Well it's Detroit. How many of these guys want to move their families to a city that are in the news right now about the UN having to help people get water?

Apparently 40 baseball players, including top pitchers and hitters, who could contend in LA, NY, or many other nicer areas decide to come to Detroit. So the city can't be all bad.

If Holland isn't at fault for turning this team into a non-destination, who is?

The city leaders bankrupting the place? The national press only commenting on foreclosures, gangs, and crime? The crappy school systems? The age of the Joe? "History" doesn't mean as much to this new generation, they want to be welcomed into a state-of-the-art facility.

There's a lot more to moving your family and getting settled in a new state and city than just the players on the team or the money being offered. Relativity Principle... is the 48th Million as important as the 1st? probably not...

That has nothing to do with it. No players even live in the city.. deal with the usual wings fan free agent day frustration of recent years some other way besides taking shots at the city. It's not all bad.

The festering pit that Detroit is portrayed as in the national media. Yes, there are suburbs, but players, and especially their trophy wives, don't always see that, and they want to live and do things in the city, not the burbs.

Ever been? Ever wonder why there are many multimillionaires in the suburbs of Detroit? It's because no one lives in the damned city, the live in the suburbs which are considered some of the best places to live in the whole country.

Do any of the Wings' players live in Detroit?

Nope, they almost all live in Bloomfield Hills, West Bloomfield, Gross Pointe, and Birmingham, which are all beautiful and have extremely low crime rates. Daniel Alfredsson's family wants to stay living in the area regardless if he retires or not.

It's probably not just one thing. Certainly Holland has made a few mistakes, then there's the league's efforts to bring parity, the departure of Lidstrom, etc. Dynasties dont last forever. Edited by Mckinley25

These players entertained the idea of being a red wing until the last minute so it can't be that bad of a situation. It is troublesome though. I think we're just going to have trade for a franchise d man. Somebody that is fine with the pressure of being the #1 guy. Niskanen and Boyle chose these destinations because they felt they had a better chance to win and they would take a pay cut. Less pressure to be the #1 offensive guy

I just want our kids to prove everyone wrong and show that there is a major upswing of young talent here that can win. That and Mantha turns into the second coming of Gretzky

Could you just post the content instead of a link? Not everyone can access twitter from work.

Like this, please:

Red Wings confused by today's outcome. Offered more to Niskanen, Boyle and Ehrhoff than they signed for (money and term) exploring trades.
