then I laugh hysterically out loud.

How difficult would it be to get each team's actual announcers on the game? Genuinely curious? Is that even possible?

would love to have Ken and Mick on a game.

I'm sure it would cost way too much, take up too much storage space, and realistically I don't see it ever happening. I mean, I'm not even sure they have all of the arenas programmed into the game...asking for the real announcers is a very long shot.

I remember reading somewhere that EA stated doing the commentary is the most difficult and expensive aspect of developing a sports title, that's why it's been Gary and Bill for the last 7 years or so unchanged.

I for one support this entirely and i'm pretty excited about the change. I am a GM for a League Gaming team and play at least 1,500 online games per year, I compete in organized OTP leagues so I definitely overplay the series. Hearing the same commentary for the last 7 years has pretty much forced me to turn it off in the options menu entirely. While i'm not thrilled about Eddie being here, the rest don't much bother me and it's a much needed change.

Honestly, I'm for the change.Kind of excited for it actually. Like Wingsalltheway said, the bias won't be the case for a video game where they'll have to read lines given to them instead of improving on the fly during live games. Plus, I kinda wanna hear "DRIIIIIIIIIIVE!" Emerick every time I take a slapper. And, strangely, I must admit I'm a little disappointed that McGuire won't be added in there instead of Ferraro. Can't get the whole band in there, EA?

With that said, I'll be turning off everything except the rink and crowd sound after awhile. I feel more immersion listening to the crowd and player chatter/skating while playing. Plus, aside from the redundancy, it gets annoying hearing multiple voices over chat, arena announcer, and the commentators.
