Why not sign Ryan Miller?

Wings should buy out or trade Howie but doubt anyone wants him at his price. Miller hasn't been the elite goalie he used to be but playing back home with his brother might be a good idea, I remember hearing a few years back that Ryan would like to play for the Wings during his career. I think its good timing. I don't know anything about if Howie is buyout eligible but what do you guys think. I've been thinking about this for a long time. Mrazek is coming to form soon so there's really nothing to lose, but gaining that elite goalie we've never had since the dominator. That's only if, I think Ryan would get back to form if he joins the wings....... Sorry if there's already something on this. Just giving my 2 cents in. LGW "2015"

Miller has some work to do to get back to his old form and he still wouldn't hold a candle to the dominator. Would the blues be willing to deal miller since they just got him? Even though he has looked very lack-luster? Who knows. Honestly, I don't see it happening. I think some change is needed, but this is a long-shot.

I thought miller was a FA this summer. I hardly look at contracts sorry but does he still have another year or is he a FA?

He's a free agent. I in no means see this happening but Howard to Winnipeg for big buff, then sign miller would be something I'm on board for. But again I can't see it happening

As it sits, Miller is a UFA as his contract expired after this season. It would be a matter of making him an offer and him accepting. IF St. Louis elects to not bring him back or Miller decides he wants to play elsewhere is the first question. The second is would Detroit be willing to give up on Howard after his recent contract extension. I believe no, but i've been surprised before.

Being Miller is a UFA and that is the base of this thread, i'm moving it to the Trade Rumor/UFA area of the forums.

I like Howie but I wouldn't oppose either trying for Miller until Mrazk is ready to drive nor would I be opposed to use Howie for a big trade... Buff would be a cool peice to add especially if he is a right handed shot.

Because Miller's season was so much better than Howard's?

Last I checked, he went from the basement dwelling Sabres to the first round choke-stacks, the Blues.

If Miller had played with Detroit this season, there's no indication that his numbers would have been any better than Jimmy's, and not much chance that the Wings would have had any better fate.

The only way Howard gets traded is if Mrazek steals his job in the next few years.

I would bring him. He won't be worse than Howard, and he very well could be great.

Not a necessary move but we could use Howard to get a D-man and bring Miller in.

It's a low risk move, and maybe a move we need. But since it's not the most glaring weakness no move will be made.

I like Miller but I just don't see him being pursued by us. You sign Miller and you take the big cap hit and then you have to move Howard. Chances are you wouldn't get your worth out of that trade. Too risky if you ask me. Also, you sign Miller it still doesn't address our need for a defenseman or a scorer.

Miller at this point is slightly better than Howard, if that. Howard may not be a Vezina winner, but he's better than his stats showed this year. Off years happen.

Especially with the added pressure of a new contract to live up to. We see players (especially goalies) so often struggle in the first year of a big contract. I fully expect to see the Howard from the previous season come fall. That being said, I still long for the day Mrazek steals his job. I really can see M-Raz becoming our Rask. They've had very similar careers as being standout goalies in their pre NHL days. Hopefully that continues with him stealing Howard's job. Mrazek has won at every level he has played in. I have no doubt in my mind that he can keep that up going forward.
