Blues re-sign Elliott, announce Miller won't be back

everyone says get better on D and Howard becomes better...heck, even I thought that would be the case as well...but then I realized that the D has nothing to do with shootout goals. We lost so many points due to Howard being inept in the shootout. It better had been a knee or we are in deep doo doo for years to come. Especially if they pass on Miller and then realize Howard blows.

Well he was great in the shootout in the previous years so I would assume it was an injury. And no thanks to Miller, if he couldn't put up good numbers on st. Louis, he won't be good in Detroit

I could see Miller being a good fit for Washington or Minnesota (depending on Harding's health). There are a few other teams that could really use a boost in net, but I don't see Miller wanting to go to many of them (Calgary, NYI, Winnipeg in a 1A, 1B situation with Pavelec). Really, those first two teams make the most sense to me.

Not unless they trade niemi. I don't see either goalie playing backup.

Not like Niemi has a choice, although since Miller is apparently after a CA address, he could make some concessions. Letting Boyle go, and especially if they use a compliance buyout on Havlat, they'll have enough cap space to carry both. However, it sounds like they would like to keep Stalock as backup, so if they do grab Miller, they would likely trade Niemi. Niemi doesn't have any sort of no-movement clause, so peddling him to an interested team that might have trouble attracting a starting goalie in the UFA market (Winnipeg, Vancouver, NYI if they can't get Halak locked up, Calgary) wouldn't be difficult.

I still strongly believe that Miller will end up with the Ducks, albeit short term. He can give them a proven starter while they continue to develop Andersen and Gibson into their goalies of the future. The Ducks are also one of the only teams that will be in the goalie market that will be favorited to make a Cup run next season.

No chance that Miller comes to the Wings. At this point, I doubt he would be an upgrade over Howard, and the teams could better use their cap space for other needs. I also doubt Miller would want to come to a team that barely made the playoffs the season before and already has a starting goalie. Howard would also be tough to move coming off a down season, with five years left and a big cap hit.

Howard got us into the playoffs this year and played great down the stretch. I don't think it's as much his fault as the defenses fault. That being said look at millers numbers last season with the worst team in the league in front of him before he got traded. He can play well without a good defense.

The only reason it would make even a semblance of sense for the Wings to go after Miller is if we could sign him to a shorter deal than Howard's and then deal Howard. I don't necessarily think it's an upgrade or a downgrade because both goalies have shown themselves to be at times brilliant but largely inconsistent. But if Mrazak is the future as many seem to think he is and is ready to take over the starting job in 2-3 years, it'd be nice to not have to still have Howard's cap hit hanging around in that period as well.

At the end of the day, I'm not nearly as down on Howard as some are despite all of last season's problems, but I am now far less enthralled about the length of his deal given that he's making a decent chunk of change now. But again, even if we were to magically sign Miller and deal Howard, it's mostly a lateral move in the present and does nothing to address the bigger issues facing this team. I don't think it's at all likely to happen though, and even if it were to, I think the only legitimate upside is the potential to sign a capable goalie to a shorter deal, and again, that's assuming Miller would agree to a shorter deal.

Look at his numbers after he was traded, he can play bad with a good defense.

Exactly. The Blues have probably the deepest defense in the league, outside of maybe Chicago. If Miller couldn't get that group out of the first round, he sure as hell wouldn't be able to with Kindl, Lashoff and Quincey in front of him.

I like Miller, and if we didn't have Jimmy, I'd take him while we wait for Mrazek, but both Miller and Jimmy would be too spendy.

I'd just like Miller and Hiller to end up somewhere together just because they rhyme.

Miller, please go to Minnesota if Harding and the other half dozen or so goalies they've killed this year aren't back.

Jimmy has a NTC. Miller isn't ready to be a backup yet. Not plausible.

I know Miller didn't have good playoffs by his standards but him being a backup ? Oh my god I think people are really starting to underrate the guy, he will gezt a starting job easily somewhere *cough* Vancouver *coughs* and I think Miller could be a great mentor for a guy like Lack, who was clearly fed to the wolves by their former coach/gm duo.

The monster/Howard duo should be far down the list, #1 needs to be defense #2 character, qualityguys and a more rugged gritty type of style for the third and fourth line.

Mrazek's ready to be a starter, and Howard isn't going anywhere, so...no way in hell do we sign him.

Some people are saying the Caps. I think that'd be a pretty good fit. Then again, he says he wants to play for a contender. Even with his services, I don't think the Caps are close to being a contender.

Pittsburgh only has one year left on Fleury's contract. Think there's any chance there?

Imagine how good they'd be if they played defense and had stable goaltending.

That's really disturbing if the Pens are doing this right, they could improve their goaltending, trainers (next year :( ) on top of having two superstars not exactly good for us.

The thought of them getting Miller and next year maybe the best coach in hockey is downright scary

Saint Louis fans now think with Elliot/Allen in net and the demand to get both Spezza and Stastny the Cup is theirs.

I know it's not the water, because Saint Louis has one of the better water systems in the United States. Must find the source of this thinking.

First thing would be to dump Backes as captain. That fact still blows my mind.
