George Malik ‏@georgemalik 21m

.@Mjurgh I call July 1st the "great disappointment" because even if KH signed everybody, Wings fans would still be upset.

Of course I'm disappointed when the Wings don't get the exact players I want. I'm convinced of my own good judgement in these matters lol. But I'm fully capable of settling for others, provided they're not 92 years old and clearly declining.

As for Malik...I loathe the guy. He's the absolute definition of a company man. I might put more stock in what he had to say if I hadn't spent the last 5 years reading him agree with every misstep Holland made, and then make excuses afterward as if Holland were a victim of fate and not a man who is clearly petrified by uncertainty.

That's just when Captain Cut-n-Paste copies a St. Lame article. 80% of a Malik post is him copying a legit reporter.

She's definitely a hack, there's not doubt about that.

However, I think Malik's most annoying habit is how he pretends to have some special rapport with the Red Wings organization, and then gets all huffy puffy when people call him out for being a dude sitting at a computer. He acts like he's a personal guest of the Holland family on all the high holidays.

Wasn't Malik's tweet... but a Malik follower. Malik is an apologist through and through. He's fan that wants to be a "reporter" but ultimately is a re-poster/re-tweeter. I go there for the facts and summaries, not for his opinion.

He finds no fault in Cleary. That's enough for me to know that he can't be trusted.

@NicholsOnHockey: Russo: As of late Monday, didn't look like #mnwild planned to enter the fray on Matt Niskanen. Hasn't inquired on Christian Ehrhoff today.

@NicholsOnHockey: Russo: #mnwild has shown the most interest in Thomas Vanek and Jarome Iginla.

Malik's an excellent place to go if you want all the sports writers articles laid out before you. That's what he does, and he's useful if only for that. But his insights into the game are about as useful as a football bat.

I've always liked Volchenkov and his willingness to get his hands dirty. i watched him quite a bit in New Jersey and he was always killing important penalties and blocking shots. He'd be on the ice a lot at the end of games. He'd be a serviceable pro. Not a star but one of those cogs in the wheel that blocks shots and just plays defense.

Red Wings aggressively pursuing Matt Niskanen, Dan Boyle in free agency; out on Christian Ehrhoff - Khan.

Out on the closest thing to a sure thing, in on the old man and the biggest question mark.

Exactly. Even if you give Ehrhoff five years, he would still be younger at the end than Dan Boyle is now. But he shoots right handed, so apparently that trumps pursuing a far superior player overall.

I have to agree this is baffling. Willing to give 7 years to Niskanen but can't do 5 on a proven producer. Our scouts must be high on this kid and not so much on Ehrhoff. We could have had him a number of times

There's no way we get Niskanen. Then Dan Boyle will be our highest paid player. What a joke

I think a UFA day of Niskanen and Boyle would be a very good day for us. I would be happy with those two. I know the risk in Boyle's ager and Niskanen's one year wonder, but it sure beats sticking with what we have and not giving it a try. I would admire Holland's balls (what?) if he is able to land both. Plus that means Quincey is definitely gone and more than likely Kindl is also!

I would love to see LeBron survive a Kronwalling...if he had to be carried off the court for a twisted ankle, Hey Detroit old-timers, remember 1988 NBA finals Detroit vs. LA? Isiah played and scored a record 25 points in one quarter on a severely sprained ankle with hairline fractures... Poor LeBron will never know what it means to have heart...

anyhow, back to a real man's sport...it is know July 1st! LETS DO THIS!!!

That's a little too R-rated for me! Joking aside, this whole "Holland has no balls" appeal to emotions, attacking his masculinity thing, is getting old. Plenty of GM's make big gutsy moves, only to have it majorly bite them in the rear. Milbury, Holmgren, Snow etc. He plays a conservative close to the vest style. If he really does lack guts, he makes up for it in brains.
