Interesting, i feel bad for ken holland. Hes trying, but looks like all he can land at this point are guys like weiss alfie, cleary etc.. guys that are going coffin shopping, detroits at the top of the list.

Luckily we have a good farm system

Heh, Weiss was considered to be a prime free agent back when he was signed. I guess one season of injury issues deep sixes a player here in Detroit.

Ah, ok. I know who he is now. He was good in "The Trotsky", for those not impressed with his work being "the other guy" in Seth Rogen films.

Mostly agree. Not crazy about Vrbata, though.

He'd be cheap and sign short term is my thinking. And he'd still probably give you 50 pts. Anything too expensive would drop him down my list pretty fast.

Man, word is SJ traded Stuart to Colorado. So much for him being with his family, unless his situation has changed.

I call BS.

Weiss and Alfie wanted to come here last year. So did Dekeyser.

I love Alfie and supported the signing and want him back next year, but he's not a long term solution by any stretch and fits right in line with a lot of the older stars in their later years that come here. It's not bad having those guys now and again, but attracting them says nothing about our ability to attract talent that you can build a team around long term.

Dekeyser was a hometown move.

Weiss stands up to it on some level, but it's not a point I'd be screaming about, because thus far, it's been a bust for us. I hate to say it, because it's pure speculation, but given that he wasn't out of the woods with injuries and what we've gone on to see in the last year, what if other teams simply knew better than to gamble on him?

I think the point being made is true to some extent, though obviously it's not 100% conclusive and there will always be exceptions. Any way you look at it though, we are a much tougher sell to UFAs and players on the trade block with NTCs/NMCs than we were five years ago.

Holland’s quest for "more 20 goal scores” next year isn’t going very well so far.

More than the one he had last year? He should be able to do that almost by pure luck.
