I'm finally starting to calm down a bit. Holland was very active. We can't fault him there. He didn't kick tires...he offered them big contracts. He needs to figure out why Detroit isn't alluring anymore and do something to fix it. If he doesn't then his job will eventually depend upon it.

It isn't like Edmonton didn't have some good veteran players to help their youth along. Ryan Smyth comes to mind.

Good point, but I still believe (hope?) that young players would flourish under the tutelage of Dats and Z more so than under Smyth.

On a side note, did you see the way that guy cried skating around the ice for a bazillion minutes after his last game? I thought I was watching John Boehner.

Smyth is a known crier.

Every other free agent analyzed on NHLN last night was tied to perhaps Detroit being a destination because our roster is weak and in need of upgrade.

I disliked Kenny more and more as the trade deadlines have come and gone through the years. Free agency and the caliber of talent he has been tied

to has been ridiculous, the NTC's associated with most were a joke. Today was just flat out embarrassing. I was excited about the season until seeing

this display of inaction.

Track record speaks louder than his actions today. What we have seen in the last half decade is him settle for limping into the playoffs and never getting past the second round instead of trying to make substantive moves to contend. If I were a FA I wouldn't sign here because it could be that Kenny doesn't make any more moves and I would be stuck on a bubble team instead of being on a team on the rise.

Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 35s

Wings offered Dan Boyle three years at $12.5 million ($5M, $5M and $2.5M) but he took two years, $9 million from Rangers.

OMG!!! I am so glad that this did not happen!

Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 32s

Also, Wings were told as late as this weekend they were on Niskanen's "short list" but informed early today they were out.

I think free agents really under estimate the young forwards we have. It's sad because we will be more competitive than a lot of teams that signed free agents today.

At least Holland tried. He can't help it if a player takes less money elsewhere. There's definitely something rotten in the Wings.

The last year has really been embarrassing, a sensation I'm not used to as a Wings fan since the mid-nineties.

Dumb. No way I'm signing Boyle for a third year.

Let's play a game... which of the signings do you feel WEREN'T overpayments, and you truly wish KH beat?

1) Iginla
2) Richards
3) Ehroff

That's it. The rest of these were significant overpayments and no guarantee to be better than what we have for the price they're at. If you could have guaranteed me the team was able to move Weiss, then I'd say sure sign Stastny for $7.25M AAV... other than that, this wasn't a particularly strong FA class. I like Ouellet to win a spot and produce moreso than Niskanen or any guy not named Ehroff or Boyle -- but not at three years....

Ehrhoff... but he said he was "all in" with Pittsburgh from the get go.

That is his problem. Holland cannot land talent to help his team out and that is the GMs job at the end of the day.
