kipwinger 8,522 Report post Posted June 30, 2014 I've heard from a non quotable source, which is (very) close to Holland, apparently niskanen really wants to come here and we are very high on his list. Also we won't get yandle, price is all of nyquist, Tatar, jurco and mantha + first. Holland is probably going to give him 7 years $42 million. Just a heads up. Niskanen that is Nobody asks this much in a trade. Ever. Either your source is pulling your leg or he made this up. Edmonton didn't even ask that much for Gretzky. So, since I have a feeling you're going to get all bent out of shape about my post I'll make some fun of it. I'll donate money to a charity of your choice if either of the following happens. 1. Keith Yandle gets traded to any team for a package consisting of their top four young forwards, all of whom project as top sixers. Nevermind the first round pick, we already know that didn't happen. 2. Matt Niskanen signs with Detroit for 7 years, 6 million per. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
Euro_Twins 4,476 Report post Posted June 30, 2014 Ok. I never said he is getting traded for that. I said that was what the asking price was. Obviously no one would make that trade. And with ehroff in play that drastically changes the niskanen sweepstakes now. I would be surprised to even see us sign him over ehroff. Considering Kenny had already tried to trade for him and now he is a free agent. So I guess you win your game

I'm not criticizing you, I'm criticizing your source. Like I said, I think your leg is being pulled. Also, it wasn't about winning any game. I was trying to make things light hearted so that we didn't have to get in a row about it. That was my way of attacking the idea without attacking the person, not some clever opening gambit in an elaborate scheme to make you look bad. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

They're so screwed cap-wise. Edit: The only way the Pens could even entertain the thought of making Niskanen an offer is if they first traded one Kris(topher) Letang. Ah didn't know that, guess I should start looking more at capgeek - sorry for the advertisement - again. I think the Bruins are really screwed salarywise, they have 1,7 million to sign for 4 key players. How are they going to bring back Iggy now?
Datsyukian-Deke 722 Report post Posted June 30, 2014 Helene St. James said we are less likely to go after Niskanen and more likely to sign Boyle and that Boyle has some interest. I have a feeling Niskanen will end up in Minny but I hope I'm wrong.

Next year they have UFA that would take around 20 mil to resign. They should trade Smith and Boychuk to Detroit foe Kindl and Andersson now.

So, the cap didn't go up as much as many of us would have liked, but honestly... Niskanen for a six-million dollar cap-hit until he's 34 years old. I'll take it. Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted June 30, 2014 Niskanen is going to get a 7 year deal north of 42 million. Are you guys ok with that? I'd be a lot more comfortable with 7 at 35 million. In a different offseason, he'd get no more than that. Not to mention that more Dmen are hitting the market so there's not quite as much supply and demand, even if he is the best RH Dman on the market right now. I'd offer Boyle 2 years at 7.5 mil and wait for Sproul to QB our PP. 1 wings4thecup06 reacted to this

I have a feeling Niskanen will end up in Minny but I hope I'm wrong. She's a mouthpiece for the front office, so unfortunately this will probably be the case. I'm fine with Boyle, but would much prefer Ehrhoff or Niskanen even if it means overpayment. Edited June 30, 2014 by GoWings1905

An aging vet who's looking for a good payday on a short-term deal, this does unfortunately feel like the kind of thing Holland prefers. I don't know a ton about him but would rather have Gilbert than Boyle. 2 e_prime and krsmith17 reacted to this

Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted June 30, 2014 I seriously feel like Detroit, Minny and Tampa are all going hard after Niskanen, Boyle and Gilbert. The "winner" is going to get Niskanen, and the other two teams will get Boyle and Gilbert. Kind of glad Ehrhoff got thrown into the mix - could make things interesting. 1 e_prime reacted to this
