NEW YORK, N.Y. - On the verge of winning the Stanley Cup, Drew Doughty remembers what it was like facing the same 3-0 hole the Rangers have now when the Kings faced the Sharks in the first round.

What he recalled does not reflect kindly on the likes of Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Dan Boyle.

"Once we won that first game of the San Jose series, we kind of had a feeling we were going to come back and win that series," Doughty said Wednesday several hours before Game 4 of the final. "And you could see it in their eyes and their team and their captains and leaders that they were worried about us coming back. So we don't want to give these guys any life."

As much as Doughty was complimenting his team for putting fear into the Sharks, it certainly can be construed as a shot at a core group that will more than likely see some changes after yet another playoff disappointment.

Shots fired.

He didn't say anything wrong. He said he could tell the sharks were losing confidence and they did, and that they came back and won which they did and they don't want to give the rangers that same hope, which they did.

So, you guys are all cool with someone who's your rival essentially calling you "scared?" Questioning your abilities by saying you could read it on your faces? That your concern is so obvious? Okay...

I'm sure if this quote had come up during the series, it probably would have been great bulletin board material for the Sharks locker room. Maybe lit a fire under some asses.

Could've been but let's be honest...sharks went sharks. That's who've they've been...

He was talking about the Sharks... was there anything at all untrue about what he said?

Not saying it's not true. It is their MO. ...but if the Bruins had said, "Oh, that Detroit series... *pshaw* we weren't worried about that in the least. Sure, they'll make the playoffs, but have you seen their team lately?"

Anyway, I thought it was an interesting quote on a "slow news days." He certainly could have avoided bringing up "the team, their captains, their leaders" and just said,

"Once we won that first game of the San Jose series, we kind of had a feeling we were going to come back and win that series. We felt we could do it and we want to make sure we give the Rangers no such feeling."

It. Be fai for the bruins to say that. Have YOU seen the wings lately? That is THEIR MO right now. Barely make the playoffs and then lose. And some people think by only getting older things will change....

If he had said that when the Kings were still down in the series, it might have been a story. It might have been something the Sharks could have used for motivation. You can trash talk all you want AFTER you've beaten someone. Comes with the territory. But really, if this is what the Sharks need for motivation, that's part of their problem right there. If the Bruins had said after the series that they knew they had the Wings and that the Wings didn't have the killer instinct or the talent, they'd be right. We lost to them.

“I don’t want to say this series was the easiest, but it was the least physically demanding without a doubt,” said Kings defenseman Drew Doughty. “The other series were more physical and tougher on the body. It was still a good series, but the other ones were tougher.”
