The Wings will look to re-sign defenseman Kyle Quincey

Per the Red Wings official website

...and the rest of the sentence: ",but the 28-year-old will most likely receive a bigger offer on the open market than Detroit is willing to spend."

Of course you would cherry pick that quote.

Any Wings fan that knows what’s up knows that there is about a 5% chance that they actually want Quincey back. This quote is just the product of a PR spin. The Wings official site is not going to come out and say “the Wings have no interest in bringing back Quincey because he sucks”.

Yes, but the rest of the sentence still doesn't change the overall meaning: That given the chance they would re-sign him. That shows you just how disconnected the Wings' front office is from the real world.

Yeah and maybe that chance is only if he signs at a significant paycut... but what do I know I live in la la land with Holland and the care bears.

EDIT: But I agree with RZ. This screams PR. "Oh we'd love to re-sign him... but we don't have the money! Sorry Q!" It's the same thing I tell the bums on Woodward

No matter how little money KFQ takes he is still not worth the spot he would take up on the roster. This is a perfect example of the team getting better by subtraction.

Seriously the advance stats say he was a negative player for the Wings last season:

He's not coming back. Ok? We'll never know if it's PR spin or not. You have ur Red Wings live in fantasy land opinion, I have a different one, but at the end of the day the loser is gone so lets just be happy about it.

On a two way contract I'd take him!

I would not take him on a two way contract

I would not take him with a missing contact

I would not take him with Megan Fox

I would not take him with two pet rocks

I would not take him Shaman I am

I would not take that defensive sham.

Well considering the fact that his market value is well above a 2-way contract, I'd take him on one. If not just for selling. Sorry, that's the business man in me. I can't rhyme like Pac or Suess

Samuelson is *worth* more than league minimum on a 2-way contract. But there is a opportunity cost lost by carrying that player and cap hit, so even if he does add value to the team, there is also a lose of value just by virtue of having him and not being able to have the alternative. In KFQ's cause he is taking up cap space/roster space/veteran in AHL space that other players are better suited for.

Just let it die man, he's gone. This is a pointless argument. I'm sorry I continued it. Comparing Sammy to Q is dumb too and beside the point.

I know it's been mentioned, but it's worth mentioning again: supposedly we're all in on Niskanen/Boyle, with a big trade being preferable to Stralman, Gilbert, et al.

I'm really excited cautiously optimistic expecting Sami Salo and Devin Setoguchi.

It just frustrates me how willing the Wings are to stay with the status quo and re-sign the same players when we aren't winning. I know it's a joke but I really am feeling like Kenny is phoning it in. I know, I know, he is kicking tires, but when nothing creative happens, and they just re-sign players that didn't work the first time, it makes me shake my head.

We are on the short lists for Boyle, Niskanen, and Iginla....3 of the top free agents. I would hardly say Holland is "phoning it in".

Agreed.

If Holland gets outbid by other GM's - is he then likely gonna sign guys like Gilbert, or Stralman, or will he goes with what he knows, and re-signs Quincey?

My impression is that Kenny understands the situation. We need a big name, and he's willing to go balls out for one, even if that means a trade. Stralman, Gilbert, et al. = Quincey II in his book, and he doesn't really want Quincey II. He wants a real difference-maker. And even if he doesn't, I've gotta think Babcock does.

I disagree on Stralman. Unlike Quincey he can actually play defense.

I think Dabura is hitting it on the head. KH did well in the last offseason but it was derailed due to injury, and he is still smarting from Suter. I think he wants to make a splash again. Will it make a difference in retaining Babs if he does? Will it rejuvenate Pavs and Z?

I disagree he did well, as he built a team that is softer than a basket of puppies and more injury prone than octogenarian swing dancing contest.
